 (good grief? Is your last name Brown? I could be Lucy. Let’s play football.) Who said Opal said? I was referring to the mods and junior mods around here.
The whole buckeyes thing is what I am enjoying, not taking pot shots at one narcissistic poster who’s offended at conventional nomenclature for baked goods. I fail to see how using the word buckeye as the 3rd item in a list is singling out Opal. If anything, it evolves the meme into another phase–something long overdue. It’s funny. Ok, it’s not hysterically side-splittingly funny, but how much of life is? Admit it, in a silly list of three, having the word buckeye as the last item is funnier than a salutation. It just is.
Generally, I eat store-bought buckeyes or those made by a co-worker or friend. This year I’m gonna try making them myself. Do I need a melon baller or can I use an ice cream scoop?
The part where he said that *buckeyes *was a way to take a shot at another poster, and not to do it in any forum other than the Pit. What poster other than **Opal **could he be referring to?
EDIT :
He did not say people couldn’t use the word “buckeye”. He said not to use “3. Buckeye!” in place of “3. Hi Opal!” You see the difference? One of those things I said, the other I didn’t.
Yes, you are right, as SkipMagic has confirmed. But, Opal’s sensibilities aside, we still have to tiptoe around the word. And if *she *has not complained, that makes even less sense.
IIRC, there were several threads by puzzled people asking about why all the Leaffan puns in location fields. By the end of its run, I think most people were in on it. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter.
We’re not allowed to use “3)Buckeyes” even in jest. That seems to be a prohibition on mocking her, although some would claim it goes beyond mocking and into harassment/jerk territory.
Indeed, you’re partly right. I do have an immature desire to see her enter the fray and continue the fireworks, but on top of that I would like to see her state her opinion on all this purely for clarity reasons.
Why would you have to tip-toe around the word? There’s no ban on the word; the one specific usage to which I put a stop to was only meant to harass another user–which is against our rules.
Being asked to refrain from one very specific usage in lieu of an equally specific in-joke is hardly my definition of “tiptoeing.” As far as I can tell, you can talk about buckeyes in the Buckeye state until the bucking eyes come home if you want to. Opal might find that objectionable, but if she isn’t raising a stink about it (and she isn’t) who cares?
I know how you feel. I used to think you had a fair bit of smarts in that head of yours. Of course, you can redeem yourself by explaining exactly how pointing out that making yourself a faux martyr to a cause that doesn’t exist is jerkish. i’m happy to be enlightened.
This, perhaps is the concept he was going for. If, indeed, as you suggest here, that if a thread about Buckeyes in the Buckeye state causes Opal (or anyone else for that matter) to object, I, for one, would hope that the mods/admins respond w/ “So the fuck what, don’t read it if you don’t want to”.
Shortened version, there is absofuckinglutely nothing wrong w/the word Buckeyes. I understand the mod’s issue wrt 1… 2… 3 Buckeyes. Which is different.
