Haggle: The Dragon's hoard [closed]

Alright, trading is closed.

The band of adventurers approach the town and must make their choices what to carry up to the banker’s cottage for his evaluation and what, if anything, to leave behind because it might hurt their case. Note that rules might state that some items still have a negative effect even if they are dropped at this point.

Also, there is at least one rule that states for a bonus value to apply, you must choose to specify something other than taking or leaving treasure items. This should be clear from reading the rule in question.

phi/teach, in accordance with the current state of the partnership I will accept the first PM from either of you with a disposition of your shared hoard as binding. Your score will be split fifty fifty after the banker has had his say. You may confer here in the thread before making your final decisions in PM.

Good luck to all!

Chrisk can we get the final offical item division?

This should be the same as the update in 809, but okay

OK I’m clueless here. Just take everything I have into account for my portfolio. For coin based bonuses use my Electrum no’s if that makes any sense. Totally playing in the dark here. I guess Meeko wins?

Sorry I missed the other one. Thanks for indulging me.

Oops, sorry there Mhaye. I was out of the house at that point for the ruby/wand trade.

Hello everyone…sorry I vanished, I was kinda preoccupied in the Mafia thread, and as far as I could tell I was pretty much out of here anyway. I will turn in my whole stash and hope for the best.

When this is all said and done, I am open to discussion on strategies, and what not. If anyone else is or would be.

… That, and I miss the game already.

No trouble. RL happens.

Chrisk
I’m going to hand in all my stuff, including scrolls 6 and 8.

Alright, here’s the submission standings.

heard from:
Antinor01
Meeko
sinjin
Thing Fish
MHaye

waiting on:
Oredigger77
phi/Teach
Santo Rugger

I hand in all of my stuff including rule 3 as an item of value

Take all my stuff, I’m not sure if anything’s of negative value. Doh!

I would be! You have no idea how sad I was that I was on vacation for most of the game.

It was fun watching you all play though.

Alright, and as the final minutes tick away, we wait to see if phi2dao or ArizonaTeach return from their angry huff.

After making your arrangements, you enter the town, find the banker’s shack, and with a bit of difficulty explain the contest to him. The banker, a colorful character named Zotti, immediately takes charge of the situation.

“Alright, first off, let’s get all of these scrolls sorted out so that there can be no confusion about what rules I’m to be scoring you on,” Zotti decides. After a bit of fuss, one scroll of each number is procured or borrowed and they are all laid out on the banker’s counter so that the whole party can read each one. They read as follows:

  1. A common gem is worth a base value of two silver pieces.

  2. By default, a silver piece is worth two copper pieces.

  3. Saying hi to an opal is worth nothing.

  4. A precious gem is worth a base value of three platinum pieces.

  5. An electrum piece is worth one and a half silver pieces.

  6. Gems are worth a color-based bonus value in copper according to their color: black 0, yellow 1, green 2, red 3, blue 4, white 5

  7. A rare gem is worth a base value of three gold pieces

  8. Ring or earring settings are valued as one coin each.

  9. All asset values will be converted to ‘base copper pieces’ for the final reckoning.

  10. Collecting more than 30 copper pieces will make all your copper (including jewelry) as valuable as silver.

  11. Scrolls number 3, 6, 8, and 9 are valuable in themselves and worth 3 silver pieces each. You must specify that you are handing scrolls in as valuables to earn this bonus.

  12. All wands will reduce the quality of unset gems you are holding by one level, if possible.

  13. Necklace settings are valued as two coins, Bracelet settings are valued as three coins.

  14. To start with, a gold piece is worth two silver pieces.

  15. A black wand will double the number of up to 4 platinum and gold pieces, orienting on platinum first.

  16. A piece of jewelry is based on adding the value of its gem with the worth of a certain number of coins of the metal type it’s made of, the number depending on the jewelry type. (Note that jewelry does not qualify for coin-based bonuses.)

  17. A gray wand will turn anything you hold made out of silver into electrum.

  18. A platinum piece is worth two gold pieces.

  19. Carrying more than 60 items will make you drop your most valuable stuff to fit under this limit, including all your jewels and gems

  20. Combining any three potions together will negate any curse effects and turn any gold held by your enemies into (worthless) lead.

  21. All potions are cursed, and will reduce your hoard to one-half of its value rounded down.

  22. The master index of gem color and value level is found at: http://home.cogeco.ca/~ckenworthy1/phenakite.gif
“Well, now, I suppose that you can sit and chew on that while I get started with this job, now. All of the information is true enough, as far as I know.”

Well I managed to guess 16 and got lucky with my silver fetish that 20 didn’t affect me. But I guess some of my creative telling of the rules have come to light.

“Okay,” Zotti calls. “Santo Rugger is up first.”

“Your hoard was fairly easy to evaluate. You had sixteen copper pieces, and nine electrum pieces, each of which are worth three coppers, so the whole handful of electrum is worth 27. Of your three gems, the Lapis is only worth 16, while the Sapphire will get you 28 and the Diamond 29. All in all that adds up to 116 copper pieces worth, but you weren’t warned of the potion’s curse, and your white potion reduces the overall value to fifty-eight.”

MHaye, your situation was rather more complicated. To start with, you had five silver pieces, (worth 10 BCP,) and three platinum pieces, for abother 24. Seven gold pieces might have earned you twenty-eight, but these gold coins seem to have turned to lead, which makes them worthless.”

“Then we need to consider the effcts of your black wand. It seems to have duplicated the three platinum pieces, (so that’s another twenty-four,) and one of the lead pieces, (still worthless.) But the backlash has affected a lot of your gems - the obsidian is too common to be affected by wand backlash, getting you 4 copper pieces, but the peridot only gets you 6 now and the topaz only 5.”

“Let’s see, what’s left now? This charming necklace will get you six for the electrum and nine for the backlash-darkened zircon, a total of fifteen. You were smart enough to make sure to bring in your two collectible scrolls, which are worth six copper pieces each. If my figuring is correct, that makes a round hundred.”

If I’m calculating right, my score is 126.5. (subtracting my gold pieces per rule 20)

Why did the zircon get affected I thought the wand only affected unset gems?

“Wait a second,” MHaye puts in. “Wand backlash only affects unset gems. My zircon was protected from the backlash effect, so it should get eight coppers more, My score stands at 108.”

“Oh, my, yes, that’s right. So sorry. And hello there Thing Fish,” Zotti continues. “You have twenty-one copper pieces, sixteen silver pieces which are worth two coppers each for a value of 32, a ring which is worth 1 for its copper value, and 29 for its diamond. This earring seems to be made out of worthless lead, but the emerald will get you 26. That makes nine and a hundred.”

(Yeah, I was already recalculating for that, as you can see Oredigger)
