The catio is open at the top. The cats can get out if they really want to. New cats will have to be watched.
(Before the catio – or even the new deck and the roof – Creamsicle liked to go up onto the roof. After the deck and the roof, it was easier to get her down.)
We’re very careful. One of the charges was for $46 and change to the Democratic Republic of Congo (country code CD), and the other one for about the same amount was to a place that sells sexy women’s clothing. Anyway, card cancelled, which means I’ll have to update all streaming services and Amazon and probably a few other places that I’m not remembering. Aw crap, the car insurance and the newspaper.
So less disastrous today. They had 4 Blueberries in training. They won’t last. I stopped at Ace and bought some feed for the vermin feeder, and stopped at Teeter for some catfish nuggets, since I had a gnawing and a craving for catfish.
There’s a couple of complex cameras, mainly to watch the grill and the dumpster.
Isn’t being psychic part of the job? Or is it psychotic? I get those two mixed up a lot.
But there’s always enough players for Calvinball!
But there’s nothing more entertaining than Russian dash cam videos.
Pro tip: As you’re making all those updates, also make a list of them for next time. Because there will be a next time.
Nowadays I’m not sure how much good “being careful” is. You buy something at e.g. Target, and 2 years later somebody successfully breaks in and steals Target’s record of your purchase and card info then a year later somebody else uses it to buy [whatever] from [wherever]. Not a damned thing you can do about that except not use credit cards at all.
Probably half my YouTube watching are those. A guilty pleasure for sure.
In FCD’s case, it was the sheriff’s dash cam that saved his butt. The other driver and the witnesses swore FCD ran a red light. Dashcam proved otherwise. I wonder - do any auto manufacturers offer such cameras as an option or are they strictly aftermarket?
After the first 3 compromises, I made a spreadsheet of all accounts paid via VISA, including all login and password and account numbers. And yes, the spreadsheet is password protected.
Here’s how you use up all your scrap yarn:
I made it up as I went along - and it’s mine, all MINE!!! Just the right size for me on the recliner. It shall be a cozy winter.
Otis is at the groomer and I’m re-watching Pride and Prejudice for the gazillionth time. This production was made in 1980 - I wonder how many of the actors are still alive…
I know Tesla does. I don’t know of any others, but I’m not an expert.
And that does look like a very cozy blankie. Pretty too.
My late wife was an avid knitter. Lotta sweaters, some blankets, the occasional gloves or mittens.
She once knitted a sweater in a dark blue about like the large panel near the top of your pic. It was going to have inset sleeves where the sleeve tube has sort of an attached epaulet or tab that drapes over the shoulder and joins the top of the back, the top of the front, and the neck band. The back, front, neck and one sleeve came together perfectly. She was knitting the second sleeve up from the wrist and ran out of that color just about where the sleeve ended and the “epaulet” would begin. No more such yarn could be had from anywhere. She was mightily pissed.
So she got a similar gauge and feel of yarn in a sort of medium oatmeal color and proceeded to finish the sweater. She got more compliments on that one sweater with the one off-color “epaulet” than on her next 3 sweaters combined. A total flub that turned out to be a hit.
Bottom line: monochrome is much overrated when knitting or crocheting.
I have foiled Ms Peach’s latest dastardly ploy. She liked to wait until I was working at the computer then sneak under my chair and shove her squeaky ball under the couch. Whine until I moved the couch to retrieve said ball. Rinse, repeat. Well, I stuck a board under that end of the couch so the ball doesn’t go there anymore.
Short work day. That happens on Firday when you are capped at 40 hrs/wk and work 8:30-5 Mon-thurs. I’m not required to get in at 8:30, but I like it. Extra half hour makes getting the museum ready to open easier, plus the whole leave early on friday thing.
The very first afghan that I made - criminy, it must be 55 years ago!! - I misread the pattern and didn’t buy enough yarn, so I had to buy another color, and, unfortunately, I bought a different kind of yarn. It looks nice (yes, I still have it) but when I laundered it, the bands shrunk at different rates, so it never lay flat. It has since become a dog blanket. And I learned how to read a pattern correctly and be sure to buy everything of the same dye lot. Tho with acrylic yarn all of the same manufacturer, dye lots are no longer an issue.
