Happy Orthodox Jewish Man...

Err… Why?
It just seems like a slightly strange smiley to have next to Confused, Stick Out Tongue and the rest. And where are Annoyed Calvinist Woman, Cheerful Reformed Jewish Girl and Concerned Amish Boy?

I think it is one of those traditional things, just like the “wally”. Some (perhaps many) would say I over use the smilies, but I’ve never found a good use for the smilie in question. ;j [sup]Well, almost never.[/sup]

:concernedamishboy:

Speaking strictly as a poster here, I hate that smiley. It might be out-the-box traditional but there are damned few appropriate uses for it.

Oy. ;j

For once, we agree.

there are better smileys to be had.

So with all due respect to Jewish people and their religion, chuck it out. Hasn’t everyone been talking about a ‘barf’ smiley?

I always use it to signify:

“I hope a giant spider jumps on your head and sucks out your brains, leaving you a happy lobotomized idiot.”

;j

I also use it when I need to inform somebody they have crabs but not to worry about it.
It’s also useful for those times you need to tell somebody that their beret isn’t quite covering their ear hair.

Or

“nice toupee”

Or

“I think it’s time you took the earphones out, looks like you’re getting a brain tumor”
All in all I’d have to say it’s the most useful and versatile of the emoticons.

Ha! Thanks for making laugh after a long time.

This is actually a really good question. Everyone’s always saying “Why don’t we have a ‘pukey’ smiley?” So, why don’t we? I mean, I doubt I’d use it often (if ever; I try to limit my use of all smileys), but if so many people want one, why can’t they have one? Sure, you can’t make every smiley that gets wished for, but I don’t go a day without seeing someone talk about wanting a “pukey” smiley.

How about this:
h
o
r
n
k
!

Looks like that Guy from the Spin Doctors to me.

*I

Got a pocket full of

Krytonite, yeah*

The blowjob smily has relatively few uses, too. :o

If we voted, tho, I would retire the :wally . Banned in every forum but the Pit (except for possible joking). Named for a contraversy. Totally screws up line spacing.
I love my Star Trek smiley. ------> :dubious:

Because people would use it. I deal with enough vomit from my four-year old, without having to see the electronic kind when I’m on the SDMB for some amusement. The kind of idiots who over-use the “smack head” smiley would have a field day with that one.

I saw the title HAPPY ORTHODOX JEWISH MAN and came in expecting to see a thread about either the most intriguing or the most pathetic superhero ever created.

;j

I think it is suppost to be the blush smiley, and I would find it quite usefull, if it only looked like what it is meant to be.

It occurs that you can sing “Happy Orthodox Jewish Man” to the tune of “Lovely Rita Meter Maid”. The other lyrics wouldn’t make as much sense probably.

I use it to imply that the previous statement was very innocent. I don’t know if anyone else knows that is what I am trying to imply.

;j

Oh, I don’t know.

Happy Orthodox Jewish Man
May I inquire discreetly,
When are you free to
…?

I’m afraid my ignorance of Jewish culture will stop me there.

The smiley originally came about because a Doper requested it and producing it was somewhat of a creative challenge to the membership.

I’ve always thought it was unique, unusual, cute, even.

If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

You can also change your settings so that you don’t see smilies at all.

Nope, Concerned Amish Boy doesn’t work.
