Happy Memories Monday: Fun Things We Did Over The Weekend

Did you have a good weekend? Do something fun or just something that made you smile?

Mondays are bad enough as it is - so if you had a rotten weekend - feel free to bypass this thread. . . .
My weekend happy memories:

[ul]
[li]Went to the farmer’s market for the third time. I really like the concept of buying local, fresh produce. And it’s been inspirational in the meal planning as well. Had kale for the first time that I can recall - it was an adventure.[/li]
[li]Got to have lunch with a college friend. It’s the first time we’ve seen each other in almost 20 years. I think we were both nervous at first - but now I’m sure we’ll hang out more. And that’s cool.[/li]
[li]This weekend was super double coupons at Harris Teeter. I’ve been trying to stay on a coupon kick, with the way the economy is. Between my e-Vic card savings and my coupons, I saved almost $69. So my $144 grocery bill was only $75.60. That was so cool.[/li][/ul]

We got bonus on Friday, so I was finally able to get our daughter the Bayer Didget she’s been asking for. It’s sad when you get all a’flutter over a blood glucose monitor. Plus we were able to hit Sam’s and do some shopping. Sunday was church, and we had 10 kids recognized for their Bible Drill achievements. Our two were up there as well. Our daughter was called on to recite a verse in front of the church.

I actually did have a really fantastic weekend. My FIL came to visit from out of state. Friday we spent time just the two of us, ate good sushi and went for a walk and had lots of good conversation.

Saturday the three of us drove to Adventure Aquarium in Camden, which is not far from our home-- it was spectacular, and i think I liked it even better than Shed in Chicago. I love sea creatures, and this place had a few enormous tanks that made it feel like you were nose to nose with the animals (in the tank I linked to, there were enormous stingrays that kept banking and swooping down on top of us. It really does feel like you’re underwater somehow.) I got to pet sharks, jellyfish (yes, jellyfish! they feel like… jelly!) and little stingrays. I love petting stingrays; some of them really like it and follow you around the tank. The neatest thing about it was watching other people’s reactions. People of diverse ethnicities, classes, ages, and nationalities, all reacting with the same sense of wonder. It was very moving.)

As if the day wasn’t cool enough, on our way out the door we were facing the Philadelphia skyline over the Delaware River Waterfront, and a man had hired a plane to carry a banner proposing to his girlfriend. She was standing there crying when we walked out, having just seen the banner, and was waving the ring in the air while the man pumped his fist and everyone applauded.

That evening we stayed in, watched episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Instant Watch and ate sushi and Chinese take-out.

Sunday morning was brunch at a delicious nearby diner I’d never been to–eggs Benedict with crab cakes, mmmmmm.

It was a really enjoyable weekend. One that ranks up there in ‘‘best weekends of my lifetime.’’ Almost perfect contentment, good company, and cute little sea critters.

olives that does sound really lovely.

I had a great Saturday, pottering in the garden, repotting some tomatoes and fiddling around. We bought my daughter a couple of things for her bit of the garden too and she had a great time planting those up. We had a barbecue in the evening and my daughter and I picked some salad leaves to eat with it, and I found a great recipe for sweet chilli sauce online and made some of that. We finally got around to watching Frost/Nixon on the DVD which was very good.

Sunday was ok, mostly spent revising for my last ever exam. My husband took my daughter out to some friends, and I took a break in the afternoon and went over there for a little while. We sat in their lovely garden drinking cloudy lemonade, watching the kids play. It was pretty idyllic. It’s been almost 30 degrees © here all weekend, the garden’s looking great, my family are well and wonderful, so it’s all good!

Plus, I know it’s cheating, but said last exam finished at midday. I’m free of academia (apart from the teeny tiny 15000 word dissertation)!

Way to go, Charley! That is no small feat. You’ll have the dissertation done before you know it!

(My husband just finished his Master’s proposal. He’s a Ph.D. student, so he’s still in the thick of it, but still…)

Went to Erie PA to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Wacky Shak. It rained so we got to ride so much that by the end of the day even the wife and I were tired of having fun.

Thanks everyone for sharing! Makes today much less boring.

I should mention that tomorrow I start my last class before graduation. I haven’t been in a classroom for about 10 years - so it’s a little scary. But my bf is excited to be dating a coed - lol.

It was my favorite kind of weekend. I didn’t leave the house, didn’t do a damned thing.
I love lazy weekends!

