Happy (3 hour late) new year from the left side of Canada!
Due to the nature of tonight,. it took me a fair amount of time to type this. hic
Ah to be a tee-totaller on New Year’s day - it’s like being the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. 
HAPPY NEW YEAR DOPERS!!!
Went outside just before midnight with a loaf of bread and a lighter. Guests of my neighbor, who does not allow smoking in his apartment, were outside puffing away.
“Hey, they’re gonna start the countdown in a minute!..What do you have bread for?”
“So I can bring food and warmth into the new year!”
“Cinnamon-raisin?”
“For a sweet year!”
One of our guests, E, also didn’t know the tradition, and opened the door during the countdown. So I had to go in, rather than keep letting cold air in, but I think it still counts.
