Haggle - a game of trading and secrets

Can we do this? How does it work? Do you mean points subracted from our portfolio and added to yours?

Assuming you mean points that are subtracted from our portfolio at the end of the game and added to yours:

I will buy all rule slips you will sell. If I need to pick one, I will buy rule 5.

How do we need to break this up into transactions? I guess for the first one I will buy a B.

I will buy an A. I will buy more if you let me.

20 points for your V

Bah, wrong column. I see you don’t have rule 5. I will buy rule 20.

I will purchase Slip #14 for two points.

I’ll take the N Card for five points.

I’ll take the E Card for four points.

Accepted

Sachertorte, I offer 25 points in exchange for your V card

I’ll go 30.

I accept Hal #11B

Sachertorte, I offer 31 points in exchange for your V card

sachertorte, too bad you’re leaving the game. I’m not sure what exactly prompted it, but sorry feelings got hurt!

That said, I’ll take a T for five points and an O for four points.

Plus, I’ll go to 35 points for the V

I see how this is going. 40! for the V. Do we hear a 41?

40 for the V? Are you people insane?! Haven’t you seen Secret Rule 21? Or was I the only one that got that one?

Shit, I’ve said too much.

Anyways - I’m back from the long weekend and gamely attempting to wade through and figure out what the hell is going on. I will attempt to answer any pending (and un-withdrawn) offers.

I’m not paying nothin’ for no stinkin’ V!

My currently outstanding offers:

Priceguy offer #9: I offer percypercy two F cards and a look at rule 7 for an I card and a U card.

Priceguy offer #10: I offer billyb0b his choice of an F card, a P card or an N card for a U card.

Get in the game!

Okay, let’s see.

This ‘points’ thing is an interesting development, and I told myself before play begins that I wouldn’t squelch anybody who came up with interesting trade ideas. But I have a few concerns with this.

One, my current tracking system isn’t set up to work with this.
Two, none of you have points to trade yet. However, I don’t see that there’s any problem with trading ‘point IOUs’
Like all IOUs, there is some risk of default. If, when a players portfolio of letter cards is scored, he or she does not have enough points to pay back all IOUs, they will be evaluated in the order that they were contracted.

So, here’s the update with all non-point trades from last night entered in. I’ll try to get the IOUs sorted out before I head off to work

By the way, according to my interpretation of sachertorte’s clearance, you don’t need to only take a given sale just once.

Adding an offer:

Priceguy offer #9: I offer percypercy two F cards and a look at rule 7 for an I card and a U card.

Priceguy offer #10: I offer billyb0b his choice of an F card, a P card or an N card for a U card.

Priceguy offer #11: I offer Uncommon Sense his choice of an F card, a P card or an N card for an I card.

I’m willing to throw in rules exchanges, so make counteroffers.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying we can buy more from sachertorte, even if we have already had our one transaction per player?

Whoops :smack:

However, there is no clearly marked transaction limit for rules, just cards.

Thanks. I was worried that you might not like my liquidation sale. I went into this game thinking it would be fun to shake things up with different strategies, but everyone else seems to prefer the straightforward style.
The idea of agreeing to keep secrets didn’t seem to fly so well (what? no one wants to burn their rule slips?), and no one seems to agree with me that a secret is more valuable than information. I won’t agree with the assertion that I’m silly for thinking this, but people are entiled to their own views.

So I figured that rather than try and figure out the worth of each letter, I’d just sell them. I was considering auctioning off everything and letting the free market determine price for me, but I don’t have the patience for that. I think I’d end up with an impressive score if I had. I just hope I didn’t set the values too low. (Not because I’m trying to win, but becuase I don’t want to whack out the game balance; hence the limit on sales per customer). At least I had the foresight to auction the rare and apparently valuable ‘V’.

I wonder what other treasures have been purchased at low low prices at crazy sachertorte’s liquidation sale!

Current high bid on the ‘V’ is 40 points from nesta. I will probably conclude the auction Thursday morning (10AM EDT - ish). Too bad I can’t have e-bay handle it for me.

Sachertorte, who made the insinuation that you were were “stupid”?
That’s clearly not the case!

Hal Offer #11D, for Uncommon Sense: A look at Rule Cards #10, #14 and #17 in exchange for a look at Rule Cards #5, #11 and #15.

Counter offer of Hal # 11D; Toss me one of your unwanted letters and we’ll call it a deal.
Priceguy offer #11: I offer Uncommon Sense his choice of an F card, a P card or an N card for an I card.
That’s my only vowel so I’m going to have to decline at this point, you may leave the offer on the table however. I just wanted to let you know I saw it.
