Almost forgot the late-night final. Did tidy up the kitchen some, I doubt it would get the FDM/BBBoo/JtC seal of approval, but it is tidier and cleaner than it was. Then spent time at the gym and Krystals provided the evening sustenance, so about broke even on the calorie counter. Still at bit warm out (74F outside) so will leave the AC on until I head off to bed.
Oopsie, rooting for a good tryout. I got an estimate from Carmax for my current car and have the extras and pricing on-hand so I am going much better prepared than some of my earlier car purchases.
VanGo, interesting construction, hope we can get to see it in action.
FCM. first time I’ve heard you mention BIL in some time, seems like he is doing OK, even with the occasional problems. Hope he keeps getting the help he needs.
fachverwirrt (forgot your MMP name) I have the music on in the background as I type, it does sound real good.
JtC, I’ll help remind you when to change the clocks…so that I can remember it too…
Flyboy, hope the Mrs. is doing better.
And that’s all the energy I have left, we’ll see all y’all tomorrow.
Tidier and cleaner always gets my stamp of approval!
The nice thing about this is that I do not feed the fuzzbutts. I might top off their water fountain or toss a cup of kibble in their never-allowed-to-be-empty bowl, but Hubs is the one who gives them breakfast and dinner. And night time treats.
I’m not gonna be the one getting walked on when breakfast isn’t served on time.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. They are repaving the last of the street my complex is on tonight.
So you’re literally herding cats.
Spot tramples me on general principles. His new thing is waking up after I wake up, walking into the living room, and yowling, “I AM AWAKE, PLEASE COMFORT ME AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME!”
Morning, mumpers! it’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Psst! Hey fucker! Want to buy some fucking sunshine?” No thanks, there’s a bright shiny thing in the sky out there for me!
Welcome to the MMP, and thank you so much for that link - very interesting!
It already sounds like Otis is as much your dog as his…wasn’t it meant to be his responsibility?
Sounds like you were all happy to be back in decent surroundings there!
‘im indoors is like that, he tells me something is a simple job and it will take a short time to do it, then he doesn’t do it. And if I do it instead, he gets sulky!
I hope she feels better soon! I made shepherd’s pie last night because that’s what I wanted. There’s enough for four portions so I will have some more tonight and use the remaining two for campus lunches on Wednesday and Thursday, and take a sandwich on Friday just for a change from my usual fare.
We picked a lot of apples and a few pears from the fruit trees in our local pub’s beer garden. The landlady had been posting on FB saying they had masses of fruit and were happy for people to pick what they wanted in exchange for a donation into one of their charity boxes on the bar. Also, one of my neighbours has a massive pear tree and seems not to care about the fruit at all. I called round and asked if I could buy some from them, but they were happy for us to go into their garden and pick as much as we wanted.
Cherry firmly believes that if I am awake, it is time for food or fuss, or both. Even if it’s 1am, it’s time for something. Fortunately she sleeps on the bed with me so she gets a bit of attention then she goes back to sleep, and I attempt to do the same. She’s far more successful than I am.
Yesterday was a busy but frustrating day as there were lots of little jobs I was trying to get finished off but didn’t really success at any of them. The only thing I did of any significance was to finish writing up the meeting minutes from one of my dept’s meetings that took place at the end of September.
I logged out of work later than usual and went down to the kitchen to start shepherd’s pie construction. As usual, I peeled all the potatoes and put them on to boil for mash first, then chopped up the other veggies while they were cooking. Once everything was assembled, I covered the pie with tin foil and left it until it was ready to be uncovered and finished off in the oven. I emptied all the bins in the house and hauled the biiiiig bin to the kerb for today’s collection.
Got up this morning to tend to the needs of cats, after being rudely awakened by the idiot neighbour moving three of his seven cars at 5.30am. Fortunately I’m working at home again today so I was able to doze off for a bit longer. Cats have been fed, I’ve had a cup of tea, checked the inboxes for skip fires, and am now contemplating breakfast. I also need to go out and haul the empty biiiiiig bin back to where it lives, and that will be all the dealings with “outside” that I have today.
