Harvest Festival in the MMP

Yet when we crossed it, both southbound and north, there were hardly any waves, much to the chagrin of my spousal unit. He’d been looking forward to a dramatic crossing. He didn’t get one…

We finally got some rain - not sure when it started but I heard it when I woke a bit before 6. More rain plus a chance of coastal flooding thru tonight, and a lesser chance of precip tomorrow.

Apart from emptying the dishwasher, my main chore today is deciding what supper will be. Maybe I’ll do something with chicken. I have decided that ribs will be added on turkey day, so just sides TBD. FCD has to do a couple of quick chores ahead of (we hope) the yard crew finishing their part of the final installations and getting everything up and running again.

I may just search for something streaming to entertain me. Or maybe a new book? We shall see.

Happy Sunday!

Morning all. Got my requisite 8 hours of sleepage, have procured the Sunday NY Times and the week’s apple supply (got Cosmic Crisp this week to compare with the Envy apples I have been eating the past two weeks). Mowage is on the schedule but I think I will wait until after dining at the Metro Diner to do it and let it warm up some (which is a sure sign of Fall, up until now the last thing you wanted to do was mow in the afternoon). Outside of that watching tackleball and maybe doing some organizing are my major tasks for the day.

Dicey, not sure if it is a direct connection, but Five Guys is worth a train ride, IMHO.

Cupcakes, home-cooked is always delicious. And hope the hip gets to feeling better. Orthodox churches are always worth a look, been awhile since I have been in one.

Happy Vergering, swampy.

Sticky Buns, your in a tough spot between husband and mom, I think the headphones are a great compromise, hope Mom will use them.

FCM,

Well, tell him next time to take one of the small ships (the one I was on was 9,300 tons, maybe 1/10 of your cruise ship) and I can guarantee that he’ll get all the wave action he desires…

And think I will head over to the Mart of Wal pre-dining for a couple things once i have completed the morning internettin’ Have a good Sunday all.

I’ve never had the opportunity to just check out that kind of stuff at an Orthodox church. I’ve only been to them for weddings and funerals.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The only thing written in stone for today is to do a load of towels. I may head up to the big shopping center on Crosstimbers to check out a few things later.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Does that one cloud look like a fucking weasel screwing a carrot?” Nope, it’s a blanket of grey out there, can’t make out individual clouds!

Sharon was on the case straight away, and disaster was averted, ensuring a generous supply of Alpacalypse session IPA to keep us going all day (and night!).

He’s quite elderly for a ferret, and his back legs have all but given out so it takes him quite a while to get himself mobile. I suppose on Wednesday, he just didn’t have the energy and desire to do very much in a new environment, but on Friday he managed to get his legs going pretty well.

{{{{{shoe}}}}} glad you found time to stop by and let us know you’re kind of ok. We worry, y’know…

Looks like Calypso has made his mind up about you already! Congratulations

{{{{{JtC}}}} sounds like you could use a virtual hug too.

That sounds like quite a feast, I would be absolutely stuffed after all that! I hope your hip is less hurty today though.

{{{{{Sticky Buns}}}}} it is hard when you are in the middle of problems with all the people who matter to you. You’re right, you can’t fix everyone’s problems, and you should not feel it’s your job nor should you feel bad for expecting adults to sort things out for yourself. Buying ear protection for your mum is a good solution, I hope it works for her.

We are home from a fun trip to Welsh Wales, met up with our friend at the hotel and got to the festival venue just in time for the opening band. We stayed for a couple of hours before heading back to the hotel to check in, then got the shuttle bus back to the venue for the rest of event. Met up with some other friends, chatted to complete strangers, watched lots of good bands (and one we’d not bother with again), before getting on the shuttle bus which got us back to the hotel just around midnight. We had a glass of wine in the bar with the small crowd who were there, and eventually headed off to bed around 1am.

Check-out was 11am so we packed up and left, drove all the way round the traffic island to the hotel on the other side, and had a very decent breakfast there. The couple who organised the festival were there, we had a chat and hugs with them before we left to head home. The satnav said there were some accidents on the motorway route we had planned to take, so we diverted through some villages on the more scenic route before picking up the same motorway a bit further up. Got home in good time, the cats came to say hello, we have cleaned litter trays and I’ve paid the cat sitter.

I am going to have some sofa slothage time before I need to make dinner later. A very simple chilli is my plan for tonight, very little effort and it cooks in one pot. That sounds perfect for the end of a busy weekend.

I’m apprehensive about Goo and Abbey. I think Abbey’s maternal instincts will kick in fairly quickly, but it took Goo a very long time to warm up to Abbey. Goo is very food-motivated. So, we’re told, is Calypso. Things could get interesting. (She couldn’t steal Tonka’s food, but Calypso is a lot smaller than Tonka was.)

Good morning.

It’s currently 50°F and raining. We’re supposed to have steady light rain in the morning, tapering off to showers and clouds in the afternoon, with a high of 54°F.

