Seriously, that’s quite the impossible yoga pose. We didn’t get a good view of the goods at all. The doctor says that she’s leaning toward girl, but mainly due to one tiny view where she didn’t see anything protruding, and the fact that most boys let it all hang out. But dang, how anticlimactic!
That having been said, we did get a fabulous picture of the baby sucking his or her thumb, so I guess that’s good!
My son was VERY cooperative. He had his legs over his head for my 20 wk u/s. The tech shot him from his bottom up and I saw his penis sticking straight up before the she(tech) even asked if we wanted to know. When she did ask I said, well I can see it is a boy pretty clearly!
He is almost 5 now and still loves showing off his parts.
I’ve always heard that a “girl” prediction based on an ultrasound is more likely to be inaccurate for the very reason you noted – the fact that you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Future ultrasounds might find the little bugger in a more revealing pose. As a person of “advanced maternal age,” I had amnio. No guessing game there.
Nonetheless…congrats! Best wishes for you and the baby. And don’t be like me – thinking up names on the way to the hospital!
They told my cousin that she would have a girl. She didn’t. While she was recovering in the hospital, her husband was at home painting the pink walls blue. Some clothes couldn’t be returned, so the baby boy wore a few pink outfits.
I had the same thing happen with my second. I had three ultrasounds done and all three times they could not tell. They told me it was a girl because they could not see anything and something with the heart rate.
It was a girl and she was stubborn as she decided she was coming into this world feet first.
Aren’t ultrasounds the coolest thing? I think we had dopey, astonished grins on our faces the entire time.
For my first one, it was before I could feel the baby moving, so it was fun to watch him swimming around but it felt somewhat detached. The second ultrasound was a month later, and it was really fun to watch him move on the screen and feel the same movement from the inside! “Hey! I felt that! No punching!”
Congrats on a healthy baby…girl? Sending lotsa stickies too (never hurts!)
How far along are you? I’m 16 weeks today and my doctor is pretty insistent on as few u/s as possible. We already had one to make sure all was okay/determine age etc; however, they don’t do that ‘big’ one until 20 weeks if everything is normal. Looks like sometime next month we’ll find out as my next appt is 10/6, and we’ll schedule the u/s sometime after that. It would have been cool to find out on our wedding anniversary, but a doc appt is good too.
Did you have any guesses going in? With our first I thought it was going to be a boy, then we just felt ‘girl.’ Turns out, she was a girl. It was tough getting a good shot because she had her hands between her legs! :dubious:
So we wait…to find out if it’s a hotdog or a hamburger!
I think you have to be at least 24 weeks along. We had one at about 28 weeks and it was super. Our boy was very obliging - legs splayed, wee willie front and center.
Don’t bet on the predictive powers of ultrasound. My ex was convinced it was a girl based on the inconclusive ultrasound, and that “girl” is now a 6’4" 17 year old with a scraggly beard.
