You’d have to try higher end options to know what I am talking about. Just because it’s long lasting doesn’t mean it’s good.
+1
I got these a little while ago as well. They’re pretty good for running if anyone wants to do something crazy like that.
At last, a man who takes his user name seriously.
Actually, I have tried a number of different brands of underwear and nothing stood out as especially good such that I would continue to seek them out over any other, except for the ones I talked about. Also, if you can’t describe what makes a “higher end” pair of underwear significantly better than something that feels comfortable (you left out that part) and wears well, why should we pay any attention to your opinion? Use your words, my friend, use your words.
The number one thing is fit. The use of better quality material adjusts to your body.
If you are active, some fabrics are better at odor control. For more sedentary guys, nicer cottons are softer and more comfortable.
Also, design and aesthetics matter to some people. You don’t get that with a 3-pack from Wal-Mart.
The ones I’m wearing now are Hanes brand. But I was looking for replacements a few months ago and couldn’t find them easily available in white. Target has them in various colors (blue, black, etc) and so I bought Calvin Klein brand for the next set. What happened to white underwear?
This was my biggest problem with moving from tighty whiteys to boxer briefs: the ones I wanted weren’t available in white. Until then, my laundry divided fairly nicely into roughly equal quantities of white (undershirts, briefs, and the occasional handkerchief) and everything else. So I could do two loads, colors separated from whites, and wash the whites in hot water.
First world problem. And I’m married now, too, so the laundry isn’t as simple a matter anymore.
As for premium underwear, although I could afford a to try out a pair of $25 briefs, I still can’t imagine that style, material, or fit could possibly be better enough than the ones I have now to justify the expense. I’ve never in my life said, “These underpants are just not stylish enough, or don’t fit well enough, or are scratchy.”
However, suppose I did like the expensive ones better? Then I’d have to spend hundreds of dollars more a year on underwear. That in turn might lead me to preferring Dom Perignon over André champagne, wagyu beef over Big Macs, and Cohibas over Swisher Sweets. I might have to become a hedge fund manager to support all these expensive habits, and move into a McMansion. And – horror of horrors – I might even become a Republican! Then my wife would divorce me, and I’d end up in a loveless marriage with a supermodel who would murder me so she could run off with my money and the pool boy.
No! Where ignorance is bliss…
One brand that is pretty affordable that I like is Ralph Lauren. I like briefs best. A three-pack costs between $20 and $25.
Hold on a second. Before you were married, you separated your laundry into colors???

All of my boxer briefs are black or dark grey. I throw them, socks, and my plain T-shirts all together in the wash. Never had any issues.
I got some, I think they’re Nautica brand from Costco. Now I know to avoid anything that has “modal” in the textile list. Can’t recommend, itchy!
That you’d have to go back to tighty-whiteys.
When you put them on, you look exactly like the model in the picture.
Now how much would you pay?
Aye. Specifically, Ex-Officio Give-N-Go boxer briefs; they totally fucking rock.
Third Ex Officio, though I’ve only worn the briefs.
More importantly, how much would my wife pay?
The catch? When you take them off, you revert.
They have a fly in front. I’ll just leave them on until we’re…ahem…finished.
Still outside the Cloth of Influence.
If you’re laundry is about evenly divided know and some new underwear is going to unbalance the load, I’d question how many pairs you plan to buy and/or how much you’re jamming into the washing machine.
As I suggested earlier, try a few pairs and see what you think. You don’t have to run out and buy 30 all at once.
Also, once you’ve washing something more than a few times it’s not going to run anymore, you can safely wash it with your whites be okay.
Yeah, some of them do get a bit pricey, but if you really want to try some, don’t get those ones. FTR, the Muryobaos I mentioned are about $8 each, the Adidas are $12, the Jinshis are $8 for one and $13 for a different one that I have. The UA boxerjocks are $15. The Champions are $12.
The only ones that get in the the $20 range are the two I mentioned above that I didn’t like, the Exofficio and Saxx. It may be the style or fabric that I have, but for now it turned be off of the brand.
Yes, they’re literally 5x the price of Hanes/FotL at 5 for $18, but I like them more. I’ve tried those brands and (this is directed at Roderick) I’m not going to defend myself to anyone rolling their eyes, I hate that smiley. All I’ll say is that I like them more. I’m not going to sit here and give reasons (read: opinions) for people to pick apart.
My only suggestion, as I stated earlier, is to pick up a pair or two of ‘premium’ a premium brand and see if they work for you. If not, you’re out $15-$50. If you like them, you’re in for much better underwear than stuff that costs three dollars. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that IME these do generally fit considerably tighter so that has to be something you like/what. I’d strongly suggest reading reviews, it usually helps in buying the correct size.
