Hair Removal Products

Okay, has anyone tried any of those wax substitute products - you know, the sugar-based things? I got up too early on Sunday and wound up watching the tail end of an infomercial for a product called “Nad’s” (snigger - I keep thinking, “'nads”) - it is supposedly a sugar-based wax substitute that you don’t even have to heat. I am intrigued against my will.

So, has anyone used this? Other products you would recommend?

A razor works every time.
And what ever happened to Nair? I remember from back in the 70’s the commercial they had(we wear short shorts). I looked like a cream that you just wiped on & away you go. Did it not work as advertised?

Nair is still around. It does not work as well as advertised and has a nassssty smell (no matter how much they try to cover it.) You didn’t just wipe it on and off. You ahd to leave it on for a while and wait while it dissolved your hair. I, personally, would not want anything on my skin that dissolved hair. Nair is strong stuff!

I’d have to check the brand name, but when I have time, I use a Nair-type cream on my legs. The advantage is that because it disolves the base of the hair along with the hair, it lasts longer than shaving. And it inhibits growth after a while, too. But it basically involves slathering the crap on, leaving it there for 4 minutes, rinsing it off, and washing my legs with shower gel to get rid of the smell.

Doesn’t irritate the skin, closer than shaving, and it lasts longer.

Yup – I use the sugar-based hair removal things all the time. Sally Hansen makes one that comes in a big jar (although between the small “spatula” and paper strips, it’s all packaged in a box). You should be able to find it at your local pharmacy or mega-mart.

I usually let the jar sit in some hot water to warm it up a bit. Be careful if you heat it in the microwave; it can get scorchingly hot!

Works really well on my legs.

I use a product called “Kalo”. You wax the area, then apply the cream 3 times. When you wake up the next day, apply it 3 times again. After about 4-6 times a majority of the hair doesn’t grow back. Keep it up and eventually it’s all gone. If you use it on an area you shave, it makes the hair come in finer and grow slower. It is odorless, too.

I was thinking of ordering that stuff. [nad’s] I just need to have a way to deal with leg hair less often than I do now. That and a way to get a perfectly smooth bikini line without dragging my ass down to the salon to pay $30-60 for a brazillian bikini wax.

I’m just glad that someone else noticed that “Aussie Nads” is a terrible name for a product.

I use Nads. On my face and legs. Works ok, not perfect, not painless, not matter what the infomercial says. No nicks, no stink, rinses with a tiny bit of water. Best option I’ve used so far.

Alexandria sugaring system. Works great, and the hair doesn’t grow back very well. If you keep using it, you won’t have much hair to worry about.

How about duct tape? You can buy it buy the case at Sam’s Club!

Do be cautious the first time you use those hair-dissolving creams! I know you said you had no skin irritation, SwimmingRiddles, but I ended up with some painful chemical burns on the backs of my calves. Yuk. So do test carefully first. As for me, I’m sticking with shaving cream and a good razor, the times I actually bother.

Snicker, snicker, giggle, giggle

Thanks, folks. I did get some Sally Hansen “cold wax” which is sugar-based, and supposedly you don’t have to heat it, but when I first tried to use it, it was way too thick. I’ll try heating it in some water, as suggested. If that doesn’t work, I’ll order some Nad’s (smirk, giggle).
