Had Bush ever travelled before being president?

I’m just curious if George Bush had ever been out of the country before he was president, and I’m not being sarcastic. I realize there is very little chance that, having a father who was president, he hadn’t done any travelling.

I don’t even know if there’s a way of knowing such things, but if there is I’d like to know. Just wondering.

Have a good one.

He was not a big traveler, but he supposedly visited these countries:

Bermuda, Canada, China, Egypt, England, France, Gambia, Israel, Italy, Mexico, and
Scotland.

I like how the UK is mentioned twice.

He spent a fair amount of time in China in the 1970’s when his father was the ambassador to China.

What would qualify to you as a big traveler then?

Well, I guess I’m showing my own bias. I’ve been to something like 30 plus countires, and the friends I have that I consider big travelers have been to 40 plus. Upon reflection, I realize that visiting ten countries would, by most Americans’ standards, be considered an experienced traveler.

I would agree. I’d say anything in the 20+ range to be “big traveller” territory. Ten isn’t bad. It’s on the cusp of “well-travelled.” Of course, extensive travel through the country itself, as opposed to just staying in the Four Seasons in every capital, can make up for sheer numbers. As can travel throughout the United States.

Of course, no U.S. President visited a foreign country while in office until 1906 when Theodore Roosevelt visited Panama.

George Washington left the United States once.
