Yea my latest obsession is pink lemonade Jolly Rancher lollipops, good god if I don’t watch myself I’ll plow through ten a day! Its the only flavor beside green apple I like, which is why buying JRs is a waste you just end you giving away 75% of em.
And what the hell is the deal with those Jolly Rancher “sticks”? Too awkward to just pop in your mouth, so you have to break it into sharp mouth slicing pieces. Why not just make single flavor JR packs?
Dum-Dum lollipops - i LOVE the cream soda flavor. But it’s the same as the Jolly Rancher dilemma: I dislike most of their other flavors and they always come in mixed-flavor bags.
Yes! We have to buy many, many bags of See’s Peppermints every Christmas…and that’s never enough.
And on a completely different note…I’m surely not the only one who can eat Halls Mentho-lyptus cough drops like they’re candy, am I?
These days it’s Cinnamon Discs. Walgreens’ “store brand” Nice! has a 23.1 oz bag for less than $2 and I go through a bag every other month on average.
They’re milder than fireballs but do have that little bite that takes me back to junior high days. I’ve tried most of the ones listed so far and might go back to one or the other of them if my taste for these discs wanes. I don’t expect it to.
The cough drops thing makes me remember some little discs my aunt used to have that came in a little tin. Sharp! Having trouble remembering their name or the brand.
There used to be a candy called Regal Crown. It came in a roll, flavors included sour cherry and sour apple. Each piece was individually wrapped in wax paper. Apparently it’s no more, but while looking for it, I found Napoleon Sours. Their gimmick is a bit of sour powder in the center. They’re worth a try for sour candy fans.
Take 2 cups sugar, 2/3 cup corn syrup, 3/4 cup water and slowly cook to 310 degrees F. Let cool slightly, add 8 mL clove oil, stir (Don’t inhale the vapors created when stirring in the clove oil!), pour onto oiled cooky sheet and let cool. Break into shards and eat with care and reverence.
Oh- Suburban Plankton, I’ve been doing Halls or equivalent as candy since 1968.
For fans of lemon jolly ranchers, they have returned. Better yet, they have bags of only lemon ones.
I am eagerly awaiting getting my hands on my two bags of them this summer. I had my mom buy them for me from Wal-Mart as they aren’t available outside of the States. Wal-Mart was where they were first available for sale last month, but it might have expanded since the link above is for Hershey’s website.
They’re not quite the same kind of hard candy as most of the ones mentioned so far, but I like those Necco wafers, especially the dark gray or black ones, which have a bit of the same taste as those Parke-Davis discs.
Similar in taste and crunchiness are those Valentine Hearts things with the little sayings on them, but I have chipped two teeth in my life on those things so I tend to leave them be.
I miss those a lot. An internet search led to many, many people trying to find them. The lemon and cherry were my favorites.
I’ll eat lemon drops if they are sufficiently tart.
I have a mini-rant about Jolly Ranchers. The ones that are advertised as original flavors? Such a lie! There were no blue ones in the day. Grape, yes, but not the blue raspberry ones. Instead there were these wonderful pale yellow lemon ones. Really lemony and sour. They were the best of all and no longer exist.
If the ones you bought had been on the shelf for a while they’d get stuck between your upper and lower molars and you’d have to talk through your teeth for quite a while before they finally melted.
My husband has an addiction to Werther’s butterscotch.
because of my allergies and chronic post nasal drip hard candy is a life necessity if I don’t want permanent larangytis. nuts online is a great place for finding individual flavors and hard to find candies, and there are a few sites out there that deal with rare or hard to find candies.
My local co-op store is currently carrying rolls of all-chocolate-flavor Necco wafers, which I don’t care for, but not the real Necco rolls with different flavors mixed.
Also: Canada mints. Yum yum yum. The softer hard candy.
