Joe Dawg cracks me up! Cool name for a cool critter!
Back from class by way of Baltimore. I decided to run up to Clayworks Supply and get some more clay and glaze plus the wax I kept forgetting to get. My kiln was down to 725 degrees about an hour ago - I probably won’t be able to empty it till tomorrow. Oh well.
Class was good. I trimmed the three pieces I threw last week, then I glazed the 13 pieces that have been fired already. Unfortunately, one of the school kilns is down - the computer is on the fritz. So our works may start backing up. We shall see.
Gonna go to work tomorrow for about 4 or 5 hours, so that we can have our web pages uploaded on Tuesday. When pigs fly!! Maybe it’ll happen. Which is why I’m going in tomorrow. Sounds like fun, huh?
John is the Mischeivious, Enabling Cop on the block. The man that showed up at the block party with a cooler full of jello shots. The man that showed us all how to put a flame to tequila, drop the shot into something I cannot remember, and drink it.
The man that somehow remains sober while handing others things to drink.
I like John. Plus, it’s good to stay friendly with the Investigator/Detective, I always say.
The best part for us, is that John lives just over on the next block, so I should stay DUI-free, eh? I asked Pam, one of our Asst. Principals whose husbanf works with John if I should be scared going to a party at John’s.
Pam said, not not scared. But arrive thirsty.
So, smart dopers would not look for me to post here in the morning.
I way overslept today. Getting up at one on a Saturday really ruins the weekend!
Kaiser finally got around to billing me for my hospital stay last August. And payment is due in 10 days or else!!1!1! They waited 14 months for payment and now they want to be paid RIGHT NOW? Yeah, yeah, what took them so long, anyway? I got the ambulance bill right after I got home from the hospital.
The neighbor’s puppy just barely missed getting hit by a car just now. And now they’re screaming at each other. I can’t wait until they’re gone.
Sneakin’ in to say the party’s in full swing. I’ve had tree marthoonies. I’m buzzed! WHEE! I foresee tree or so more more marthoonies… I think Ima gone be in pain tomorrow. WHEE!
Did I tell y’all I have a meeting Monday afternoon about a possible new contract for work that could mean several hundred thousand dollars? WHEE! Ten percent of whatever the contract brings in is mine, cause that’s part of my deal… WHEE!
BTW… Joe Dawg says thanks for all the birthday wishes. Ok, so when I told him, what he did was give me a slurp on the nose, but that’s Chee-huah-huah for thanks. I know. I speak fluent Chee-huah-huah.
Don’t worry Taters, I still love ya’, I’ve just been busy.
One of the things I’ve been doing is building another deck for our new hot tub.
That little building off to the left is the ‘shed’ I built last summer and just got electricity run to when we wired for the tub.
Inside the shed is our kiln that we bought last December. We hope to get power to it before its one year anniversary, which means I need to finish wiring inside, and a few other things, like a floor, interior walls, lights, etc.
Yesterday we drove down to Eugene to watch #1GrandSon play football. It was their homecoming, and he was Homecoming King, but he didn’t get to strut his kingship at halftime 'cause he was in the locker room. They lost, but he scored 2 touchdowns. It’s a shame really. Besides #1GS, there are 2 or 3 other really good players on the team. The rest of the boys, well, they need coaching they aren’t getting.
We got home about 12:30, sat in the hottub for about half an hour, and got into bed about 1:00am.
Tonight we’re hosting #3GrandDaughter (9), and #2GrandSon (3), for dinner, etc, so that TheGirlChild and Hubby can go on a date.
Well, we know where the party is when we go visit Bumba!
No, swampy, you sound rather serious and sober. Congrats on the possible contract! Do we get presents if it comes through?
I’ve added a coat of paint to my pumpkin ghosts, cooked din-din, and done some cleaning. Also kinda watched Father of the Bride 2 and am currently watching National Treasure because the DVDs I ordered from Overstock last week came today. Got a whole motley collection: Dead Again , Emma, Alex & Emma, Mansfield Park, Grosse Pointe Blank, Galaxy Quest, Metropolitan, and Barcelona. They’re my birthday present to me. (More than a week early, but I’d borrowed Emma from the library about a million times and decided it was time to buy it. Prices were good enough that I decided to go through my list and see what else looked reasonable. So I’ll be rewatching these over the next few days…
Dinner was chicken with apple/onion relish, Cajun rice (thanks, Mika!), and asparagus. Oh, and 1/2 of a little mango.
Gotta paint the ghost faces and spiders on the pumpkins…
Cheez you guys are all so nice.
I was so chronically UnCool in high school and college that it is permanently branded into the depths of my reptile brain. I must just be fooling the Cool Kids.
I am an uncool kid with a cool job.
Today we had two homicides. Urrgh. The fellow (the fellow is a laaa-dy) took one and I took the other. We finished cutting by 2 and I ordered pizza to be delivered. The pizza place hadn’t delivered to us before. “You know, the city morgue” has a full. stop. effect on some people’s brains. I had to say, “Now do you want to know what kind of pizza we want?”
They delivered it to the public health door. Walloooons. I had to go fetch it. But man it was good. I paid for it becuz I’m the attending and make more money. The fellow and the forensic tech were grateful. So was I. For pizza.
We dictated our cases and printed out our photos and made our CDs and were out of there by 5:30. Bleh, as long a day on a Saturday as any weekday. The rule for Saturdays is you work until the work is done. This motivates rapid action and many Saturdays we get out before noon. Not today.
But hey, I’m still breathing and writing to the Dope, right?
tired gabby
not as cool as they are right now (37 degrees)
Ummmmm…I’m pretty sure most Dopers never met the definition of cool in high school or college and repurposed their definition once they grew up.
