My problem is that I get sick for a couple of days after a flu shot, with decidedly flu-like symptoms. This is consistent for me.
Came home early today, feeling unwell. Bit of vertigo with unhappy stomach. I took a Dramamine on arrival home, which should help. Also VERY tired. I do not need to be at less than full capacity myself, given all that needs to happen in the next two days and DH out of commission for a lot of it.
DH is currently installing streaming media apps on my tablet, which will accompany him if he stays overnight (he does not own one of his own and doesn’t want one. The only time he wants mine is for hospital stays).
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got accomplished and we had a late N.O.L./early sup. All is well. Been cloudy all afternoon but no rain.
I will get my flu shot in October, which is the next time I will see my doc. She even told me in July that I would get the shot then. They will be ready and waitin’ on me when I walk in the door apparently. Actually that is kinda true. I’ll go in, see the nurse, get my vitals checked and then she will stab me. I’ll see the doc and then the vampires. That’s the routine.
I wonder how irk is going to handle us getting our flu shots this year now that all of us are working from home. Last year I just went upstairs from the cube farm to get it.
Yay, my pizza’s here! [runs down to get it off the porch]
I think I mentioned last week (at great length… ) that I saw a kitty for adoption I liked?
Well …
… there’s a talkative house panther slinking around sniffing all the things and Nikki is not at all amused but has contented herself with some growling and staring and ohmygod I could babble on endlessly. I’m so excited.
He’s handsome and special, and the first kitty I chose for my very self on my own, for me with absolutely nobody else involved.
Also, he is polydactyl (extra toes) and his thumbs have TWO claws apiece, and he has one single white whisker on his left flue, and rainbow eyes.
He meow-howled the whole five minute drive home … but calmed whenever I talked to him. He’s poking around carefully … but trotted right over immediately for reassurance when I called him. (Well, kissy-noise’d at him. Still needs a proper name.)
Certainly don’t change what is working for you. Just sharing what has worked for me. It is always a cost/benefit decision. I never have an untoward reaction to flu shots and haven’t ever been sickened by influenza so my c/b equation is different.
And when I get the shot, I invariably spend a couple of days with what feels a lot like flu, but I don’t always catch it “in the wild”, so my balance of factors comes down to “probably not going to unless there’s some other factor that makes enduring that known reaction worth doing”.
Exciting times! So happy for you, I‘m still smiling.
Post a pic as soon as you can, please.
For many cats of mine (and there have been many) I used the names of favorite characters in novels. Then there has been cats who seemingly named themselves; Orphan, Pounce, Moxie (yep, Siamese), Salvador (melts in my arms like a Dali painting), Gruntle (the opposite of Disgruntled).
alien, I’ve never really considered a CGM because the cellar readings only happen once in a blue moon mostly. If there’s another within a short period of time, I will consider one though.
nettie, as mentioned above, Snack Pack makes them, but make sure to check the carb grams out. Sometimes the sugar free stuff really doesn’t save that many carbs. As for taking his own meds to the horsepistol, some will allow you to use them, but, IME, they really want to keep chain of custody and keep track of when they give them to the patient both for safety and liability reasons.
{{{dot}}} Come in and lean on your imaginary friends when things get to you. As someone whose memory isn’t what it was 30 years ago, I second writing things down and keeping a routine as much as possible.
Too bad about the vet sari. I hope that Echo gets in soon.
Your new kitteh sounds like a handsome boy shoe. And you know the rule.
Irked, came home, walked the dog, swept the floors, took out the trash (well, set it outside to take out in the morning), watered the plants on the patio and et. Once KP is done, I’ll chill in the studio.
Yeah, that’s the problem. My rheumatologist basically retired. There are only two others, and one is crap–docs never refer anyone to him, and in my brief experience, they’re right–and the other is over 80 and nobody ever answers the phone. I can’t drive, and the nearest good rheumatologist is 3 bus transfers and an Uber away. My GP is good but knows squat about lupus and has been upfront about it from the beginning.
But thank you. Hope you stick around for a couple squillion years, too.
I used to skip flu shots because I got sick once afterward when I was a kid. Then I grew up and learned the flu shot didn’t give me the flu. My docs were adamant that I get one annually because I have lupus, so I have ever since. For those who opt out, maybe they’ll be less apt to get the flu anyway because they’re masking up and social distancing for COVID anyway.
My Navy Friend had a kitty with two claws in one toe. He was inbred–his father and grandfather were the same cat. His name was Cadbury because all her cats were named after candy, but she called him Whitey because he was mostly white. I made him a tag once that said YT. I felt kind of weird putting “Whitey” in the tag maker at Petsmart.
Congrats Shoe on the new kitteh! He sounds lovely. How about Panther? He’s got the dark coloring over the marking which is a characteristic of blank panthers.
Nettie - you should talk to your doctor about your sensitivity to the vaccine. There are other formulations available and one might work better for you. Some of the differences in the vaccines include things like adding additional flu variation protection, providing a stronger dose, or including another drug that help promote immune response.
I made it to the ATM today, picked up meds at the pharmacy, and tried to get my car washed. One was closed and another only took codes from inside the store (Ha! not doing that). Maybe another day.
No rolling blackouts so far, which I appreciate. We are about 8 miles from a fire that is a whole bunch of different fires that got started by lightning the other day. It was at 25,000 acres several hours ago, with 0% containment. I think they are focusing on keeping the fire from coming over the hill towards the towns out here. Instead it’s burning up into state parks and ranch land. For now, the biggest impact to our lives is that air quality: it is very smoky.
MetalMouse I hope your doctor is able to help. I’ve done a few things over the years to my feet and it always takes months to get back to normal. I started having heel pain in February this year and then couldn’t go to physical therapy until end of April due to lockdown. Not much fun.
Started German class yesterday and we managed to go for a walk since it wasn’t boiling or storming.
And I even made pie. Wanted to finish last year’s pumpkin which was in the freezer before starting this years.
And now it’s time to go to the office, for my weekly visit.
Morning all! Wet and miserable out there today, good job I have very few plans for the day.
So far, all I need to do it go to the garage and put air in my tyres since the warning light is on, and get groceries. After that, I am thinking of spending the rest of the day on the sofa watching films. Dinner tonight shall be sausages and mash, much to the delight of Shadow who thinks sausages are just for him.
Shoe love the kitteh! My black boy is Shadow, obviously. We had him as a stray several years ago, some bright spark had been calling him Sooty but he didn’t answer to it, so we renamed him Shadow…although he quite firmly believes his name is “good boy, what do you want out of the fridge?”
