In my office, I am known for always wearing a tie, even at 1 am at night. Most people remove their ties about 6 or 7 pm (unless there is a meeting), and sleeves tend to roll up.
I personally think its unprofessional to remove your tie at work no matter how late.
So gents, do you ever remove your tie at work and if so at what time.
My sleeves are perpetually rolled up. If I am wearing a tie that day, due to a Board meeting or a meeting with an outside guest, I typically loosen the knot and unbutton the top button after the formal meetings are over, but never take the tie off…
…I let go of trying to not look slightly rumpled years ago. It suits my eccentric-professor persona anyway
I generally go with if I am wearing a tie, I leave the tie on until I change out of my suit at night. A lot of guys wear a suit with no tie these days.
I wear a tie for meetings with people several levels above mine in the organization. Fortunately, such meetings are a rarity in my life. Other than that, I don’t wear a tie to work.
When I wear a tie, which doesn’t happen as often as I’d like, I usually leave it on until my wife tells me “the day’s over- you can take your tie off now”. 'Cuz I forget.
I no longer wear ties to work on any regular basis. I used to be the only one, but now I’m seeing others do the same. It’s gotten easier since I got my new boss… who doesn’t wear a tie.
Only time I wear a tie is when I’m going to court…and it generally comes off after the hearing is finished. Otherwise I’m usually working in jeans and a collared shirt.
My tie comes off when I get in my car, if not in the parking lot on the way to my car. There are, coincidentally, several ties in my car that I forgot to bring in when I got home.
I’ll try that in the office parking lot next time. Never too soon to get comfortable!
When I wore a tie to work, I’d keep it on until I left the office, at least. During the summer, I’d at least loosen my collar (and the tie) during the walk to the train. I’d then usually take the tie off entirely once I got on the train.
That said, I haven’t worn a tie to work on a regular basis since 1995. The place where I worked went to full-time business casual at that point; my two subsequent jobs have both, also, been business-casual (at the most). At the ad agency where I work now, I usually wear a polo shirt, jeans, and running shoes – if I have a client meeting, I’ll dress up (anywhere from Dockers to a suit and tie, depending on the client and the nature of the meeting).
I wear a tie to interviews and on the first day of work. After that, I dress according to the corporate environment. I hate wearing a tie. Why people think that ties are required in this day and age is beyond me.
I go to work without a tie, and usually put it on about 30 or 40 minutes into the day, mostly because I’m just at my desk catching up on emails and reading stuff, not meeting with anyone.
I put it on and go about my day. If it is slow and I have no more meetings that day, either with my big boss or those outside my organization, sometimes I will take it off. If I am working late, I usually don’t think to take it off.
To me, wearing a tie isn’t a really big deal. I don’t feel like it is a noose around my neck: I’m less comfortable with a fully buttoned shirt than I am with a tie.
Ties are allowed to get looser and looser as your flight crew starts to become incapacitated. When they’re all down, and you only have passengers with old flight experience left, then it’s also time to start drinking.
I would just loosen it. It makes no sense to remove it, when loosening it is just as comfortable. That is of course you eat something and might spill on it, while you’re working
