Jeans on the line, old hutch brought upstairs and it’s been wiped down for crud. As soon as it’s all dry, I’ll start at it with the Old English. It’s at least 50 years old, and it looks it. But it will be perfect for stowage of yarns. It’ll have to be - I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.
MOOOOOOM does the hutch understand Old English better than Modern English?
We’re all purtified and ready to receive guests. We shall all gather elevenish for adult beverages and munchies to be followed by a New Year’s feast. A good time shall be had by all and with any luck by around twoish everybody will be gone. Gracious as a host ain’t I!
ha ha **bear **you so funneeeee!! Go to my FB page and see the results. I am impressed!
Happy new year!
Picking and grinning with ths hillbillies last night was fun. The black eyed peas are on warm and it’s just about time to wash the turnip greens and get them on the stove to simmer. We’re not eating as early as swampy and them but we’ll be good to go about 1:30.
New Year’s Eve mosh pits are not for the weak!
Happy New Year! It’s been exhausting and hectic for me so far, but it hasn’t been unhappy.
::raises hand enthusiastically:: I LURVES me some Tom Lehrer
Yeah. Both of that. I slept right thru the ball drop. Go me.
My first BLURF of the New Year. Let’s celebrate!
Happy new year, mumpers!
I am having a relatively lazy day today. We had a fun night at the pub, got home about 1am and then watched a film and drank some wine. Consequently we were not early risers today…but that doesn’t matter as we had no plans anyway. So far I have folded and put away the laundry in the bathroom, washed another load, and have peeled and chopped veggies for tonight’s dinner.
As I have time to do it, tonight’s dinner will be roast beef with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds, peas, carrots and parsnips. With proper gravy, none of that gravy granules stuff. I predict we will be stuffed later.
Yeah, I got up late today too.
I might work on crafts later.
Happy New Year everyone. I hope this a good year for all of us.
I slept in until 8:00 this morning, but I didn’t go to bed until around 3:00. New Year’s Eve was quiet. My husband and watched a movie, had a drink, and then he toddled off to bed. I stayed up and it’s a good thing because my son needed me to unlock the front door. He had gone to a party, but one of his friends didn’t drink, so they opted to come home. He didn’t get home until about 2:40 this morning. He had a great time.
Not much on the agenda for today; some tidying and perhaps a trip to the grocery store. I’ve got some prime rib eye steaks defrosting for dinner tonight.
It’s work day tomorrow.
I was sure I wouldn’t do better than a B in at least one of those classes, actually.
My smoker is in its seasoning cycle. When the kitchen timer beeps, I add hickory chips. Tomorrow, I buy meat! That’s the way to start a new year!
Meanwhile, I’m working on yet another lap robe and watching NCIS.
Happy new year all!
Irk wasn’t too irksome last night, and it only finished 1.30, which is positively early. Had football today- 1pm start I was told, then at 11.05, I get a text saying ‘come at 12’… lucky I was already breakfasted and I live close… I got up early 'cos I was half expecting something like that to happen.
Aside from a new steward showing up drunk and trying to start a fight with another steward , the footy was OK. Soggy and windy though, so I’m glad it’s an early finish. There’ll be virtually no irk for the next month though. Back to the job hunt proper again come Monday… Again. sigh
Thanks for inspiring me to make devilled eggs today! Lunch shall be a ham steak with sautéed onions - shoot, as long as I have the eggs out, I might fry one up in the pan, too. In which case, I’m sensing a nap may happen afterwards (that’s a lotta food for me, even with planning to save half the ham for tomorrow’s office lunch) especially since its a gray, rainy ooooooky day and I always find those nap-inducing. Especially on trumpets days off work!
Besides, I’ve been semi-productive: got my bills in order with enough left for bus fare next week, and even more food if I decide I don’t want what’s in the pantry/fridge/freezer, which is a nice feeling; plus I organized the next batch of bills for next paycheck and feel pretty Ok about having a handle on all of them, which is also a nice feeling. The dishwasher is humming away and I already dried the hand-wash stuff. There’s a half-forgotten pumpkin chilling on my balcony I need to get around to eviscerating so I can toast the seeds, and for some reason I kept putting off candying those three damn tangerines in my fridge over the Xmas break so I really ought to get to those today or this weekend.
For some reason, the pumpkin and tangerines both got filed into the “want done but don’t want to DO” procrastination file, even though neither one is a particularly unpleasant or arduous task. Anyone ever do that: put off doing something you actually do want to do, just … Because … I dunno, reasons?
Speaking of unpleasant arduous tasks, I do need to clean out the litter box today. Hmm, maybe I can dump it snd then stick it outside and let the rain do some of the work for me. Of course, the rain just stopped!
revives the MMP
It’s my sister’s birthday today and I have to wait until after supper for cake! I want cake now dammit!
We have feasted, guests have departed, kitchen is cleaned up, and I even had a little bit of a nappy poo in my recliner. Life is good. A good time was had by all and best of all, enough leftovers for tomorrow’s dindin.
All in all, it’s been a nice New Year’s Day at da cave.
That is barbaric!
:dubious:
Dinner is finished and just the last bit of clean up left. Around eleven, I was informed that there would be three more guests, so I put some sweet N.O.T.s in the oven and got some apples out to fry. It was all good and as soon as the dishes are finished, nappage shall ensue.
The smoker has been seasoned. Yay! Laundry is in and put away. Shrimps are thawing for supper. All in all, it’s been a relaxing day. For me, anyway. **FCD **was making lots of noise in the basement while I was afghaning. But he’s all showered and dressed for chillage.
Even Modern English is getting kind of Olde these days…& I never understood melting with them.
You fry em up in the pan & bring home the bacon; do you wear Enjoli?
Home from swimmin’; twas fun, but a wee bit nipply out there today.
I think I’ll recline the night away. MWAH!
