JMHO - As a casual outside observer, I have always gotten the impression that BBJ has some jealousy issues with you. Her pettiness is getting a little old and stale.
As far as the OP, I say let Halle enjoy her win, but I certainly don’t see it as a Rosa Parks moment.

I don’t get this at all.
I looked at every second of the Oscars and was struck with the lack of emotion by most of the winners. This is the biggest award they can get in their field and a lot of them just accept it, thank the people they worked with and their SO’s and bugger off. No passion at all.
Halle went OTT no question but so what? It was her moment and she got caught up in it. I didn’t think she was saying “poor me I had it hard” what I got was a woman talking about how other people had had it hard. So what if she went on too much, thanked her lawyer etc. She had just won something that she obviously didn’t think she had a hope of winning and deservingly so by all accounts although I haven’t seen the movie as it’s not out here yet.
Good on her and nice to see that some of the stars actually give a shit about these things.
For the love of God, that comment was made to Mr. Cynical because it was ridiculous for him to be jumping somone’s ass because they said it was unlikely jar would ever win an academy award. It wasn’t pointed at you jar…it was for Mr. Cynical who I thought was a bit rude over an obvious point. It was not a critique of your acting skills in any way…rather…it was a commment that it would be VERY VERY unlikely so Cynical should not have called that individual a “dumbass”. So, if you took it to mean something else, I apologize.
But, FTR jar, I am not “mean” to you. We had it out in that thread regarding football when I specifically said it was NOT directed at you in the OP. I happen to be a huge Packers fan, and then I supported somone else’s thread re you, in a very nice fashion…no name-calling, I just believed that the OP had a point…even if the OP wasn’t put forth in the nicest of ways. I have told you numerous times…I guess you haven’t heard…that I generally like your stuff and laugh my fool head off at it. But, you act as though (someone else’s analogy) you are the sacred cow of this board and if someone disagrees with you they are “mean.”
I think it’s silly that everytime I post about anything re you I have to think…how can I make it clear to her that I disagree w/ her without making her throw a fit and leave the board in a huff again…I mean THAT’S RIDICULOUS!!! Can you really point out anything or anytime where I was ACTUALLY MEAN TO YOU rather than just disagreeing and couching it in reasonably nice terms?

Prior to the crash, this board smacked of rivalries and pettiness and had some pretty scary damn socks/trolls. Let’s not let this accusation of yours turn into a blight on this “new” board.

Also, please find in this thread where I went crazy or pouty or ‘dramatic’ because someone disagreed with me. I think you’ll find that I did not. People disagreed with me and I still won’t change my position. If restating again and again that I disagree is being overly dramatic…then so be it. I’ve been making a conscious effort lately to not be overly dramatic, and also not to post as much at all. This particular issue was driving me batty.

I agree 100%. She was quite clear that she felt priviledged to have been the one who this happened to. And I always find emotional, if someowhat coherent OTT acceptance speeches more satisfying, then cold, mechanical, emotionless ones like Jennifer Connelly made (but both Halle and Jennifer get a lot of leeway with me, they are both so insanely gorgeous).

Also, approximately 100 of my posts are gone due to the crash…I have posted such wonderful (note sarcassm) things as stupid things my cats do…ghosts…chiropractors…peer review/journal keeping…a stupid thread I wish I had not done re Peppers…the joys of Coke…my evil landlord…prealence of phallic symblos…sexual aids…I think I contributed to a thread in GD re nihilism and something re groundhogs…these are just the ones I can remember.
Note, if I were chasing after jar, wouldn’t I have posted to that police thread that turned ugly…? I didn’t. I rarely post in her threads. I also did not post in the sports bet threads due to the fact that I did not want to bring back any bad feelings on either side re the Packers thread.
