Folks, **Shodan ** has given us a shining path through the dark woods. If you’ve been following our story, you know that **Shodan **has announced that his notorious sig-line “Regards, Shodan” is intended to connote “Fuck you” on occasions, and on other occasions is meant as a mere friendly closing remark. Despite numerous complaints by me and several others which have been roundly ignored, complaints addressing the permission **Shodan **has been granted by TPTB to insult people grossly outside of the Pit, TPTB have ruled that **Shodan **may continue to use his sig-line freely.
Now since we have just had the rug pulled from under the feet of those who were formerly given to drop an occasional F-Bomb or twelve, I think we have to follow **Shodan’s **example and tell each other, when people need a F-bomb hurled in their general direction, a simple “Regards.” I think we’ll all understand what that means, in certain contexts. We can be creative, too. “Regards, sideways, with a rusty drill bit” for example, will leave its meaning fairly undisguised, I think.
So thank you, Shodan. And, as ever, my warmest regards to you.
I’m quite frankly astonished that anyone with a couple of brain cells would expect anything else than endless and pointless (because, you know, what the fuck are we supposed to do about it but pissing and moaning?). Fuck fuckidy fuck you and fuck.
Good catch. I’ve since re-thought both rash decisions. Not entering the pit, and not re-subscribing, I’ve since realized, are both part of Ed’s master plan to purge all of us free-loading “Charter Members” in the only way he can (since I think he could be sued for rescinding his offer to give us lifetime subsriptions to the SD for 15 cents per week.) So quitting the Pit and posting here as a guest actually suits **Ed’s **devious new policy and suits me not at all.

God almighty, are you still on about this? This is not some crafty dodge. Anything can connote “fuck you.” The queen saying, “we are not amused, good day” can be interpreted as “fuck off, asshole.” That doesn’t mean her literal words are code words or that they’re not acceptable as civil discourse. It’s just, ya know, how our native tongue works.
Are you really still clinging to the thought that “Regards” should be prohibited because Shodan once said he means to convey a variety of things with it, some not too nice? Let’s prohibit the entire English language then. It’s a loaded gun, man–just too dangerously open to interpretation. Sheesh.
Given the board’s decision that “buckeye” is code for “lick my hairy nutsack you crazy ass bitch” and therefore needed to be prohibited to spare Opal’s feelings I’m kind of surprised at the inconsistency.
Now hold it - **Shodan **has set that the ENTIRE phrase of “Regards, Shodan” is potentially used as an f bomb.
Just using Regards might leave part of it out. If Regards is Fuck, and **Shodan **is You - then it would be Regard Off! However, in some dialects the verb / noun / object / adjective order is different than that of The Pit’s English.
In Shodanese, it might be more appropriate to translate the idiom as, perhaps:
Go **Shodan **yourself!
**Shodan **off!
I need a good Shodan, or I might just lose it.
Go take a flying Shodan!
I personally intend to continue to tell those that need it to fuck off, or that they are being ignorant mother fuckers, but with flowerly language that will pass muster.