[[[JTC]]] Please let us know how you’re doing, as you are able.

[[[Shoe]]] I hope things start to improve for you.

Day eleventy-billion of the crud…

I made split pea soup in the slow cooker yesterday, and it was delicious—just the thing for a cool, damp day. We’ll have more tonight for dinner and maybe even for lunch. I was going to make chocolate chip cookies, too, but couldn’t quite gather the energy. I did wash all our bedding, though.

Sticky Buns, it’s challenging being caught in the middle. I feel you’ve found a good solution, and I hope your mother uses it.

Sounds like the meeting with Calypso went well, Johnny. Yay for bringing home a new family member. There might be some cold-shouldering, or even a hiss or two at the beginning, but hopefully, it all be fine.

That’s about it for now. I’m going to finish my coffee, load the last couple of dishes in the dishwasher, and start my day. Please take care of yourselves. You all are a positive part of my day, and I look forward to reading the MMP to celebrate the good stuff or commiserate over the bad.

A opposed to Irish Wales or Tahitian Wales?? Color me confused.

Well, we had some excitement this morning. Otis was gnawing on me, so I threw him out. After 30 minutes or so, I called him, and kept calling him. FCD came home and called. I walked the section of fence closest to the house, and found 2 trees had fallen across it, giving him an easy exit. Dammit.

We drove around yelling. I put a notice on NextDoor, the neighbor helped FCD fix the fence, and just as we were about to start driving around, guess who comes walking up the driveway with a dead chicken in his maw… Our neighbor told us the folks across the street keep chickens, so FCD is over there apologizing and all that. The chicken has been dispatched into the garbage and Otis is sleeping like nothing happened. Stoopit dog.

So, how’s your day so far??

North Wales used to be viewed as very similar to being in England, there’s not much of a sense of it being another country or being particularly different. The only exception is that road signs are in English first and Welsh second.

We were in south Wales, down in the valleys where there’s a much stronger sense of Welsh identity. Road signs are in Welsh first, and English underneath, there are lot more Welsh flags on display everywhere, and you’re likely to hear more Welsh spoken.

Glad to hear that Otis came home (with a prize!) but sorry that he got into the neighbour’s chickens :frowning:

We’re having some proper fall weather today: grey and windy, with a forecast high of only 63°F. I kinda like it. :fallen_leaf: I slept with one of the bedroom windows open and was woken up by rain a few times – in the middle of the night and again early this morning – but the rest of the day will be dry; it’ll just look like it’s gonna rain.

Yesterday was very sloth-y. I watched a lot of TV (I’m up to S4 of The Wire), and put a couple of small holiday Lego sets from last year back together. Until I opened my Christmas storage container I’d forgotten how many of those I have! I figure I’ll reassemble all of the previous sets before tackling any of the new ones.

I’ve been ending my evenings with episodes of classic Frasier – to offset the grittiness of The Wire – and last night between shows I tried watching some of the Cubs/Brewers game on HBO because it was a league division series decider. I don’t remember the last time I watched a game on TV that didn’t involve the Yankees or the Nationals, and I quickly realized that when I don’t care at all about who wins I really don’t have the patience for the frequent commerical breaks. Heh. So, I probably won’t watch any of the league championship games but I might still (try to) watch some of the World Series.

After this post I’ll eat some lunch, then practice until it’s time to head to my 3:15 audition. It’s only 8 miles away, and traffic on a Sunday afternoon should be fine – the drive should take less than 20 min, barring any accidents – but I figure I’ll leave at 2:45 just to be on the safe side. I’d rather sit in the parking lot for 5 minutes than be late because I had trouble finding the place or something. Sometime this evening I’ll let y’all know how it went. :musical_notes:

We’re still on to see “A Doll’s House” in a couple of hours. Apparently, it’s an updated version of the original.

Roasting peppers from the niece’s garden. The hizzle smells very spicy at the moment. We’ll peel and core them and freeze them for later use.

Shockingly, I had to pay my first non-drug copay ever for the eye exam I had. Insurance covered most all of it and the copay was under $20, but it was a surprise nonetheless. And no, I’m not whining.

A windy, cloudy day today. The next seven days will be in the 60s and perhaps a bit of wind and rain. We’re still not seeing much in the way of leaf-turning, but it can’t be too much longer.

Afternoon all. Finally replaced my cheap wireless keyboard and mouse with…another cheap keyboard and mouse. Have had dinner at the Metro Diner (t’was good) and a Little Debbie Apple Pie for dessert when I got home. Soon as this is typed I will change into my grubbies and lawn mowage will commence. That should take care of my exercise for the day. Bright and clear and 74F outside.

boo fae, glad you enjoyed the weekend (and the beer). And thanks for the Welsh Wales explanation, I was wondering too.

flyboy, hope the feline dynamics work themselves out quickly (and quietly/painlessly).