Thanks - it’s an idea that worked out well. I’m pleased.
Otis is home and clean. However, it required 2 groomers to deal with him, so it was a pricier than anticipated. But he’s less scraggly looking. And he smells a LOT better.
Supper tonight will be cod and whatever veggies I pull out of the freezer. Laundry is done, chewed up bits of dog toys have been vacuumed up. Chillage shall ensue this evening.

The house cleaning company was here this morning: the siding and windows look great! Yay! First time in 5 years for the siding; first time in at least 11 years for the windows. The three-man crew did a great job, and were done in just over 2 hours. Helps that it’s a small house with fewer than a dozen windows.
At one point, while the side of the house with the Fios box was being pressure-washed, I lost connectivity. Rebooting the router (more than once) didn’t help. I went outside and checked the box as well as I could: it’s locked up, but none of the cords/cables seemed to be loose. I called Verizon and went through their automated “help” – which didn’t (plus it had intermittent trouble hearing me and registering button presses) – and 25 minutes later I was finally in a queue to talk with a technician. They gave me the option of getting a callback vs staying on the line: normally I’d just wait, but because I still needed to deal with the house washing team I opted for the callback…which I got ~10 min later, but then I got disconnected almost immediately. I used my work cell phone as a hot spot for my work laptop for a little while, so I could get a few things done while I calmed down, then I called Verizon again: this time, at every opportunity for a voice response I said “I want to talk with a person.” That worked amazingly well! Turns out I’d completely overlooked the troubleshooting step of resetting the Fios optical network terminal (ONT) inside the house: thankfully, that did the trick.
I’ll be logging off and heading out at around 4pm, to have a very early dinner with HusbandBFF and his sister – who, after more than two decades, is also like family to me – while WifeBFF has a dialysis session. It will be good to get to see her while she’s here from WV to help; she goes back home either Sunday or Monday. I might get to see her again tomorrow: we’re tentatively planning for me to go to my BFFs’ place in the afternoon, if WifeBFF is feeling up to it. I have no plans tomorrow, so I’m fine with playing that by ear. WifeBFF’s oldest friend arrives from FL on Tuesday and will be here for two weeks, so they won’t need my help with the dialysis sessions until around Halloween.
I’m actually much better at sight-reading rhythms than notes/intervals. The required piece has a rhythmically tricky “amen” section at the end: I’m practicing that with a metronome!
Right now the Bailey FB memories are still bittersweet, but I know that by this time next year I’ll be happy to see them.
Not “Lips”?
Yes, this exactly!
It’s funny how I’ve let go of some things but not others. When I’m home watching TV and I get off the couch to pee, I no longer wonder if she’ll be sleeping in front of the tub…but when I’m at work and notice that it’s after 4:30, I still have an automatic, split-second thought of “how long as the dog been home alone?” It happened when I was leaving the grocery store on the way home yesterday, too. I definitely still have to remind myself that I can get home whenever I want. The weirdest thing is being able to work at the office all day and go out in the evening if I want! LOL!
On the flip side, the other day I realized that I no longer have a doggy excuse when I don’t feel like being social: no more “sorry to cut our conversation short but Bailey needs to go out” (when she really doesn’t) or “gotta go, I need to get home for Bailey” (when I really don’t)!
No, we tell them not to - the scent is overpowering to me. It’s just nice that he no longer smells like a dog!
Well, his appetite is definitely where it should be and he’s snarfing down wet and dry with equal gusto. We’ll be adding veggies, per the vet’s suggestion, and I’ve set up a subscription to his food and his flea/heartworm meds. FCD has ordered a water fountain for him, since he’s way too big to drink from the little kitteh fountain.
Oh, and he now knows when his daddy says “Bedtime” that it’s time to go to the crate. He may be willful, but he seems to be pretty smart. I’ll be glad when his training starts - next Sat.
Flyboy - what does it matter what you call him? Cats don’t respond unless they’re so inclined! Surely you know that!
Howdy Y’all! True to my earlier post, we have been RDOS today. I walked down to the mailbox and back, so at least I had some outdoor time. Been drizzly off and on all day, so a good day to be inside and dry. Now I will see whatup on teh intartoobz. That’s the news from swampland.
