Hamburger or Fries?

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but I’m assuming that general includes dumb. If you were to go to a fast food resteraunt, which one would be more nutritious, the hamburget or the fries (for the sake of this experiment we’ll say it’s a medium fries).

I need your help folks, I’m standing in line right now and I can’t make up my mind.

Well, given that the hamburger will most likely contain meat, bread, tomato, and possibly cheese at least and that french fries contain only potatoes, I’d have to go with the burger. Nutrition requires variety.

It also depends on what else you’re eating in your diet. If you lock yourself inside, and only eat hamburgers or fries for the rest of your life, I’d choose the hamburgers, for the reason cher3 gave. If you only go in once a month, it probably doesn’t matter too much since it’s a small part of your diet, but I’d guess the fries would be better. You can probably check any fast food chain’s website to find out the nutritional info for their stuff. Most likely, the product with the fewest calories and fat will end up being better for you if you eat it sparingly, to minimize the damage.

Note that variety isn’t required for nutrition. A human can survive just fine eating only Purina High Protein Monkey Chow.

Ask the restaurant for a copy of its nutritional information sheet. Every fast food chain has one.

If you are concerned with nutrition, why are you eating fast food?

I also wonder why they bother putting nutritional information on Twinkies.

Eat your own shoe. It’s better for you.

Hmmm, good idea. I’ve put my foot in my mouth so many times I’m beginning to like the taste of shoe. It’s an acquired taste…

Well, yeah, Arjuna34, but that only works because they’ve put in the nutrition that you would get from a variety of foods. (I hesitate to ask how you know this, by the way.)

There aren’t too many foods that have that much nutrition by themselves, with the possible exception of the one I feed my baby out of his bottle. And even he is getting tired of that one.

If you need some help, let me offer some:

Don’t take your computer to the fast food joint with you.

I think a more realistic way to phrase the question is:

Which of the two will do the least harm?

To sum up: The burger has more good stuff in it, but it also has more bad stuff. If you’re looking to get the most good stuff possible, eat both, if you want the least bad stuff, don’t eat either. Personally, I’m rather inclined to the “good stuff” point of view, but that’s just me.

No nutritional deficiencies or lack of fiber or anything?
Where would you get this Monkey Chow? I doubt the local feed store’s going to have a 50lb sack laying around.

I wonder what it tastes like…

Exactly how do you know this??

Shoestring fries are significantly less nutritious because all they consist of is crisp outer skin soaked in fat/oil, with little or no unfried potato inside.

So the ideal way to go is to ask for potato wedges instead.
