Hey people: what do you eat after a hangover? I always thought that cold milk and a peanut butter sandwich tasted good when you get past the nausea thing.
Taco Bell and Gatorade.
IHOP Whatever that omletted is that comes with the hasbrowns already cooked into it…
-OR-
McDonalds Breakfast Burritos.
RE Taco Bell – That’s good for when you’ve just quit drinking but are still drunk.
Beezle, Taco Bell is good post-drinking food and ideal damn I’m stoned food, but I prefer all night diner breakfasts for my after the bars close eating needs.
Heh, I remember back when I was into trippin, Taco Bell was open 24 hours. Mmmmmm, nothing like coming down and watching the sun rise while eating Nachos Bell Grande.
Hang-over food? Cold pizza! Perfection! (and no prep or clean-up to hassle with!)
Tripping food, Tater? That’s a horse of a different simile! Depends on the trip, but a spoonfull of peanut butter quickly followed by a shot of Bianca is STRONGLY contra-indicated! I nearly put a close friend into cardiac arrest with this combo one night!
Ack, you don’t eat while you trip! That’s just nasty. We’re talking post-trip before you pass out food.
Although once I tried to eat chips and salsa while trippin…big mistake.
Noodles, always noodles. They’re not too assaulting on the taste buds, they don’t crunch and they come in soup. What more could you want?
When I was drinking, anything that had a high fat & protein content worked. Giant cheese omelette, McDonalds breakfast, big breakfast burrito, (the real kind from a roach coach.) Traditional Mexican hangover cure is Menudo. But if you don’t like spicy tripe stew, that might just make you hurl.
Wasn’t me… just a (willing, but sorry later) victim!
We were experimenting with trip-tastes… peanut butter and Bianca isn’t good!
Krystals are fine to give your innards the coating needed to appropriately stave off nausea and a headache.
Slim-Jims can be used to the same end in a pinch.
If you actually have to function and be somewhat lucid, Tic-Tacs (the white ones only) work well. I made it through many a Friday morning class, going through a box of Tic-Tacs easily, using this technique. Whoever came up with the idea that Thursday should be the big party night in Clemson should be shot.
Fresh grapefruit or pineapple will turn a miserable hangover into a relatively happy one.
Nah, tater’s got it right. What you need’s a good big greasy diner breakfast, lots of protein and starch…eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, tomato juice w/lemon, pots and pots of strong black java, and don’t forget the butter on the toast.
A good possible alternate is garlic soup…saute some stale bread in a little olive oil, throw in a few minced garlic cloves, a healthy pinch of paprika and a smaller one of cayenne, salt to taste, and a pint of strong chicken broth. Let it simmer for 15 minutes, and beat in an egg or two during the last minute on the stove.
But I may only be saying this because I’m on a garlic soup kick now, and I’m recommending it as a cure for everything short of brain cancer.
For the morning after (or the afternoon after, as the case may be) a bender, it is best to start off with another beer. Jeer if you must, but until you’ve tried hair of the dog, you can’t judge.
After I’ve choked that sucker down, it’s off to McDonald’s. I don’t think I’ve ever been awake to experience a hangover before 11 a.m., so McDonald’s is already on their lunch menu. I think all of the sodium and fat jam-packed into a Double Cheeseburger Combo has healing properties.

OK mister you march yourself right back into that kitchen and don’t come out until you’ve got a cure for brain cancer too. Don’t they deserve a chance too?
The nerve of some people.
I have some kind of reflex…if I pass out I snap awake at 6AM, and can not go back to sleep for a couple of hours. I don’t know why. This only happens if I pass out, though…just going to bed after hard-drinkin’ doesn’t trigger it. It must be an actual “drank-so-much-that-you-lost-consiousness” event.
I know exactly what you’re talking about, Beelzebubba. But my 6 a.m. wake-up serves for me to stumble out in a dream-like state to the kitchen to guzzle some water, and then (if I’m able) go ahead and wash off my make-up & brush my teeth. Rarely do I remember to get those duties out of the way before I pass out. But I’d say I’m usually still pretty drunk for my 6 a.m. adventure. I wouldn’t be hanging over until hours later.
I’m so sad to have done this often enough that I’m able to make a “Usually when this happens, I…” statement.
Is this fresh in everyone’s minds from St. Patrick’s Day?

Well, the de riguer answer is of course the almighty Slider.
White Castle is so firmly ingrained as hangover food, it is part of the Midwest consciousness.
However, for me the best post drinking food is the fried rice from the 3rd shift Thai place right next to the Irish bar I frequent. It is the best damn rice I have ever had-brown from soy nad all the other condiments, green onions, good and plentiful meat (I prefer the pork but the beef is fine as well) and that’s about it. No extraneous veggies to cause any possible adverse alcohol rejection syndrome! It is a little different from Chinese fried rice but it is so good, I am drooling!
And when he used to make satay and you could get a combo with the satays on top of the rice with his homemade peanut sauce…<wistful sigh>
Arrrgh, I have to wait until Thursday night to get some…
Barring a grilled New York strip steak and poached eggs with hash browns, fresh orange juice and some coffee with cream, the only other candidate is the Sopa de Pollo con Arroz (Chicken and Rice Soup) from Mario’s La Fiesta Mexican restaurant in Berkeley, California.
I’ll have to do some research into the efficacy of dim sum and sizzling rice soup sometime. Oh boy, field study projects!
Back in college, my wonder hangover years, I found the ‘perfect’ cure for one, though I’ve not been able to recreate it since then. The on-campus restaurant served a burger called a Colby Eight. This consisted of a greasy burger, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg on a bun. With the obligatory french fries and either water or a diet coke. Settled my stomach right down, and usually left me feeling pretty perky for either studying or for another night of drinking.
Steak (preferably sirloin or better) and eggs over medium, all drenched in A1, accompanied by an un-iced pitcher of water and bunch of vitamins.
Oy, now I’m hungry.
