This line has me puzzled, and it hasn’t been explained yet. I usually hear it from 133t hax0rs when they are trying to be intimidating…
I think the IP comment was to see if there was a matching IP posting on her board.
Personally, I think that there was nothing wrong with Anthracite’s comment. Perhaps, maybe, I could see a problem with it if the post had been to a total stranger, but Guin was already a member over there and already a friend.
I tink dis be blown way outta perporshun.
Two of my very favorite posters are fighting???
No no no no no. Stop this at once. You’re distressing me. What more reason do you need to desist?
Actually, if you did need more reason (which I can’t imagine), then: What GAD said, above.
I don’t think offense was truly meant by either of you, and a simple misunderstanding has become hugely overblown. Can’t we all just be friends?
C’mon; we’ll stand in a circle, have a group hug, and sing Kumbaya. Then we’ll realize how silly that is and all go have a beer. What do you say?
Frankly, the only thing I found out-of-line in Anthracite’s post was this:
Other than to serve as a not-so-subtle threat, I can find no purpose to it.
Since neither I nor Maeglin have been back here for 13 hours, and I said I was willing to accept Gadarene’s proposal for letting this drop, I can see no reason that people are obsessing over the IP thing.
OpalCat has it the most correct - right after the post in the other thread which spawned this one (if I can trust the time-stamps), someone (a non-member) started probing my Board to get access to the aforementioned Forum, which my server blocks all but Members from getting access to. It seemed a little odd that right after the post, someone tries so hard to get in, tries faking passwords, etc. It was posted not as a “threat” (the only possible “threat” being me reporting the person to their ISP with additional information about them), but as a question, meaning “Hey - are you the one trying so hard to see what I’m talking about over here?” Only the guilty party would know that I knew. FTR, I now know who the person is, and it most certainly is not Maeglin. I tried to be subtle about this, but if people are going to keep bringing it up, it makes me look bad if I just let this stay out as an open question.
My IP is 65.69.77.33, in case anyone cares. Yee haw.
This thread served its purpose IMO. Two posters who took offence at each other’s words came in, had it out, and are now at peace. The system works. If you want to ask me more about the IP thing, then mail me - it’s in my profile. I think I’m skating on thin ice as it is talking about this stuff here in the open.
Otherwise - why keep this thing going, if neither I nor Maeglin have a conflict anymore that we want to discuss here?
I’m still a little curious about what has other people so disturbed.
Neither *Anthracite nor I used strong or particularly vulgar language.
Nor did we lob personal insults back and forth.
I may be hopelessly insane and trapped in the private hell that is my mind, but I do not believe my tone of voice was anything south of neutral, with perhaps a few rhetorical exceptions.
So why do youse guys think we were fighting? If you think this was bad, I don’t want to see your reactions should I ever have to open up on someone full salvo.
I’d love a beer, Jodi, but I’m a little too secure with my masculinity to arse about singing Kumbaya. If you know what I mean.
Oh, and more than enough people have agreed that I am completely batshit for misreading Anthracite’s comment, so I see no reason to persist in going on about it.
i said it before, i’ll say it again:
i hate cats.
Very well, Maeglin, I do believe you now, and I am truly sorry that I misread your tone of your post in the other thread. I only came back at you because - well, because I felt like you were accusing me of being tasteless and shallow and callous, and that I was being so crass as to be “pimping” my Board. It really got to me because I had nothing but sympathy for Guinastasia’s torment over her impending loss, and was trying to help her in my way, above all else. And I will also try very hard to continue to not discuss the other place any more over here, except in reference to technical issues in ATMB.
I hope you believe what I stated my intent was in this whole thing.