It amazes me that you can do your job. I’ve been reading your squicky thread without clicking most of the links. (Yes, I’m a wuss…) Science is fascinating, but applied science - especially when it involves cut up people - makes me woozy.
Sipping a beer and about to continue with the pumpkin painting…
I wouldn’t concern yourself with that. This is the Dope. We have redefined “cool.” (Well, by “we” I mean “everyone else” since I haven’t been here long enough nor have any been particularly “cool” enough to count for much) For myself, on the Richter Scale of Cool, I was a gnat fart. I was so un-hip my legs could go wandering off by themselves. I was an olive in a bowl of Cheerios. A slice of head cheese on a steak sandwich. A tricycle in a pack of Harleys. You get the picture. I don’t even have a cool job.
I’m still allowed to hang out here though, so maybe some cool will rub off on me.
[Medical lingo]I need 355ml of Yuengling, stat![/ML] I just love working for a company that decides Halloween weekend is the time to cut payroll. The store is trashed, I’m sick and dizzy with stress, and I gotta do it again tomorrow.
Hi Joe Dawg! swampy, he looks like the one that picks fights with Roxy the Great Dane at the dog park.
Taters, I hope it goes well with SIL, MIL, and Tatershair
MBG, I knew a cop like that when I was younger. He was our connection for moonshine.
Nice hot tub, Bumba. Do you need a #3 grandson?
gabby, we think you are swell, but we don’t want to meet you in a professional setting for a while.
Well, the Halloween party was loads of fun, and the litter box cake was a big hit. It was fun sitting at the table where all the goodies were spread out drinkin’ a wine cooler and watching everyone’s face when they walked in and saw it. The finishing touch was the plastic/rubber cat with his left rear foot in the box. And all the cat people said the cat toy buried halfway in was very realistic.
The downside of the evening was the hockey game - the Snakes got their asses handed to them. 8-3.
6 of us played the card game “Apples to Apples” which is loads of fun. My sides are going to hurt tomorrow from laughing so much.
Good early Sunday mornin’ y’all! Yes I am up. I couldn’t sleep anymore. Then again I was in bed a little after nine last night and what with the time change and all I figure I slept about nine hours. Guess that’s why I’m up. Gonna go make some liquid caffiene in a minute. I might even roust ol’ y’all know who in an hour and make a plea for him taking me to breakfast. Or not cause he looks so cute all asleep.
Hmmm…I never wanted to be a cool kid. Probably just as well because I was as far removed as you could get from cool and still be on the planet.
I can’t believe it’s Sunday afternoon already, the weekend has nearly gone and I barely noticed it go. Yesterday I had a really great day out driving tanks and stuff, and shooting things. Lots of laughs with some friends, but I really ache this morning 'cos those tanks are pretty hefty things. More weight-training required!
Last night I went to see some other friends for a little celebration - three of the guys had been to get their legs waxed for a charity thing. Jeff’s father died of prostate cancer earlier in the year and he wanted to do something for the prostate cancer charity…and the whole leg-waxing thing came up in conversation earlier in the year when we were sorting out Rocky Horror Show costumes. So we persuaded him and a couple of friends to go and get waxed, just in time for the second visit of the RHS to our area and an RHS theme party this coming Friday.
They wanted to raise as much money as possible, originally Jeff said he’d have his legs waxed if they raised £250 then when Rico and GreenDave joined in the target went up to £750 for them all to get it done. When they started getting close to that amount, Jeff said he’d have his back waxed as well if the target reached £1,000 - and on Saturday evening they went out to celebrate (curry and beers, of course) with freshly waxed limbs and a total of £1,085 in the pot.
Today I was planning on enjoying my extra hour in bed snuggled up with the cat, but I seem to have slept through it. Never mind, so far I’ve been out to do grocery shopping and got my travel pass renewed so there’s no excuse for being late for work tomorow. This afternoon I’ll be studying and drinking lots of tea!
Hey, Scarey, I meant to tell you earlier that I really like your sig…
I’m up and have cleaned a bit and am off to church. Then off to the park to make sure that all the decorations look OK for this afternoon. And then back to do stuff at home and maybe to make a quick grocery run…
Sorry about your Snakes, SCL.
The work stuff sounds like it stinks, doggio. Seems silly to cut payroll right before the holidays…?
We had a good time at dinner yesterday and our friends liked the restaurant. They told us that we always find cool new places to go to.
Today’s plans call for putzing around the house; laundry, cleaning up, etc. Nothing exciting by any stretch.
I was never part of the cool clique in school. I was one of those kids who fell in the middle. I was poor, though, so I couldn’t afford to go do all the stuff the cool kids did. All the same, I was friendly with everybody, regardless of where they fell on the social scale. Still, I’m so glad to be an adult. It all seems silly now.
It’s absurdly windy out and a mere 6°C outside. Haven’t gone for coffee yet.
Last night I wanted to go shopping and get it all over with but with the way the wind had kicked up something fierce I decided to hold off and instead just went and bought some Subway instead. Played more F.E.A.R. Extraction Point. Ended up finishing it. Creepy, yes, but disappointingly short – not worth the $40 it cost. 6 hours of gameplay tops, and that’s taking your time. It was almost as short as HL:EP1. The new weapons were nice. The new creatures were not. The creepiness factor was definitely up there though, which is probably its best mitigating factor. Guess I’ll have to wait for HL:EP2 for my next new gaming fix.
Gotta do laundry today. Yay. Small load this week though, so that’s good.
