Dang. So the ‘Lick my hairy nutsack’ option is probably out too, huh?
Well, I guess this is kinda moot since there’s already been a ruling, but I’ll answer my reasoning anyway.
Huh. Why is everyone trying to read my mind tonight? I thought I was being serious in the sense that that’s what it amounts to under certain circumstances.
Yeah, it’s a silly joke, the same as the other.
You mean from her interaction in the cafe thread? I thought I read that she wouldn’t be participating in the Pit thread which I took to mean that she won’t be reading it. If she doesn’t read the Pit thread, you’re saying she’ll put the two together and instantly understand it’s about her?
What if they changed the word to some other of the gross graphics in that thread? Would that be acceptable? If they did, 3. surinam toad, that’s all good?
Don’t know yet.
Oh, and the OP has already stated that this was about the junior modding which already got a smack-down in the other thread, so sorry if I’m hijacking.
Huh. I never thought so. I’ve never used the phrase, but I generally thought of it a good-natured in-joke, acknowledging Opalcat’s original point and skirting it in a humorous manner.
But I guess I can see where one could interpet it as negative snark as well. It just never ocurred to me before now.
I do think it’s pretty likely she’d easily figure out the word “buckeye” is aimed at her once she notices it replacing “Hi Opal” on lists. How could she not?
But my point wasn’t that she would know people were aiming the term at her. Even if she somehow missed that, what I was talking about was the repeated use of a term known to bring repugnant imagery to her mind, in part because it brings that imagery to her mind. Whether she herself knows why people are using the term, the attempt to bring the imagery to her mind is in fact an attack on her. Doing it repeatedly (or encouraging that it be done repeatedly) is harrasment.
I don’t know if it’s all good, but it wouldn’t be a case of harrasment against Opalcat.
-FrL-
Shouldn’t that be “Lick my hairy nutsack, you crazy ass bitches.”?
I actually don’t think it was. When I read it, I always assumed a wink and a nod to her…not an insult.
I gotta say though…everytime I hear it from now on, it will be with a subtext of “Lick my hairy nutsack you crazy ass bitch”.
They can’t moderate it away. Even if I see any list of three, the third on the list will read in my brain as ‘buckeyes!’ You know? There is no such thing as Thought Moderators.
I can’t believe that a dispute over a cookie’s name has spawned a 647 posts long Pit thread and a secondary thread to boot.
I don’t know what you put in the recipe, guys, but it must be real good stuff.I should probably give it a try.
So it really was about that one image?
So the "lick my hairy . . ", that’s OK too then? Because that doesn’t include an image that grosses her out, or not one that we know of anyway.
But really, your logic points back that we shouldn’t be using something that grosses her out. . as opposing to images that gross other people out. If that’s not it, you’ll have to explain it a different way.
It’s because the “3. buckeye” thing is pretty much calculated to present a message something like “Haha, remember when OpalCat got all bothered over the name ‘buckeye’ and there was that huge resulting trainwreck and Pit monstrosity? Christ, OpalCat is oversensitive. Let’s teach her a lesson by repeating it from now on instead of the previous tradition that used her name. Fuck you, Opal!”. I can’t see any other motivation for doing so.
It’s not that you’re prevented from using the word “buckeye”; use it all you like in natural deployment. It’s that the intention here is pretty specifically to get on a certain poster’s nerves, which is jerkish and thus not approved of.
Well, it grosses me out, but since I’m not a speshul snowflake, tortured artist, board celeb, or wee tim’rous beastie who quakes at something that I’m fully aware is probably my own neurosis – and because I also find it freakin’ hilarious even though (or perhaps because) it grosses me out – I don’t plan on ranting in righteous indignation or reaching for the smelling salts. I’m funny like that.
Plus, if it’s kosher, I plan on using it myself, despite having no nutsack (hairy or otherwise) for anyone to lick. Unless I buy a bag of buckeyes, of course.
Ah, OK. . . thanks for the explanation. And I can see how some people might think that. I wouldn’t have that motivation. I wouldn’t want to mock her. I barely know who she is–mocking her wouldn’t give me any special satisfaction. I just really, really want her name off that meme. And I thought the buckeyes thing sounded better than the other alternative given in that thread. . . a few less swear words.
But heck, anything would do it for me. And the reason that I want her name off the meme is mentioned in that other thread. . . it makes her seem like royalty. . .like she has some special status here. That’s the reason that when she complained, I just sort of figured I must be missing something. . . that there was a redeeming quality that I missed. But if it was just a board meme that really had less to do with her than one that just took off for some reason, I’d really rather it have anything else than her name in it.
So no, my motivation wouldn’t be to mock her. It would be to remove her name from that meme in any way possible. And yes, we could stop using that meme altogether but it’s a very common one. . . making lists with only a couple things. And it’s just a silly board meme.
IIRC, Leaffan had a similar silly tantrum and we were all allowed to mock him by messing with our location fields. We’re unable to mock OpalCat. Shit, we mock people all the time on this board. What gives?
Also, one might think Opal could perhaps say a few words about this whole incident. I think her silence is annoying me more than annoying.
I think the Jr. modding aspect of this is pretty lame. But I also think the buckeye thing is a little mean spirited. Opal screwed up and got called on it. We all eventually get our pit thread. Hopefully we learn from that and move on.
I have not replied in that thread since making the comment, because i didn’t want to explain in it further hijacking it. After reading pages of the Opal pit I ran across that suggested tactic of harassment from the pit in that thread. I had to say something. The fact it sounds like a Moderator saying it is coincidental. Normally I would just point out it was rude. This time after the OpalCat Pit being a firestorm I got a bit harsh. I still stand by what I said about that phrase being used around the board other than in the pit. Claptree so sorry for being harsh with you.
I also listen to the Mods when they tell me something.
I thought the QED comparison funny, but QED might not. It’s in the Opal thread somewhere.
See, I don’t even think she was being a massive bitch. She was abrupt and tangential with the buckeyes thing (I’ve never heard of them, either), devilsknew got snappy, and then OpalCat got snappy back. Diogenes apparently thought the fire wasn’t big enough, so he added some gasoline in the pit, and all of a sudden we have pages and pages of a strange mix of disgusting links, lighthearted teasing, general craziness, and downright meanness and douchebaggery, basically because apparently, a lot of posters have pent up anger towards Opal because she… doesn’t say “please” and “thank you”.
IMO that’s a pretty lame excuse to pile on, and taking it out of the Pit is just pure assholery.
…yet.
Just wait for Ed’s NEXT big Pit announcement.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
No it wasn’t. It was just stupid (for lack of more descriptive adjective).
It was an inside joke that old-timers and newbies mightily latched onto, thinking they were clever and cute as they proceeded to run this instant cliché into the ground. It was a dippy fad that continues to limp onward and I always figured every moron who included it had some idiotic shit-eating grin on his face as he typed thinking “Gee! Look at me! I’m really part of the little group now!” Whereas the reality was most of us mentally subtracted 20 points from the poster’s intelligence quotient.
But now we’re all better since Opal was so thoroughly trashed for her unfortunate transgression whilst inquiring about peanut butter recipes. That’ll learn her.
Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your Nut o’ the Month club.
Might wanna read it again, Sport. It doesn’t say what you appear to think it says, cuz you got pwned.
And yes, I found that funny.
Fight for it among yourselves for my amusement.
