Harry Potter OotP IMAX: Any list of which theaters?

Living near Baltimore, the only accessible IMAX screens are at the Maryland Science Center and two Smithsonian sites in DC, and those all only shows educational films.

However, when the new Harry Potter is released, we will be vacationing in Las Vegas, where a quick search tells me there are two IMAX screens: Luxor and Palms. Looking at their current show lineups, Luxor looks like it might be just the educational films, but Palms is currently showing Spiderman 3 IMAX, so chances are it will play there.

But we’d love to know for sure. Is it too early to see a list of IMAX theaters that are receiving the movie? A quick google and a fast look at Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet don’t give me any results, so I’m guessing it’s just too soon to whip up fervor over which IMAX screens will be showing the movie in July. Does Luxor ever show popular IMAX films, or is it just the (admittedly amazing) science lineup?

If there is not yet a listing of theaters carrying the IMAX print, when might there be?

I know there’s an IMAX somewhere in the DC area that shows movies. I thought it was one of the Smithsonians. I know because one of the women from work was calling on Friday trying to get tickets to Spiderman. I’ll have to ask where it was at.

http://www.si.edu/imax/ - Looks like Spiderman is at a Smithsonian theater out in Chantilly. That’s a bit of a drive. Especially when I live near BWI. But still, interesting to know, and probably closer than any of the PA venues.

Imax Corporation’s Web site, will post the list a couple of weeks before the film opens. It will almost certainly be showing at the IMAX theater at the Palms in Vegas. That theater has shown almost all of the Hollywood films released to IMAX theaters.

You’re right that it probably won’t show at the Maryland Science Center or either of the Smithsonian’s downtown museums. It may show at Dulles. That decision may not have been made yet. I’m going to see Spider-Man 3 there tomorrow. I’ll ask the manager.

The next closest commercial IMAX theater that will definitely be showing *Harry Potter * is the UA King of Prussia 16 near Philadelphia. It’s an easy two-hour drive from Baltimore. I’ve done it several times.

How do I know about all this stuff? I am, AFAIK, the only journalist in the world dedicated exclusively to covering IMAX and other giant-screen theaters and films. Really.

I have considered the trip to King of Prussia a few times in the past, which was easier when I was living in Harford County MD. Yet to do so, but it does seem like a fairly easy trip. Mostly just 95, right?

And again, I love this board. An IMAX dedicated journalist? You don’t find that just anywhere.

95 --> 476 --> 76. Get off at the KOP exit just before the Turnpike. The theater is on Mall Blvd. just outside the KOP Plaza.
