Halfway through August in the M.M.P

Supply run completed, mined out an old Mac for DH to cannibalize for parts for his current one when he wakes up from the current nap. Like last year around this stage of post-surgery, he’s sleeping a few hours at a time here and there. He says pain is a lot less than the corresponding time last time around, and he graduated from walker to cane in about a day this time (last time, it took him two weeks to reach that stage).

As for me, I suspect sloth and stupid phone games will take most of the rest of the day. Do need to run the dishwasher and take out garbage, but that’s going to have to wait until my sore elbow calms down.

Evening all. I woke up with the urge to go do something today, so I went to visit a garden for which I have a pass that expires shortly. T’was very floriferous, if fairly busy - most people were being sensible and it was all outside, but I think they need to rethink the policy, which is so many people per square whatever- everyone congregates in the bit with the flowers, and the huge area with the trees is virtually empty. I also went fabric buying on the way back- after the former failed attempt, I went and forgot when visiting the Big City. I was passing through a pretty large town I’ve not been to on the way back, and thought I’d keep an eye out, as I really needed a specific bit of fabric for a project. Spotted a shop, went to park the car and walked back, to see the door shut and a sign saying it shut at 3pm- it was 3.05. Luckily the owner was still there and took pity on my sad little face, so I finally got the stuff I’ve been trying to buy for about 3 weeks (I even had an ebay order cancelled and refunded, it’s like my fabric buying’s been cursed, it really is). I’m unreasonably tired now though; it’s not even 7 and I’m wondering if it’s too early for bed.

I don’t have any recent bee pics (planning on heading over tomorrow), but looking round, I found an old one of the axolotls when they were just a few months old and had just been moved into the same tank (the blue thing was a divider, so they could see and smell each other but not bite)- the little pinky white one is the one I lost a few weeks back, I still have the big speckly grumpy looking one.

Please give the reptilian overlord whatever form of affection he prefers. Oddly enough, I’m very snake-phobic (and am not fond of worms), but tend to think lizards are cute.

I hear you. I was the same way. My ‘vague’ post ECT brain, as I called mine, didn’t resolve between treatments so much (mine were M-W-F) as did get back to normal once I didn’t have any for a week or so at the end of the treatment series.

I would do it again if I needed to, but I wouldn’t like it anymore than you do. The short term memory whacking was the worst of it for me. I had to settle for putting together a routine for my days and staying in that groove. Making decisions on the fly was hard. That all got back to normal within a week or two. Best thing was my cats didn’t care, they were happy to have me around more and as long as I could still fill their food bowls all was right with their world.

Hang in there. If I’m any evidence you are on the downhill and picking up speed.

Boo

Honestly, am I the only one round here that knows the difference between an amphibian and a reptile? :stuck_out_tongue: I’m pretty sure I’m the only one that cares… I actually use to have a job which involved giving talks explaining the difference, so it gets me as twitchy as misplaced apostrophe’s.

Unlike you, worms are actually her most favouritest thing- I’ll try and find her a few tomorrow, when I go check on the :honeybee:s. I have to go pinch worms from odd places, due to my lack of any outside space.

I’m aware of a distinction between amphibians and reptiles, but am not usually all that sure which side of that line a given critter is on.

They are so cute! I’m sorry you lost the white one. :frowning:

I shall now attempt to insert a photo (result: loads in preview, won’t post). Still trying.

Help! I also need image tag. Does anyone know?

Afternoon all. Slept in until 8:30am because I could and then decided to go to Logan’s Roadhouse for lunch since I haven’t been there in quite some time and I’m trying to help out the restaurant business here. Then stopped at Publix, was going to get just a bottle of disinfectant, ended up with $40 of sundry goods. Cooler (83F) and cloudy but no rain. Still don’t know if I’ll get any storming when the twin hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast, we’ll just have to see.

Lots of cute pictures, I don’t have any to share as I do not have a pet–mind you, I love dogs and get along with cats, but I’ve worked things on my own for so long that adapting to another creature…

Nut, like Nettie says, we probably can define a ‘reptile’ and ‘amphibian’, but telling from a glace which is which takes a little time…

FCM, enjoy the remodeling.

{{Dot}}

All y’all take care now.

For axolotls, the gills are a dead giveaway- no reptiles have gills, they all breathe air (OK, technically some turtles can absorb oxygen from the water- sometimes in somewhat unexpected ways, but they also breathe air- and no gills).

I need to paint the patio roof today. I’m not a fan of painting, especially when I have to get on a tall ladder.

So far today I’ve made breakfast, and listed an underwater housing w/16mm camera, an Ultra 16 camera, and a vintage watch on eBay.

I have witnessed a true miracle. Verily, 'tis true. My wife managed to drop the digital kitchen scale into the sink water, causing it to lose its tiny mind. Unreadable numbers and then a blank screen. So I thought ah, what the hell, took the batteries out of it, stuck it in the toaster oven on “warm” at 120 degrees and left it for an hour. RESURRECTION! Can I get an ‘amen’ (or at least a “boy, howdy”)?

Happy Saturday!

It was a cloudy 72 degrees when I left this morning, the humidity slapped me in the face as soon as I opened the door. Now it’s 86 outside, the sun is shining, and it’s supposed to get up to 88.
Glad I’m inside.

