So tell me, what is it that you do to your hair to get ready for the day? Wake up and run your fingers through it? Spend hours picking and placing and spraying every single strand?
I blow dry mine straight, and curl the ends. On bad hair days I take gel and run it through my hair, and that always seems to fix it. When bored, I throw it into a sloppy ponytail.
During my morning shower, I use shampoo and conditioner. Afterwards, I brush it to remove any tangles. Then, I comb it once or twice before pulling it back into as tight a ponytail as I can create.
I shower at night so I wake up with my hair up in a ponytail, which keeps the curls in more than sleeping with it down would. All I do is shake it out, comb it, and throw on a very light gel to keep down frizzies before throwing in a couple clips or a scrunchie or headband and finishing up with a little hairspray (probably unnecessary, but a habit-- I can make one bottle last for over a year, I use so little).
Most days, I shampoo and condition leaving some conditioner in to tame fly aways. I flip my hair forward and finger comb through with my head upside down. No comb or brush. I flip my hair back and finger comb the hair back off my face and I’m set to go. Unless I’m going to be real active, in which case there is no subsitute for a pony tail. If I have to go to a meeting an look professional I wear it up in a loose knot, I really do just tie a knot and tuck the end under and it holds. For those dressy occasions I dry it straight, curl the ends, pull it back in a pony tail and then tuck the pony tail around on itself. It’s a soft classic look I think looks better than all the down when I am dressed up.
I have the worst hair ever. I shower at night and use just shampoo because conditioner makes my hair poofy and more curly. Then I use a blow dryer, straightening balm and a paddle brush to make it less curly (its supposed to be straight but it never is). Then I use a little styling creme to get rid of the fly aways. God, I hate my hair…

Shampoo, conditioner, towel wrapped around head, comb, wait for it to airdry a little, turn head upside down and brush, flip head rightside up and brush again, put a part in, add some mousse if I’m having a problem-hair day, give up and put it in two braids if I’m having a REALLY problem-hair day, and I’m spent.
What BlackKnight said. Most days I don’t really care what it looks like, as long as it stays out of the way. If I’m going out somewhere, I usually brush it out a little more thoroughly, and sometimes leave it loose.
Wash it, dry it with a towel, lament that I’m losing it. Occasionally I’ll throw some goop in to give it that “I’m all messy-haired 'cos I’ve had sex” look.
Wash & condition at night. Air dry while sleeping. Brush thoroughly. No gels or sprays. Sometimes I wear it down but it’s gotten so long these last 6 months I’ve mostly been putting it into braids and twists. One of these weeks I’m going to get around to lopping off half of it for charity, which will leave it long but in a more managable length.
Shampoo on the days I have to go to work. Brush. Ponytail.
I had a friend in high school who had incredibly gorgeous hair. When asked what her routine was, she replied. “wash it once a week on saturday. The rest of the week, if it gets wet in the shower, fine, otherwise I just brush and go.” Side note - she was Lebanese, and thought that the attention that Americans paid to their hair was ‘ridiculous, bordering on psychotic.’
Wash, lather, rinse - warm water.
(Repeat if feeling particularly icky.)
Condition, wait, rinse - cold water.
Comb out snarlies.
Put hair in ponytail holder.
Car window down, sun roof open (to air dry on the way to work).
No gels, mousse, sprays, leave-in conditioners at all. Makes my scalp itch no matter what the labels say, knowing that stuff is there. Yick.
I keep a comb and brush in the shower, the bathroom vanity, the bedroom, each of the cars, my overnight bag, the bathroom at work and my desk. The ashtray is stuffed with hair elastics, as is my top drawer at work. I have a collection of scrunchies and barrettes, but mostly use the elastics.
My hair is short, straight, fine, no muss, no fuss. I shower in the morning, towel out the excess water, comb, scrunch it a little in an attempt to simulate body, comb it with my fingers during the day. I prefer the low maintenance approach - life’s too short to spend it fussing with my hair.
Shampoo and condition a couple of times a week, dry the top, let the rest air dry, brush it when I am going out into public, up in a pony tail while cooking. On really special occasions I drag out the curlers.
If I knew that it would grow back within 10 minutes or so, I would shave my head, just to see what it looks like. But, as it now past waist length, I doubt that would happen.
Drag a brush through it at high speed & run out of the door (I usually wash my hair about twice a week as it is long & takes ages to dry - showers tend to ruin that though).
Most days I just stumble to work with my hair in yesterday’s braid. When I need a distraction from the sorry state of my research, I finger-comb it and braid it or put it up in a bun with a pencil stuck through it.
I usually shower at the gym and braid my hair after.
I usually only wash it every other day cause it gets too dry if I wash it every day.
Wash, let air dry. If it’s still wet before I go to work, I’ll blow dry it a little and either pull it back into a ponytail or two braids. If I’m feeling particularly ambitious or if I washed it the night before, I’ll pull the sides into two ponytails (small ones) a la Chrissy Snow (Three’s Company) and curl the ends.
Usually I wash it at night after I run and pull it back in a fabric ponytail holder at night so I don’t sleep on it. The tie actually gives it a little curl (since I don’t pull my hair through on the second loop) and body and generallly looks pretty good.
This is as long as I’ve ever had it and I love it.
I’m minimalist. My hair is short enough, and so d*mn curly, that I frequently don’t even bother combing it. I wash it, give my head a good shake to get everything more-or-less in place, and forget about it.
Man, I am so high maintenence! Sheesh, I had no idea I was spending too much time doing my hair! I wash it in the shower every morning before work, brush, gel, blow dry, moulding mud, hairspray. Shit. I need to re-evaluate this.
Actually, this is why I’m growing it back out. The shorter I’ve had it, the more goes into it.
