Harris VP choice as she is the official presidential nominee of the Democratic Party for 2024

A friend who claims inside knowledge (she “knew” that Biden would announce today), says with certainty that it’s going to be Roy Cooper, NC governor. You heard it here first.

I hope not. Cooper looks like a forgettable dork.

I want Bernie Sanders, but I know he wouldn’t take the job, and probably isn’t the best choice.

I like Bernie but the age issue attaches to him too now. No way we ditch Biden because of age and replace him with someone else who is actually older. Sanders’ time has passed.

Well, I listed him also, but a very solid choice.

Why do people keep talking about Pete Buttigieg? He wasn’t qualified for the office based on being a small town mayor, and four years as Secretary of Transportation doesn’t cut it either. If people really want a LGBTQ President, they should be pushing Senator Tammy Baldwin, who would be an awesome candidate and President IMO.

Whitmer doesn’t seem to want the job and I’m not sure an all-woman ticket would be wise.

Sherrod Brown might be a good choice; he might not be able to bring Ohio itself into the winning column but clearly he appeals to Midwestern swing State voters. He’s 72, though.

What are Trump’s qualifications?

Buttigieg’s qualifications are he is a very apparently smart guy and well spoken with a long history of service to the government.

Won’t be Newsom because the electors have to vote for Prez and Veep from separate states.

Skimming Roy Cooper’s wikipedia article, there doesn’t seem to be a lot to judge him. He’s won multiple statewide elections in a very purple State, which is good. But there’s not a lot to say about his record in office, since the GOP-controlled legislature hasn’t let him do anything aside from vetoing their bills.

Summary

When he was first elected, he didn’t have any. How did that work out for us?

Moderating: Please keep this to Harris’s VP choice.

I’m seeing speculation about Cooper, too. The political timing, at least, is very good for him fsince he’s termed out this year.

Mayor Pete’s time is not yet here. His time is 2032.

Cooper would be an old, boring white guy. He might end up being the choice, but I think she should pick someone more interesting. And for the future of the party, let’s not pick any more old, old VPs – VPs should be up-and-coming Democrats, not old party stalwarts, IMO.

When the opposing candidate is a rapist, who is facing three different sets of criminal charges, doesn’t that change the traditional Dem calculus on this issue just a bit?

I like Cooper, but largely agree. Harris is going to come under a lot of pressure to pick a old, straight, white guy to “balance” the ticket. But anyone who thinks that she needs to be “balanced” in that way was never going to vote for her in the first place.

Kamala Harris shattered pretty much every ceiling except the LGBT one.

One of my more right-wing FBFs posted a picture of her TV, and said something like “NASCAR is being interrupted for this? Don’t they know we don’t care?” Ahem, would you say that if Trump was doing the same thing? Bet a lot of live televised events were interrupted a week ago yesterday evening.

I tend to agree. The Dems need to be more bold now. Doing the same-old thing with a milquetoast ticket won’t do it for them. They have some catching up to do and not a lot of time to do it.

Go big or go home.

How about Sen.Warnock? An all-black ticket would be a bold move, but he’s a proven swing State winner. And he’s a Pastor, so would make a dramatic contrast to Trump’s moral shortcomings.

Thats a great choice. We can only wait and find out.

Shapiro is Jewish. I voted for him and will again. An outstanding leader. But I think we need to consider all the realpolitik implications for this race. A ticket with a woman of color with Asian ancestry at the top of the ticket and a Jew as VP may not be the wisest political choice.

I hope this goes without saying, but I don’t support the sentiments that would make this dangerous. Again, I enthusiastically support and supported Shapiro, and I have been a long-time fan of our VP. But this election is so important we have to make no political missteps.

It’s also why I think Pete would be a dangerous choice, and I would be thrilled with him as our VP (or president).

The only thing that matters is beating Trump. Period.
