They drive me up the wall. Itching, burning, chafing tubes of torment, they are.
I’m wondering:[ul][li]Am I alone here?If not, any suggestions on how to avoid this unpleasantness?[/ul][/li]
What I’d really like to do, (at the moment, anyway,) is burn all of my socks, shave my legs, and bathe in lanolin.
As an alternative, I would consider wearing socks that don’t oppress my ankles. Do such things exist? (“Althetic” socks are right out.)
I don’t know if it just because of my age (46) but at a point about 3 inches above my ankles my leg hair stops. I have always warn athletic type socks with elastic and I figure all the hair has been pulled out over the years.
I’ve been party to most of the above. Used to have leg hair somehow work its way through the sock, and pull like hell when the sock came off. Bald patches starting to develop on the backs of my calves. Tried wearing them pulled down, and found that wasn’t an answer.
Solution I finally hit on?
Move somewhere warm. You can get by either sockless, or with those ankle high socks. I’d seen the things for years, and chuckled, wondering how anyone could actually wear the things. They’re so… goofy looking. Now, they’re all I’ve got, outside a couple pairs of dress socks.
[sub]Which live at the very back of the sock drawer, much like my two pairs of ‘quality pants’ and dress shirts live in the back of my closet. If I wear 'em more than twice a year, it’s a media event.[/sub]
I only wear “no show” socks… even to work…
unless it is snowing out, then I have a few pairs of long socks…I just make sure that they are very tight, that way they don’t move around too much… and they aren’t as itchy…
I vote with the move someplace warm idea. I don’t hate socks, but I just never think about them. I remember as a kid going to school in NJ one day - snow was on the ground - I was wearing flats with no socks - cold feet!
But now, I am a Florida chick - just about every pair of shoes I wear is open toed - and I seriously probably wear socks only a few times a year. I have some pretty ones though, so when I do wear them, at least they are nice.
I get the same ‘itchy as hell’ legs when I wear long socks, even mid-calf, so I buy only ankle length athletic socks and, for work, cheap, minimal elastic, fairly fuzzy and thick dress socks. I don’t have a problem with these. Mainly, I’ve been ok since I stopped ever wearing those long tube socks or fancy dress socks that cling tightly.
Hey Mudd, was I wearing shorts the day of the Vandope? Cos if I was, you would have seen that I have some of the hairiest legs on the planet.
And I wear wool socks year-round. Occasional scratching (Maybe one scratch per day) but that’s it.
But, hey, shjave your legs if you want. This is Vancouver after all.
