I beat Halo 3 on normal pretty quickly, so quickly in fact that I thought I’d play through it again on a harder setting. I’ve never played any Halo on Legendary, but I figured it couldn’t be that hard. I was wrong. It’s hard. It’s refraculously hard.
You die in like three hits from any gun, whereas a brute takes like 10 head shots from a carbine. Anyway, I’ve been slowly making my way through. And I just played through the a section where it was basically just me versus 20 brutes, most of them flying. Slowly and carefully I was picking them off when the game decides a wraith should also be shooting at me to make things more interesting when I realized this is freaking ridiculous.
Seriously, does anyone breeze through legendary or is it more of a slog? Cause dammit I’m slogging.
No. It’s a slog. If you ever played Halo 2, that was even more punishing. And it’s often not the good kind of punishing, where you’re punished for not being good enough. It’s just “particle beam to the face! Retry? Y/N”
Fortunately you can co-op your way through it pretty easily if you have a few semi-talented friends.
Just finished Halo I co-op legendary a couple of days ago, and that was ok. And just started Halo II this evening the same way and are getting our asses whupped badly. Oh, so very badly. Halo II doesn’t allow the re-spawning teammate like Halo I: one of you dies, back to the last checkpoint, so sad. And your shield sucks much more and the Covenant’s guns seem much better.
Sorry, still reeling from the last couple of hours’ FAILURE.
Here’s a trick: Run. Seriously, that’s all you have to do most of the time. You can run through most sections before the enemeis even know where you are.
Halo 2’s Legendary was borderline unfair. The second battle you get in the game (it’s the second skirmish in the first stage) is one of the hardest battles in the entire game. Halo 2, you had to conserve your ammo, especially your grenades, because you weren’t going to get many of them. Also, as a note, you’re not going to stick anyone, so just plan for the blast from the grenade instead ot sticking a foe. Carry as much ammo around with you in that first stage. The newbie combo (plasma pistol and battle rifle) is your best and only friend. Playing co-op on Halo 2 on Legendary is even meaner. If one of you die, you both go back to the last checkpoint. If you get to the last guy, you have to make sure all your ammunition is used wisely. There’s a limited amount. Lastly, the Jackal snipers are brutal. They rarely miss the first shot. If they miss the first shot, they WILL get you with the second shot and it will be a headshot. Halo 2 on Legendary is one of the hardest feats, possibly in gaming history.
Halo 3 is also bad, but it’s not completely unfair. Again, the bitch combo is your big friend despite the fact that the plasma pistol doesn’t track like it does in Halo 2. Halo 3 in co-op mode, unless you get one of the skulls and activate it, won’t bring you bck a checkpoint if one person dies. If you have 3 other good teammates, Legendary is actually easy. You can actually stick your enemies with grenades. The Jackals aren’t as bad this time around, but if they have a sniper rifle, they’ll still get a headshot virtually every time. Their heads light up a little bit, making them a little more visible. They’re also pretty damned handy with a Covenant Carbide.
Again, I repeat, the bitch combo is your friend. Ever play Halo 2 online? You use the combo a lot.
Ok, this is good to hear, because we are getting dead dead dead at precisely that point (the endless elite-producing tube o’ death). And then they toss out a couple of guys with swords. Ugh.
