Happy Fourth, everyone!

No arrow here in India. :frowning:

Wish a safe and happy Holiday to all who are celebrating.

I wonder if the Google home page has something more relevant to India–say, a national holiday? Let us know.

I’m not seeing anything special either (in Canada).

Mine defaults to Google.ca (Google Canada) even when I type in Google.com or Google.us. I guess this means we have finally taken over the world.

May we all have as many fingers and eyes tomorrow as we do now.

I plan on having more.

Ahem . . . cough cough . . .

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday, dear US-eh!
Happy birthday to you.

That’s cool. But is it Rube Goldberg’s birthday as well?

Yes it is!

I wanted to link everyone to the animation but it seems to be done in Javascript not Flash so I cant. I can only find the still image so for those outside the USA I’m afraid they’ve left it up to your imaginations. :frowning:

Happy 234th birthday, USA! Hope you’ve all had a good day, as I have: parade, swimming, a toast, and fireworks tonight. Huzzah!

I reckon I’ll fire up the BBQ around 19:00. Two and a half hours to go…

I bought a mortar for the first time. I hope there’s enough room at the beach to use it.

Got the BBQ lit earlier and did hamburgers and corn in the husk.
Finished off with a watermelon.

the melon was ripe and sweet for a change.

Happy 4th of July everyone!!!

Happy Independence Day Y’all!

I ate enough ribs, bbq and brunswick stew to claim personal responsibility for the slaughter of at least one hog today.

Hope all American Dopers have had a funfilled and safe holiday today!

I guess I’ve lived a deprived life (or the things are illegal for mere mortals up here which wouldn’t surprise me in the least).

What is a “mortar” in the sense that you are referring to (I know what they are in terms of military weapons and in terms of gunk that holds bricks together)?

‘Mortars’ (the kind you can buy around here) are heavy cardboard tubes with a base. They are loaded with an ‘aerial shell’ which comprises a lifting section and the fireworks section and a long fuse. The lifting part lofts the shell into the air, and the firework is like what you see at Disneyland.

Happy Birthday, USA. You’re not perfect, but I love you all the same.

Thank God for the American Revolution, or else we’d be English.

But then, thank God for the British Empire. For all their faults the really did build something civilized instead of the smash-&-grab conquest the Spaniards had done.

But then, thank God for the Spanish. They checked the invasions across the Mediterranean by the Turks. If we lived in the Ottoman Empire, we’d all be slaves.

But then, the Turks really did bear the brunt of the Mongols. I know the Mongols were defeated by the malmuks in Egypt, but we have to give the Turkic peoples the credit for absorbing most of the punishment.

So Happy 4th of July to all the international Dopers, and Fuck the Mongols!

WHAT? WHAT’S THAT YOU SAY? Just got back from the beach. Some people were going to try to launch three aerials simultaneously, and I joined in with my tube. Unfortunately, I was still trying to light my fuse when theirs went off. And the lofting charges were very loud. Got a bit of ringing in both ears. :stuck_out_tongue:

Some people next to us threw their empty boxes into their campfire. But the boxes weren’t empty. You should’ve seen 'em run!
