Half forgotten old songs

“Fire On the Mountain” just popped up on my Youtube feed. I have no idea what I was listening to that prompted it, but I like it.

Same here. It’s weird! Two days ago it was Lady Godiva. I had not even thought of that song in probably 50 years, and then it just turned up on my doorstep.

They’re listening. Always.

For those who have never heard this haunting tune, here’s a YouTube link:

The Marshall Tucker Band - Fire on the Mountain (Official Audio) (youtube.com)

Slide guitar and flute! Great example of a “story song.” Yes, that was played on Rock stations back in the day.

Not linking.

Years (decades) ago, I was driving along, and heard a song I’d never heard before. A catchy little tune. For decades after that, I was unable to find it, and none of my friends had ever heard of it before.
But, thanks to the magic of the Internet, I am able to present it to you today:

Something I was somehow reminded of again somehow a couple of days ago is a song that ran across a couple of months ago: Dellah and the Dealer. I hadn’t thought of that one at all in decades, in fact I never even knew it was a “real song” until running into it, I had only ever known it was a weird song by a character in an episode of some TV show. I couldn’t track down where I had originally heard it when I tried months ago, but I tried again tonight and found the scene in an episode of WKRP that first aired when I was 7 years old. (No idea when was the most recent time I saw it in reruns.)

The full song, not the WKRP version:

I like to hear the weird 70s stuff (the weirdest decade, hands down). The other day I heard Angel In Your Arms, by Hot, and was perplexed by these lyrics:

When I first found out I hurt all over
I felt so left out till I got to know her
So I tried the way that she got over
And I became just like her
so don’t be surprised to find
That the angel in your arms this morning…etc.

What does that mean?

Drugs?

I’ve found that the way to get the best out of Sirius XM is to have a number of back-up channels that you can switch to. Someone who likes Classic Rock can pick between the 50s, 60, 70s, 80s, and 90s channels, classic vinyl, classic rewind, underground garage, yacht rock, deep tracks, road trip, channels dedicated to the Beatles, Springsteen, the Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, U-2, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews, Phish, Bon Jovi, Jimmy Buffett, first wave, lithium, SiriusXMU, alt nation, Ozzy’s Boneyard, jam bands, the Bridge and a bunch more. Unless your tastes are incredibly narrow, anyone should be able to find something they like playing at any moment. SiriusXM is the only thing that makes up for not having cassette and CD players in cars anymore.

This happened to me the other day when a Sirius channel played “Lunatic Fringe” by Red Rider, which I hadn’t heard since I was 11 or 12, circa 1982, when MTV hadn’t yet reached its first birthday.

I didn’t remember the title “Captain of Her Heart” but definitely recognized it when I heard it, great chords and tune.
And after that youtube video, another good one that I hadn’t heard in a while came up:
Paul Williams and “Save me a Dream”.
https://youtu.be/0-MgVslfD5w

When I first found out I hurt all over
I found out you are cheating on me.
I felt so left out till I got to know her
I met her and we talked.
So I tried the way that she got over
And I became just like her
so don’t be surprised to find
That the angel in your arms this morning
Is gonna be the devil in someone else’s arms tonight
Now I’m also cheating on you.

That’s how you do it. Just switch channels to another one, if you don’t like what’s playing. You’ll find something you like.

Thanks! I guess the line that was really tripping me up was, “I tried the way that she got over”. Got over…heartbreak? A fence? A bad cold? Finish the sentence! I know, then it wouldn’t rhyme.

may i ask how you posted that link?

I also have “This Ol’ Cowboy” by Marshall Tucker on Vinyl

Did not have the usual, daily WTF song in my head this morning because Michelin Tires has firmly implanted The Chemical Brother’s Galvanize in there. So at least I know where the fuck this song in my head is coming from.
