Hamburgers in a can? What is this thing?

More for the British contingent in the audience: When I lived in Cambridge in the '70s, a street vendor sold “hamburgers” from his cart late at night. They were colored bright red, came packed in large cans, and were steamed in their own juice. I used to buy them on my way home after drinking and developed quite a taste for them.

What was the brand name of these delicacies, and can you still buy them on the street late at night?

Westler’s Hamburgers in Onion Gravy?

At least it has the approval of “mum.”

(And they’re giving me hell about scrapple in another thread.)

Cheeseburger in a can.

“Dog food mixed with tinned ravioli.” Yep, that’s them! Mystery meat extraordinaire! :o

“My can haz cheeseburger.”

“Look for it on your grocer’s can.”

Reminds me of a tin filled with Danish meatballs I bought for a quick lunch at a Moscow kiosk back in the '90s. I opened the can when I got to work and found them inedible; when I gave them to the studio cat, he turned up his nose at them.
