Happy New Year, folks. It’s 2005 now here in New Zealand. May this new year bring you all hope, joy, peace and health.
Beat me to it, Ice Wolf. It’s 12.09 am, I’m loaded on champagne and watching the fireworks, and a very happy New Year from rainy Aotearoa, first to see 2005.
2005 is still 17 hours away, but at the stroke of midnight, I’m hoping to be n the arms of a rather wonderful fellow. Some of you have my number. Please do not use it. :Glares pointedly at Ice Wolf with a rather large snow ball in hand:
A happy new year to all of you. To those of you for whom 2004 stank, and that includes one of my closest real life friends, may you say “Good riddance!” to a bad year! To those of you for whom 2004 was rather good, may 2005 be even better!

I never, ever talk back cheekily to a lady with a sharp-shootin’ snowball in her hand. Yes, ma’am!
Good t’ see ya, Siege! Stay warm, love.
It’s still just noon here. Sorry for the slight hijack but seeing that you’re already in 2005 reminds me of a guy in the U.S. that me and my mates used to call when we were drunk and pester him (in a friendly manner, of course). He was very upbeat when we called him on New Year’s to tell him he ‘had to stop living in the past, man’, but he must have moved or something, because he seemed to change his number shortly afterwards and we couldn’t find his new one.
If you know someone in Oregon City, Oregon called William Gates, tell him I’m sorry and that he’s still in the minds of his Icelandic friends. Happy New Year to you all, and God bless us every one.
It’s just on an hour to go until 2005 here in Sydney. It’s a lovely night - calm, clear and a pleasant temperature (about 20 degrees).
Good to see you, too, lady!
Oh, it’s due to hit about 15º C here today (60º to the Americans), so staying warm will be no problem. Besides, I believe that fellow’s more than willing to do the job.
They’ve just had footage of the fireworks in your part of the world. Happy New Year indeed!

It’s an hour and 20minutes into 2005 and I finaly have a computer that works!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYY.
Pardon my MY joviality! My computer crapped itself over a week ago and this afternoon my brother lent me a fill in. We went to the zoo for a NY-eve kid-friendly concert and then it PISSED down.
So we visited some friends and then wentto the beach to watch the very short lived fireworks.
I’m sure we all hope for a good New Year for ourselves. I’m equally sure all our hopes and wishes are with the victims of the tsunami.
It is very hard to think about wishing Happy New Year when so many are dying or have died.
The best wish is hoping that those in need have their needs met and those without eventually find comfort.
Well that is my wish anyway.
Please donate.
Nice to see you again, calm kiwi: haven’t seen you around much lately {how’s the stalker?} - if you haven’t been keeping up, before the operation I used to be Middlecase.
Hey matey, good to see you again.
Can there be any NY’s wish that doesn’t wish anything and everything for those in SE Asia??? Were you just not watching?
It’s cool to see you too. I just hoped that the first NY’s wishes/enquiries were for those lost. I was missing for longer then I liked …but shit!!! it is sooooooooooooo hard to say happy new year when thousands and thousands of people are dead.
Happy New Year, all you futuristic people!
Hey, well, at least I’m in the middle and get to have New Year before the USA and Canada people!
Have a drink or ten on my behalf, won’t you?
It’s now about 1.5 hours into 2005 in the south eastern part of Australia.
So far, it’s very nice. Quite warm here in Melbourne - I was down the beach to ring in the new year, and watched the fireworks from the shore. They bay was calm, with little wind and even at midnight, it was still pleasently warm. Now at 1:30am, it’s still warm enough that I’m sitting here in a light cotton shirt and 3/4 pants and it’s very pleasant - I just looked it up - 22.4 deg C. Gotta love summer.
Nothing of any particular note has happened so far this year.
Bonne Année!
And to you Ice Wolf. And to all the dopers.
It must be almost time for the UK Dopers to pop the cork?
You too Ice Wolf. Thanks for this thread.
One hour in 2005 here. My hair stinks of ‘oliebollen’ and the smell and noise of fireworks is still sickening. But my friends and family are here, they’re a rowdy lot, but sweet… YES dear, I SAID sweet… so my new year is starting well.
Dopers: I hope yours will too and I hope the rest of 2005 will bring you - all over the world - peace, prosperity and health.
*:: Drinking to that:: * Cheers.
Happy New Year from Germany! It’s been 2005 for a whole 2 hours now! To get you all in the New Year’s spirit…here’s a photo I took out my window of my neighbors setting off enough gunpowder to torch the town!
Woah! What a cool photo! Thanks for that, Jman.
