One of my favorite actors turns 74 today.
It’s really warped, but when I read the OP my first thought was “He’d be worth 26 points in the Dead Pool.” I checked, and nobody has him.

Duvall is one of my favorites, too. Looking over his filmography on his IMDB page, it’s amazing how many great movies he’s been in. But of course, many of them are great because of him.
He would still be great in my book if all he’d ever done was Lonesome Dove. I had read the book before watching the movie. When I started watching the movie, I was a little unsure if I’d like it because the Gus McCrae I had imagined while reading it was very different from Duvall’s looks and mannerisms. But damned if he didn’t OWN that role.
He is on my favorite list as well, few actors I can think of have demonstrated such a great range of fine characters. Too bad he was nominated as Best Actor for The Great Santini the same year De Niro was up for Raging Bull, that was definitely an Oscar-winning performance.