I spent Saturday during the day chilling out, watching Battlestar Galactica, grocery shopping and then heading to my pseudo-mom’s place to chill, hang out, play with my pseudo-niece, swim and lounge about in the pool. In the evening, I went up to the Planetarium to give a couple of shows, one for a Scout troop, the other for the general public, and then went out dancing till the wee small hours of the morning.

Sunday was a day to lie in, clean the apartment, go to my body pump class and relax!

I made challah on Saturday and then turned it in to French toast on Sunday for breakfast, which was amazing. And I tried a recipe for cupcakes that look like Hostess cupcakes when you’re done. They taste really good even if I didn’t get much filling in the middle.

Sunday we put flowers in our new raised bed. It’s going to be for perennials eventually, but most of them seem to need to be planted in the fall so for this summer it’s an annual bed. We went with reds, yellows, and oranges, with dahlias, salvia, gazania, portulaca, and calabrachoa. It’s bright and cheery.

It was a good weekend of not traveling after a very busy last few weekends.

This weekend was a great one for me also. My daughter graduated from high school, and we had her party on Saturday. Her friends stayed downstairs playing pool and watching videos, and playing Wii sports. They had a hilarious time. We had invited some old friends we don’t see often enough to the party also. We sat around drinking far too much wine, and laughing ourselves silly. In the evening, we started a fire for the graduates in the backyard. (marshmallows were eaten, as is required with a campfire). The adults went to bed at 10pm, and the kids left around 11:30pm. Oh, and my husband did all the cooking for the party. Ribs, pulled pork, rice with green chilies, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. Cheesecakes were for dessert. YUUUUMMMYYY. This carried over into Sunday, as we had all the leftovers to eat too! <sigh> GOOD WEEKEND!

Thirteen separate campaign events around the county.

Happy memory: Getting a group of workers so riled up by a speech that they were screaming in rage. There IS no better feeling.

My 8 year old daughter was in her first real ballet performance. The Tucson Ballet did Midsummer’s Night Dream and she was a firefly (onstage all of 3 minutes). But she adored it and looked cute as a bug… a firefly in fact!

On Saturday night, my 11 year old son was honored as an author at this year’s performance of “Stories That Soar”, where a professional acting troupe acts out local kids’ stories and poems. It was pretty cool, with a red carpet-type experience for him, plus now he’s actually published in a book.

I went to the Fancy Meat and Cheese store, and bought different tasty things for dinner. Meats, cheeses, olives, bread. I love shopping for delicious things! There was enough left over for a proscuitto and pate sandwich for lunch today (cheese on the side) and pasta sauce tonight.

The Bloke and I had purchased an old camping trailer (caravan) a couple of weeks back, so after getting her some new tyres and the brakes fixed, we took her away for the weekend.

It’s only about 20 minutes from our home.

The weather was fantastic, the birdlife stupendous, the caravan behaved herself like a dream, and I did bugger-all for the weekend except poke the campfire with a stick occasionally.

hurray - this was a cool way to start my Tuesday - reading about the new stories added since last I left it! Thanks for sharing! And congrats on the cool stuff!

On Sunday the mack family walked downtown to Johnny Rocket’s in Manhattan (betw 62nd and 63rd on 1st) to get my wife a burger, me a Streamliner (yummy veggie burger) and our two 7 year old girls some milkshakes, mini hot dogs and chicken tenders. Amid the carnage one my girls’ baby teeth came out. There was much rejoicing. Monday morning at 5 am I sat bolt upright in bed, having forgotten to do my tooth fairy duties. After some sneaking around, the deed was done and I laid back down in peace.

Can I go with the previous weekend? 'Cause on that Sunday me and my son went down to Cincinnati to see his first major league baseball game. I planned it out so it was a kid jersey give away day and we had tickets in the all you can eat section.

We got there early, he got his jersey, we picked out new hats, and began the pig out. The boy ate his weight in hot dogs and chips. He had to have a big foam finger on the way out. AND he got to see the Reds win and move into first place. Not even a little rain spoiled the day.

I think it made an impression on him, he has not shut up about it in over a week. It was a good day.

Saturday I had to work :frowning:

Sunday, we drove to Birmingham to see Mark Knopfler play the LG Arena - it was awesome. My son (18) was going to his first big concert, and was fascinated. I was just blown away, I had seen Dire Straits in '86 and seeing Mark Knopfler live in the UK was one of my big dreams.

And I did it.