MusicMan puts Tabasco on almost every savory thing. Blech!
We’ve been watching The Murder Boat or Murder Ship or something like that. I forget the exact name. lol. It’s quite good, too!
I read that as 3 of his 7 cats. Seemed like quite the operation!
It’s 4:21, and I’ve been up for about 45 minutes. I did manage to score an appointment about my lovely sleeping habits for next Monday. I’m hoping that it helps, because, frankly, this sucks. Not so much the awake early part, but the part where my brain is so tired that it’s hard to concentrate on work part.
In better news, there is a lovely poodle snoozing on my lap. And I love her so much.
I managed to give myself an inadvertent reprieve from work for a little bit. I was going to jump right in when I woke up this morning, but when I went to grab my laptop, I realized that I hadn’t plugged it in last night to charge. Yes, I could have sat at my work desk, but then I would have missed out on QPT (quality poodle time) and that is nonnegotiable!
Ok, I am surprisingly hungry this early. Maybe I’ll go foraging for an early morning snack.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 86 and sunny. It’s laundry day and I can hardly contain myself. The afternoon will be RDOS inactivities and at six p.m. I get to participate in a Zoom meetin’. I get to hear all about the Diocesan budget, nominees for various positions, proposed resolutions and all sorts of fun things. Then it will be convocation (a convocation is a group of churches within the diocese. There are five of ‘em.) breakout time to elect convocation reps for the standin’ committee. I am told this whole ordeal will be no more than a hour and a half. We shall see. Sup will be tacos ‘n fixin’s, rice and refried beans. Fartfest to follow. Mayhaps the mute function on Zoom will get a workout durin’ the meetin’.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry, sloth and Zoom await! Onward! Rah.
Two or 3 years ago, FCD designed and bought all the stuff to build a remote controlled lawnmower so I wouldn’t have to mow the ditches and hills by hand. All the pieces are still in his shop, some still in the original packaging. Methinks I’ll never get the mower. I’m hoping I’ll continue to be able to mow till Roxy is old enough to take over for me.
Which means we can’t start training classes too soon! C’mon Oct 18!!!
I’m working hard to break my habit since I was dog-carer for so long. He’s doing most of the feeding and water-tending. I’ll frequently remind him to let the dog out and in. I don’t ignore Otis entirely, but I regulate my involvement. FCD needs as much training as Otis!
I tried watching it but couldn’t get thru the first episode. Maybe it was my mood that day.
OK, time to get my toofies cleaned. Happy Tuesday!!
And back with clean toofies! We have 2 new dentists… again… Turns out the practice is owned by some national company so the turnover in dentists isn’t the business being sold. Instead it’s the dentists having preferences or conflicts. One who left had a baby and discovered she couldn’t juggle work and motherhood to her satisfaction. Another left because his father was very ill and lived far away. So, yeah, life.
Anyway, no dental probs, which is good news.
MetalMouse - I hadn’t mentioned BIL much because he was essentially out of our lives, except for the occasional call to deal with his medical bills. (I manage that for him.) But since getting set up with this new mental health group, he’s doing lots better and no longer threatened with eviction. He even talked to FCD as if he didn’t hate him.
I need to yank a knot in my sweetie’s tail, tho. He told his brother he’d help him get his driver’s license back and help him buy a car. This after I’d pointed out that if he bought a car, that would wipe out what remains of his inheritance, plus his bro isn’t at all diligent about taking care of a car. But no matter. BIL doesn’t want a car, and I doubt he’d get a license anyway. He has a history of multiple seizures and in MD, that’s enough to prevent you from driving legally. So that should be that.
FCD had to run to the marina - they’re ready to install the fuel fill lines to the tanks. He says he’ll be back in time to go to the vet, but I’m prepared to do it myself if necessary. Well, I will be as soon as I get Roxy’s car seat out of my car. So the fun continues.
