Robert Duvall, the Oscar-winning actor best known for “The Godfather,“ “Apocalypse Now” and many other tough-guy roles over an acclaimed screen career that spanned six decades, has died. He was 95.
Duvall died “peacefully” at his home in Middleburg, Virginia on Sunday, according to a statement sent by his public relations agency on behalf of his wife, Luciana.
One of the best ever to do it.
(pours one out)
Very sad. He is among my favorite actors. Heckuva career.
RIP
Always great.
Oh, saw the TV blurb crawl by. I looked it up.
I loved him.
One of my favorites too. So good in about everything he did. R.I.P.
RIP. What a body of work he had.
I’ll always think of him as the enemy agent who sabotaged the Time Tunnel in “Chase Through Time.”
RIP.
So Boo Radley is gone now.
His life. It smells like victory.
Oh no! That’s too bad - he was one of the greats.
One of my favorite actors. Always entertaining.
RIP.
The Great Santini!
Indeed.
deleted because I’m a dumbass.
My first thought also.
Duvall was a master actor. He was always great.
He was always great in everything I saw of his, and he worked steadily for over 70 years – his first acting credits (on stage) go back to 1952, his first TV credits were in 1960, and his last credits were in 2022.
Fifty-eight(!) years ago he was the cab driver in Bullitt who helped Steve McQueen find the bad guy just before other bad guys found him, leading to the infamous chase through the streets of San Francisco.
I’ll always identify him as Gus McCray in Lonesome Dove. Amazing career.
Wow. I had not placed him quite that much older than me. Until I thought about it. In any case, 95 is a good long run for a guy who had plenty of opportunity for excessive everything.
I don’t know anything about his off-screen life. But yes, onscreen he was one of the greats; good at his work and able to play a wide range of characters.
