This morning woke (@ 4 am) but with no panic and minimal pain in my legs. Holy crap, I wish I understood 1% of what goes in on my body. It’s still hotter than a sumbitch here but if I’m not having a panic attack, all’s right with the world. (Even though it isn’t.)
Off to have a pedicure. It’s the one other time when someone touches my actual body, even if it is only my feet. Small gifts…
Just got a call from the vet, there is a problem.
I was starting to get upset that something terrible happened to my Echo.
Nope, I have to come get her, somebody in the clinic tested positive for covid and they are shutting down.
I asked if they could just take her over to the daycare, and they are. So I can pick them up later, unless the daycare closes too.
Morning all. Must have been tired, stayed in bed until after 9am without any masks or prompting. Foot still hurts when I walk, no bruising or swelling that I can see, so damage may be something pulled inside the foot, so may write to the doctor and set up an appointment. Got the UPS office to fax paperwork to start drawing on my annuity, I really don’t need it but I’ll be damned if I let them have my money without a chance for me to spend it. Should start seeing it in September or October.
91F today and no chance of rain again. Nothing to head outside for, so probably be internettin’ and readin’ most of the day.
{{{{Dots}}}}. Others have offered better advice than I can, so just remember; you have friends there and here because you are a good and decent person and we all know it. So buckle down, write out a schedule for eating and other things, and work to try and stick to it. Not easy, but I find when things are written down, I will try to do them so I can write them off.
Sari, glad Echo is ok, will she have to go back for the procedure? Best Buy always took my excess stuff, never thought about Staples, which is closer-thanks for the info.
And good luck with the house.
FCM, is she screaming because she has to take a bath or because she likes the bath so much…or has she just discovered screaming?
OK, need to forage the refrigerator for sustenance. All y’all take care now.
Best Buy will take stuff, but only three items at a time. Staples will take unlimited.
I have a lot of stuff to recycle.
Echo will have to be rescheduled. I called the daycare to see if they were shutting down and they didn’t answer (not unusual during the day), and didn’t call me back to come get her, so I guess all is good there.
Two separate buildings, so I guess the daycare is okay. Or maybe they will stay open today and then shut down.
I’m letting my son sleep a little longer and then he needs to get up so we can get some stuff done. We have to pick up the groceries at 2. I have to remember to get gas while we are there. I’ve been sorting through some papers and found an order to go get a blood test. The stack of papers on my desk was making me sick, so I’m glad I had time to go through them.
I should be doing other stuff, but too much paper irk sitting around is too distracting.
Swampy, I’ma try not to make it a drive by this time, and thank you much for your kind words. HUGS back
Moooom Every time I bathed kids , they mostly scream about having their hair washed, so I’d play “beauty parlor” Put on a silly voice a’la Julia Child and talk about “all the beyooootiful hair they have”. etc. I dunno why it worked, but it did.
Dots Praying for you honey… PM me, and give me your number, if you want, I have big shoulder pads to cry on. Also, What Purple said. HUGS
Nettie Saying a prayer for you and DH that all goes well.
All Thanks again for all the rat love. It really shows how special you folks are… most of the time the reaction I get is… “ewwwww you have a pet WHAT??!”
Domino continues to be cooperative about his medicine. He gave me kisses after this morning’s dose even! He is so smart that I wonder if he knows it’s going to make him feel better. Other than that, I am making Simon & Garfunkel chicken for dinner and trying to get my hovel cleaned up fit for company. Rosie’s sig to you all!
As I understand it (since I wasn’t present) the screams were fear/terror. No clue from either parent as to the cause, since up till now, she’s loved having a bath. They were thinking maybe they’d fill the tub first, then take her into the bathroom - maybe the sound of the running water was upsetting her. Lately, all loud noises seem to frighten her - including the dogs barking.
Hello. I did something yesterday, but heck if I know what it was. Cleaned the litter box. Explained to my son that he can’t play video games in the room where my daughter is taking her classes. He was pretty upset by that one.
Today I shall take my newly registered car to the pharmacy and the bank, and then to a car wash. Between the constant dust and the ash from the nearby fires, it really needs it.
Roast chicken for dinner, assuming rolling black outs don’t hit. I really need a BBQ.
For a while there we were addicted to Snack Pack Tapioca. It’s pretty good!
As for the meds. The hospital should be happy to supply him with meds, for a price. I think you should call and ask if he can bring his own.
The last time I was in hospital for a sleepover they decided to test my blood glucose every 8 hours. I found out later that they were charging me $85 for every finger poke. That was in 2005.

And it’s not run by the Prince of Darkness, it’s run by the Duke of Insufficient Light.
Yesterday morning at about 7am I took Gibbs out back to do his bidness and I heard a noise to my left. I thought it was one of our resident squirrels walking along the top of the fence. I turned and looked and it was a raccoon. I pointed at him and said “No. Go back where you came from”. And he did.
Home from the store.
I saw that there is a contract on the house I like, so now there is no decision to be made.
I’m staying put for a while.
Just as well for now, I don’t need any more aggravation in my life.
I was all set to sally forth and get a flu shot today when I saw that the CDC said this last Friday:
“Getting vaccinated in July or August is too early, especially for older people, because of the likelihood of reduced protection against flu infection later in the flu season.”
My sister says her doctor told her that getting vaccinated too early may mean less protection before the end of flu season.
I’d rather get my flu shot now and trust that Chefguy’s pharmacist knows what he’s talking about. If I get the shot now, am I really risking less protection in late winter?
This article suggest waiting till October. We were going to run right out to CVS, but I think we’ll put it off till at least late Sept.
I took Roxy to the playground, and Daughter took a break from work and came over to sit with us a little while. Now the RoxStar is watching Abby Hatcher Fuzzly Catcher while I make a chicken-rice-broccoli casserole for supper.
Yes. You are risking not having adequate protection through the long flu season. It’s protectiveness diminishes as date from administration extends.
I go with the CDC. They are the big boys on the block in terms of knowledge and experience about flu vaccines. I’m a nurse, 70 and at high risk if I get Covid and the flu at the same time, especially if the healthcare system is stressed by high numbers of patients with severe viruses. I’ve worked in many large scale vaccination clinics over many years. I always get my vaccine in mid-to-late September/early October.
If you are elderly be sure to get the vaccine formulated for high risk people.
This is the CDC cite for the most common vaccine for people over 65 that I mentioned earlier. It is the one I have gotten the last 5 years.
Now is a good time to relate that I haven’t had a case of the flu during the years I have gotten the vaccine in spite of being frequently exposed as a home care nurse.
Thanks much for your input. I’m high risk mostly because of lupus, though I’m also 63. (Is that considered elderly?) I haven’t heard of a high-risk version of the influenza vaccine. What’s different about it?
The CDC link above lays that out. They consider elderly 65yo but you are in another high risk category-I’d check with your rheumatologist about what would be best for you. I just don’t know enough about the ins and outs of that. Whatever the dr’s office recommends specifically for you, please do-I want you around forever!