Morning all. Woke up to rain showers this morning, which are supposed to pass by around 9-10am. Have broken fast and will shortly get dressed and head over to the Hyundai dealer for some talk and maybe more. Otherwise not much planned for the day. Am considering making a podiatrist appointment, my right little toe is acting up and I seem to have a scab/something on it (I can’t see it clearly only touch it) and I know my shoes are giving it enough space, so might be worth a look.
boo fae, free apples and pears for a little work; good deal I think. And where does idiot neighbor find room (or even need) for seven cars?
Sticky Buns, hope the sleep doc can help. Enjoy your QPT.
swampy, hope the meetings will go as scheduled (HA!) and on-time (and again, HA!). Best of luck.
FCM, I’m still mowing at 73 and with a push mower only, so I’m sure you’ll make it. And good luck training FCD; too bad you can’t put him in the box when he misbehaves…
And sounds like the rain has departed, so I need to get dressed and head out shortly. All y’all have a god 2sDay now.
But do you have hills and ditches to contend with or a relatively flat yard? The slopes are what do me in. The rest of the yard can be done with a riding mower, which is easy-peasy.
Rainy today. Much cooler ( northeast Ohio) in the 60s. Housing isnt turning on the heat for awhile.
More to report but am off to do something and will fill in the extra info later.
All good on the financial front at least.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll find something to entertain myself with.
I talked to Dad last night. He celebrated his 88th birthday yesterday. He’s doing OK, although I can tell he’s a little bored. He asked about a tablet and I told him I’d hook him up with one the next time that I went north.
This is a mystery to us! He’s married with two kids and works as a driving instructor. His wife has a car (Audi estate) which I’ve never seen anyone else drive. He has a white mini that has learner plates on it, a red mini with learner plates on it, and a black mini that sometimes has learner plates on it. Then there are two blue minis, and another red mini that his son drives. The son’s car hasn’t been seen much recently so we think he’s left home and taken the car with him.
Any car used for the driving school must have dual control so that’s three out of the seven cars. I think he uses those cars for personal use too (he should take the learner plates off them at that point but often doesn’t). There was also a very old orange BMW that arrived on a low-loader and got pushed into his back yard. That’s gone now, no idea where or when it disappeared. Never seen the daughter drive a car either.
Whichever car he’s using for driver instruction has his driving school decals on the doors. I am always amused when I see the “road fury” one because he’s a skinny, short, Asian guy constantly henpecked by his wife!
That’s much too early to be up and dressed. I generally go for the first one after lunch, no matter where or with whom.
Thirty years ago (doesn’t seem possible – where has the time gone??) Lady SCAdian woke me at I think 0730, saying she’d been up for a couple of hours and thought it was time to go to the hospital, and by 0940 we had a baby girl to marvel at. She has decided on California Pizza Kitchen for her birthday meal, which will be in the early afternoon.
Other than that, there are no real plans for the rest of the day (or the rest of the week, for that matter).
.
Here’s hoping you never have to tell us about plumbing problems again! (because everything is fixed, not because we were getting tired of hearing about it!)
It is good that Spot has something to supervise while his slaves are sleeping.
After all, they said they were going to do it three years ago, what’s the hurry!
If it was something important, I’d just call someone to do it and ignore Hubs when he complained. This isn’t really that important, it is just annoying.
Hurray for fresh fruit.
Way back when Mom was a teenager, she got a job picking pears. She hated that job because it was so finicky and didn’t pay well. Plus she ate and smelled and touched so many pears that she never wanted to eat another one.
I thought I hated pears until a couple of years ago. I don’t hate pears, they are pretty yummy. Mom hated pears so I hated them with her and refused to eat them.
I don’t think I will tell her, I know she did her best to not let her food dislikes influence us (she also hated avocados, happily I didn’t get influenced by that.) and I don’t know if she would think it is as funny as I do.
I use green salsa instead. The tomatillos don’t argue with the spices.
Give Annie a skritch for me, she’s such a hard working pupper!
Oh, you MUST get him off his butt for this. One of our neighbors has a remote controlled finish mower and he is the envy of all. People slow down on the highway to watch when he’s out by the road and then drive away filled with envy. It appears to be the ultimate status symbol in a state that always smells like new cut grass.
