Happy Canada Day Y’all!
Happy Canada Day indeed!
I’d love to see the fireworks again in Vancouver, they were fantastic.
NO. WEST. WEST GOOD.
Thanks, everyone!
I just got back from a nice long weekend (took Monday as a holiday, and I think a lot of others did as well, because there was a memo at work saying that the cafeteria would not be serving hot food on Monday). I’m sunburnt, I have little maple-leaf stickers all over me, and I’m just now backing up a lot of pictures. I was with friends and their families the whole weekend, which meant successive waves of Very Cute Kids. Yesterday, I introduced one to making web pages, and when I came down this morning, there he was on the computer expanding things. Then this afternoon we went to Cobourg to meet another relative and this kid picked up a golf club for the first time and you could see him learning it. Smart kid. We went to the Cobourg parade and then to the waterfront.
My best Canada Day memory…
I wandered around a Federal Historic site (Rocky Mountain house original Fort site) listening to “anarchy In the UK - Sex Pistols” while watching Gophers run in and out of the sunken (1810) era graves of the proctors of that trading post…
I was smoking a joint and the head phones kept me from noticing the RCMP Officer that snuck up on me
He nudged me on the shoulder and said “Don’t bogart that thing buddy, gimmee a toke!”
Gotta love the red, white and leaf!

Thank you! Happy Canada Day to all of you, too!
My mom was in town, so we went out to dinner last night, and today went out and walked around the Old Port for a few hours. We had lunch on a terrasse, shopped a little (though didn’t buy anything), and just enjoyed the sun. It was nice. We didn’t take the cars out… we parked them Monday afternoon and haven’t moved them, because Moving Day is just that much of a nightmare!
Happy Canada Day!
Next week it’ll be one year that we left Canada. It’s funny, in the last few weeks I’ve started to think “Hmmm, little by little I’m getting used to this place. I’m starting to see myself as …a Californian”
Then you guys have to go and make me all wistful like!
Oh well, I’m going back to Calgary for a visit next week. Ginger, I’ll eat an Alberta steak - just for you!
We went to Canadian Tire and got some funny money today. What could be more Canadian than that?
I’ll bring the Trivial Pursuit game to our virtual Canadian party.
Just got back from a neighbour’s, We ate; we drank; we had beaucoup de fireworks. Splendid party. (Anything’s a good reason for a party here!)
*It’s Canada Day up Canada Way on the first day of July.
And we’re shouting hooray up Canada Way when the maple leaf flies high.
Where the silver jets from East to West are streaming through our skies.
We’ll be shouting hooray up Canada Way when the great parade goes by.
Chorus:
Oh Canada, standing tall together,
We'll raise our hands and hail our flag
The maple leaf forever.*
Yep. Hearing the fireworks. I don’t know if it’s Canadian celebrating (lots of them summer here), or Americans getting an early start.
It’s still Canada day for… half an hour.
We went to Heritage Park and then had a BBQ and hung out.
Hope everyone had a good one!
Spent the day sailing on Superior, spent the evening listening to some live bands at the marina in TBay, finished it off watching the city’s terrrific firework display. Not a bad birthday party at all.
Mrs. Piper and I got our picture taken with the Lt Gov and Mrs. Lt. Gov at the garden party, and just got back from the fireworks. Ran into lots of friends on the Albert Street bridge. Excellent fireworks display over the lake, with the Lege as a backdrop. Maple leaf, Saskatchewan and Union Jack flags alternating on the flagpoles along the bridge. Then walked home. Back to work tomorrow, I’m afraid. sigh.