I endorse this sentiment.

FCM, I’d be careful, Otis may decide that chicken-hunting is a habit he wants to indulge in again, and that could be problematical (listen to me, I’ve never owned a dog on my own, offering advice to life-long dog owners…)

Oopsie, I seldom watch baseball on TV anymore, and even tackleball is not a huge priority. Sometimes I wonder why I keep paying Direct TV a goodly chunk of cash every month… Appendages crossed that the audition is a inside-the-park-home run.

Cookie, I get the occasion small bill from my doc, but never more than $20 or so. Like you, no complaints from me, since I see the bills of what Medicare pays and the Doctor asks for.

And time for mowage. More later.

Yeah, but the fence is repaired, finally. We also found out that the chickens are free-range - no fence or anything. Apparently they already lost a rooster. I’m thinking they’re not very SMRT…

Just back from PetSmart where we got a tag for Otis - he’s now carrying FCD’s phone number around his neck. Anyway, time for more chillage till I have to make supper.

Monkey has strolled in with not one, not two, but three birds (two doves & a damn starling … not at the same time) and the look of pride & joy on his face …

(Ah, and thanks for the kind sentiments. I’m dealing with some personal stuff. Not well, clearly. Also, the Damn Teenagers made yesterday’s shift unpleasant. But I gave one of ‘em a ride home & it was perfectly nice! WTH.)

shoe Hope things start looking up in the near future. At least the young’un was polite on the ride.

It looks like the big rains that were supposed to get here have shifted off to the east. Good news for our digging in the dirt/pouring concrete thingy.

Here’s a way to “call” a cat that is apparently not interested in you. While looking away from the cat, make a sound somewhere between a purr and a meow, rising in pitch like a question, "Mrrr? At the same time, dangle your hand at your side and wiggle your fingers. The sound you made mimics a mother cat calling her kittens. If you do this subtly, the other people in the room may not even notice, until the cat comes over to polish your shins.

Shoe & FCMom, at least your critters brought in their prey after killing them. Once, when we had company, my doorbell-ringing cat rang to come in, and brought in a live dove, which got up and flew around the living room.

I cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, changed Spot’s litter, and took the trash and recycling out. It continues to rain off and on. Got handegg on now. Panther won the first game.

Because they were out of the giant bucket of mac n’ cheese?
{{{{sticky}}}}

Same.

I’m not having to rename my dog “Col. Sanders” at least. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Break a leg!

Hi all - Roughly 5pm Sun as I start driveling. GF just left and we had a very good time together. Didn’t do much that was exciting, but lots of basic togetherness that was real pleasant. I think we’re onto something with this relationship.

I see @Misnomer is typing now while I am; I hope she has some excellent news to share.

As to dogs and prey …
When I was a tween we got an Old English Sheepdog puppy. Who was just adorable when he was about 8" long. Soon he graduated to being ~12" long. At which point he brought home his first kill: a garden snail. He was so proud of himself and you could tell he just wanted to be praised to high heaven for his mighty accomplishment.

He later topped out around 80# & 4+ feet long. He was the critter for which we coined the term furdioactive. He could projectile shed until you swore he ought to be naked for all the fur stuck to everything. Nope. He made more at least as fast as he shed it.

doggio been a long time since I heard that story. Thanks! Lewis Grizzard was taken from us way too soon.

Sticky_Buns hope the earplugs and headphones help the situation. You’re right you can’t fix every problem, but that seems like an effective way to at least help this one.

MOOOOOOM as much as I like turkey, if ribs were also on the menu, I would be gnawin’ ‘em down. I do love me some ribs! Otis is a mighty hunter who provides for his family! How ungrateful of y’all not to eat the chikin he brought home!

BooFae sounds like a good time was had by all. Nice sometime to meander on secondary roads. I like to take routes through small towns on occasion. When I go to diocesan convention next month, part of the route I will take goes through some small towns before I hit the interstate that will lead to my destination.

Oopsie I just know you’ll crush the audition. Tears of joy will flow whilst roses are strewn at your feet.

Notty a dove? Maybe the cat was plannin’ on doin’ some magic for y’all.

Pilot glad gf and you had a nice time together. Sometimes just bein’ together is all you need.

I already had some chicken thawing - what was I supposed to do with that??? Idiot dog.

We had a very pale supper - chickie breast, noodles with chickie gravy (from a pouch - don’t judge), and cauliflower parmesan. Coulda been whiter - I almost made rice instead of noodles.

And once again, FedEx couldn’t be bothered to put our box 15’ to the left on the covered porch. Nope - left it under the eaves next to the garage door right behind where FCD parks. Did I mention it’s been raining? Had it been a tad windier and had I not been here when it was delivered, the box would have been soggy. I do so hate FedEx. On the plus side, we now have 40# of large breed puppy kibbles.

And that’s the end of today’s excitement. The rest of the day is reserved for chillage.