Unhealed sores on the feet are always concerning, especially at our age. Make the call today.
Today I have administrative trivia to do in the morning (almost done) and then I’m going to go to Logan and get my library card. The weather guessers say there will be rain today which will be good for my baby bushes.
No real plans otherwise. I’m working the border on my wool piece now and white and white on white gets tedious but looks so pretty I keep on going.
I should probably get back to the chores so I can curl up with a cat and tea and watch the afternoon rain. TTYL
Well, we cancelled on the apple picking again, so that’s that for this year. I’ll likely go for a walk later, as it’s nice and cool this week (44F when I got up this morning), but I’m really having trouble getting the wife to leave the apartment for much of anything.
Breakfast was a croissant sandwich with a side of sausage and a bowl of pears. I sure miss the peaches, pears, cherries, etc that are grown in the PNW.
Later today is a meeting of the new “men’s club”, whatever the hell that is. I’ll check it out, but I don’t really hold out much hope that it will be something I’ll attend with any regularity; assuming it makes it past the first meeting, that is. Unless there is poker in the offing. I wonder if they’ll have a sign on the door that says NO GURLZ ALLOWED!!! or some such.
I really need to get off my ass and get our wills updated. Mine is still pretty solid (although very old), but the wife’s is really in need of editing. There is a free online site for do it yourself wills that are specific to one’s state of residence. Fill in the blanks, get it notarized with witnesses, and Bob’s yer uncle. And ours are very simple, with no complicated real estate or other holdings.
It’s 46°F and sunny. It’ll be sunny all day, with a high of 75°F. Tomorrow, the daytime highs drop back into the low sixties.
I have read, but not really retained.
I lost the battle. By Sunday night, I was coughing, and my throat hurt so much it felt like broken glass was scraping it each time I coughed. Surprisingly, my sinuses were not all that stuffed. Yesterday, I woke feeling like utter shite, so I spent the day lying around, trying to sit up every so often. I could even finish coffee! That’s sick for me! I don’t feel much better today, but I’m coughing a little less, so that’s good. I might actually get some laundry done.
I am getting worried about the shutdown because I’m still due a paycheck and the payout for my leave. That’s all I’ll say about that. Seeing as I was officially retired as of midnight on 30 September, I won’t have many avenues if this drags on. I still don’t have a CSR number for OPM either.
I hope all goes well with the vet, FCM. He seems to be a healthy and happy pup.
I picked strawberries and raspberries as a kid to earn a little money. I can’t say I was particularly thrilled about either. I grew up with two giant apple trees in my backyard, so I always had apples galore, which meant apple cake, apple sauce, apple bread, and apple butter in large quantities. They were delicious apples. I don’t remember doing anything harvest-related in the fall; I lived in the suburbs (other than picking apples).
Boo Fae, my husband also used to become very sulky when I just did the thing I’d been asking him to do forever. He’s learned he’d better do it, or just shut up when I handle it. Unfortunately, this also means he became accustomed to me handling many things, and now I’m regretting it. It’s a double-edged sword for sure.
Well, I guess I should get to gettin’. I need to take care of some small chores, or I’ll go nuts.
I couldn’t connect to my orifice confuser this morning. Usually when that happens, it’s because it lost power and needs to be turned back on. Instead of timing out though, Microsoft Remote Desktop brought me back to logon. I have the Lenovo laptop irk issues me (but I can’t use it because Easytrieve won’t run on it), and opened an IT ticket. I could do some work on it as long as I didn’t need my program; only… It was never mapped to OneDrive, so I couldn’t get to my files. It took a long time for IT to sort the connectivity issue. It seems Microsoft said, ‘Hey, this Remote Desktop works very well indeed! Let’s fix it!’ Anyway, both the connectivity issue and the OneDrive issue are resolved.
Mrs. L.A.’s cousin (first cousin, once removed?) qualifies for food stamps, but she can’t get an interview because the government is shut down. Mrs. L.A. put a check in the mail for $200 and told her it was coming. The cousin said, ‘I was praying for a miracle, and there you are!’