It was funny at the park this morning.
Olive was there this morning. She is another foster puppy, about 10-12 weeks old, very tiny, very quiet, pittie mix.
Urban was there, big, boisterous, lovable, clownish airedale. Urban is easily the fastest dog of the regulars. He will be loping around the park, 5-6 other dogs chasing him. You can tell he is going slow so somebody can catch him.
Then comes Molly. I thought she was corgi and cattle dog, she is corgi and lab. Think lab on 4 inch legs. Molly is super fast, can easily outrun Urban.
The problem with Molly is, not only is she fast, but she likes to nip Urban’s heels. Maybe she thinks he’s some kind of sheep or something? She has a very strong herding instinct.
So when Molly showed up today, Urban wouldn’t run at all. He doesn’t like having his heels nipped.
However, Olive, little, teeny, tiny Olive, who never does anything, took a liking to Molly. Following her around, jumping on her, trying to get her to play.
And Molly was scared of her. The funniest thing, she actually tried to jump into her dad’s arms to get away from Olive.
Poor Molly. She’ll try to take down an airedale, but runs from a little puppy.

Ralphie is cute. Allie looks like she is not impressed with having her picture taken. What cure little faces your kitties have Dots
The axolotls are cute, for what they are. I think the grumpy one is cuter.

Red, if you view the preview, it should show the picture.
Echo will not get more wrinkles. Shar pei grow into their wrinkles, so they have fewer as adults. She wasn’t very wrinkly as a puppy, she never had wrinkles like Ripple. She has them on her head, neck, and at the base of her tail. Her father is from the Ukraine, and the European standards for shar pei are different than the American ones. She is leggier, leaner, and less wrinkled.

I’m with you on shopping for curtains FCM Six years here and the only room that has them is the living room. All the other rooms have blinds for privacy, but nothing else. Except the kitchen. The window over the sink has nothing. Anybody standing outside can’t see much of anything except our heads. The side window has cling film.
My curtains in the living room fit inside the window frame. There is a tension rod at the top and the hem just brushes the window sill. The window frames are the original woodwork and I think they are too pretty to cover up.
With two dogs and a cat, I definitely do not want curtains that puddle on the floor. Can you imagine the amount of hair that would collect in them?

MetalMouse, OAOASO is OnAgainOffAgainSignificantOther. I guess I should just call him the ex.
He never showed up yesterday, I’m not surprised. He’s supposed to bring stuff over tomorrow. We’ll see.
One of the things that pisses me off with him is that he lets his family take advantage of him. Then when he needs help, I’m the one he comes to. Not just his sons, but his sister is a crack head who has 12 kids by 12 different men (would be 13 but the youngest one died as an infant) and he has helped to take care of them too. I think he finally kicked his sister out, because she was bringing drugs in the house. He doesn’t smoke, drink, do drugs, and hardly ever curses. From the way he went off yesterday, I think all of them will be out. I can cuss like a sailor, and I wouldn’t repeat the stuff he was saying.
I didn’t know he had it in him.

Fence guy never got back to me yesterday, which is okay too.
However, when I went out front to feed Antlers, my fence guy was walking down the street. So he came over to talk a bit, he had a home inspection to go to. He says he will start on my fence on Moonday. Put the posts in and build the front gate and section for the back. The whole fence should be done by Firday. While out there though, what do I see? Crazy B two doors up has a fencing company at her house. So I guess she is putting up a fence too.

I should be getting something done today, but I haven’t done much of anything.
No dog park this afternoon, even though it is nicer outside than I thought. I haven’t gotten anything done, fell asleep earlier and haven’t done anything since I woke up.

amen! boy howdy! and hot damn!

an awed and impressed Boo

I think I have done myself an injury. I was organizing things in the basement yesterday and using the shop vac and blew a bunch of dust into the air. Fortunately I realized what I was doing fairly quickly and quit that, but I had a hacking cough off and on all evening and my lungs still don’t feel so good.

I really like all the critter pics, and I really like that we can magically stick them into our posts. (somehow). I’ll have to make friends with IMGUR or some such and try that out. You folks really deserve to see the cuteness that is Gibbs the Dorky Yorkie. And of course, Vinnie Schnauzer.
I need to work on that.
I used to have a Photobucket account for that sorta thing until they went all Capitalist on everybody.

Yay for resurrecting the kitchen scale Cookie. that was clever. :+1:t4:

In the meantime, please do give Gibbs and Vinnie extra hugs on my behalf. I love just about every animal out there except snakes.

Me too.

Snakes are ok as long as they are out of my sight and hearing. They can have the grass, just give me the sidewalk and stay out of my damn sight. Don’t allow a gang of dang kids to come raring down the sidewalk shaking you at me to scare me. Whew, glad I could get that out of my system.

To post a picture, it must be online. Post the URL for it, on a separate line, and it will show here.

If you’re posting a picture from your Facebook albums, do not post the URL for your FB page unless you want anybody and everybody to see your real name and other info. Right-click on the picture and select “Open image in another tab”. Then open the new tab and post that URL.

I think Boo’s “hot damn!” is prefect.

I have nothing exciting to report. It was nice and cloudy, so I set out for a walk. And, of course, the sun came out. I should hire myself out to people sick of rain. I love sunshine, but my body doesn’t. That must be the secret.

I love all creatures except a few insects. Flies are creepy. Mosquitos are not cute. And I’m not fond of moths. Fleas scare the bejeebers out of me. I like rats but try not to look at their tails. (I view this as my bad trait and not the rats’.) Other than that, I like them, some more than others. Elephants! :elephant:

Nut, the late axolotis was sweet-looking, but I love the expression on the old, grumpy one’s face.

Dot, so glad you have such adorable and loyal kitties there to help you through. I hope once the treatments are finished, you’ll be able to foster again.

Red, I couldn’t view the photo of Nelson. :frowning:
