Half forgotten old songs

Hey, that’s one of the better earworms you can get! I’ve always loved Galvanize.

They used to play these songs on the radio all the time, but it’s been years since Ive heard them. It’s a shame to because they’re such great songs:

These Dreams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41P8UxneDJE

Stairway to Heaven: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPSkNFODVRE

In this usage, it means “she attained”. Similar to “overcome”.

Today I learned.

In our neck of the woods (Philly area), “getting over” is a colloquialism that means tricking or scamming or deceiving someone (well, in addition to its more straightforward meaning).

It’s finicky, you basically get one shot at it.

Paste the link in and add a “/” (slash) after it. Then post. You can’t edit after it’s posted. If you edit the post, it will not re-post your link.

That makes the best sense in the context of the song.
Although I have to take issue with the sagacity of making friends with and looking up to the other woman as a role model.

One of the comments says, “sounds like a really intense game of pong”.
:joy:

Don’t Bring Me Down - ELO

There’s actually several old ELO songs that might fit the bill.

Don’t remember the song, but looked up the lyrics. Reads like a “sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose” story.
I found out you were cheating and felt horrible.
Then I learned a little about your other woman (maybe by gossip or maybe by talking and comparing notes with her)
I’ve adopted her techniques (how to flirt?, places to find guys?, how to keep things on the down low?)
Now I’ve got some side action of my own.

It’s not a precisely crafted lyric.

I hear “Don’t Bring Me Down” occasionally but I never hear “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” “Mister Blue Sky” or “Sweet Talkin’ Woman.”

E.L.O. was a rather artsy band, but they did several good tunes that I’ve always liked.

I always thought ‘Telephone Line’ and ‘Hold On Tight (To Your Dreams)’ were overlooked gems.

I also love “Don’t Walk Away”. It’s on the Xanadu soundtrack.

As is “All Over the World,” another great ELO tune that is rarely heard nowadays.

The song in this commercial had me wondering if I had heard it before, or whether it was just written for the commercial. After a bit of searching I uncovered this old gem. Nice simple song.

Or my ELO favorite, ‘‘Turn To Stone’’…https://youtu.be/vGvlYRwAzAs?si=uI0Ee1a9enAwYvSH&t=1/

Hehe, if that’s a prelude to dementia, I’ve had it since I was 9 or so. If I’m not reading, writing or speaking, I have a song playing in my head. A decade or so ago I had a drum part stuck in my head for about two weeks that I simply could not place where it came from. Finally I figured out what it was from - Glenn Branca, Symphony No. 1, Movement 3. Figuring that out was a great relief.

(the particular drum part that got caught in my head comes in at about 16:47)

Apropos of nothing, I’ve got a dance track I’m working on that doesn’t sound like Led Zeppelin’s “The Ocean”, but every time I work on it or listen to it, I get “The Ocean” stuck in my head.

Heheh, maybe you heard the Gershon Kingsley original, instead?

I heard the Hot Butter one first, then I heard the Kingsley version and I thought “wow, this sounds wrong.” I like the Kingsley version better now.

I listen to a bunch of WFMU and their live streams, and they play a bunch of stuff that I barely remember. Last weekend, they played this one. I’ve never owned the record, and I had totally forgotten the song and the band existed, but I knew almost all the words.

Do you not watch movies or TV?
