I second Chewy. I bought Taste of the Wild puppy formula for Nelson, though I don’t think it comes in large breed formula. I still have him on regular Taste of the Wild because its grain free and I can get it in small kibble (the little booger makes a mess of bigger pieces).

I see a lot of stuff going to “Prof. Bob, N.C. State.” Last time N.C. State University was one building was 1890.
Well, at least it’s already in country.
George came eating Taste of the Wild and Jolene adjusted to it quite nicely. We feed it because cats are obligate carnivores and grain=poop. I didn’t realize that grain wasn’t good for dogs because they are omnivores.
How are you liking the TX fall? Is it noticeably different from TN, minus the leaves?
We got some Advantage flea drops today from Amazon. [NB: I haven’t seen any fleas.] Same price as Chewy, but Chewy charges shipping. I think the litter comes from Amazon too.
Amazon charges shipping too, it’s just a monthly membership charge. Chewy has a flat rate shipping charge of $4.95, unless your order is $49 and then it’s free.
I stopped counting “large breed puppy chow” at 44 versions. Gotta be at least one Otis likes.
We buy a lot of stuff. Wifey, RN gets medical supplies, I get… stuff… And we get Prime video.
Ms Peach does not like the rain. This is the rainiest day we’ve had since I got her, she really doesn’t want to go out in it. Not that I can blame her too much for that, I don’t wanna go out in it either.
Evening all. Have returned from a late-night gym visit, Just about balanced calories with intake, so have accomplished that much. Still raining off and on so soccer practice tomorrow is a definite ‘maybe’. Talked to my Edward Jones rep and should have the car money in my bank tomorrow, so now it is all up to the dealership getting the car in. I may also spend some extra bucks and get the side-steps (or running boards as I know them by) added on post-purchase. We’ll see how it works out.
Cupcakes, first sorry about losing your father too damn early, but we often can have a selective memory, especially for traumatic events.
Pilot. hope the kinks can be worked out. And thanks for the kind comments, I don’t know if this will be my ‘last’ car, I had the Dodge nearly 8 years and that’s a long time for me, this one should get me into my 80’s and then we’ll see if I’m still driving.
And thanks to all y’all who commented on my new purchase. Supposed to get 36mpg in Hybrid mode, so filling the tank may become a once-a-month occurrence.
JtC, I’m with your mom, I wouldn’t have a clue which fork was which, if I can eat the food with it efficiently, then it’s good enough for me. But if it makes your Mom laugh…priceless.
There is that. I presume any tariff has been collected, even with this stuff the prices didn’t really get that much higher over the 2035 models.
And it’s after 10:30pm already and I don’t feel all that tired, but probably will head off to bed and work on some puzzles until the sandman hits me (probably with a cement block). See you on Hump Day all.
Up caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave,
Narrator: “Dogs are descended from wolves.”
Dogs: “I can’t go out, the ground is damp.”
He does get some grain in the form of treats, but when he was a puppy, the vet recommended that his primary diet be grain free. For dogs, rice doesn’t actually count as grain, so when I get back to making his breakfasts, it will be chicken, rice and veggies. So far, autumn in Texas just means that the temperature tends to top out around 90F and the ragweed is still pollinating.
Have you considered a raincoat for her? Nelson isn’t crazy about rain either, but with a slicker, he doesn’t fight going out.
That was what I was thinking- it’s getting them from the spare room to the bathroom without completely freaking them out that’s the issue. I tried trapping them in a carrier, but I can’t close it fast enough to get them in there and they panicked. I can’t help thinking freaking 'em out is not a good way to make friends…
Anyway, it’s morning, it’s very grey and a bit rainy and I have a bad case of the dontwannas.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 14c.57f and cloudy. Weather app says “Stratus clouds are definitely the fucking shitbags of the meteorology world. Trust me, I fucking know my shit.”
Happy birthday to your bundle of joy!
I’ve done that too, and then he complains that the job wasn’t done properly (or not how he would have done it) despite it being something he’s no expert in, and I hired a trained professional!
If it’s anything like swampy’s club, you’ll spend the time putting the world to rights but nobody will listen to you
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been attacked by the lurgy, I hope you’re feeling a bit better today. Laze around, look after yourself and don’t feel guilty about not doing anything until you feel properly recovered!
You were grieving, you probably forgot a lot of things that happened around that time. If it was being handled by other family members, you had no real reason to have a focus on it either.
Fabulous! I hope you have many years of happy motoring in it.
Yesterday had an uneventful end, I did the stuff I needed to do and was in bed at a reasonable time so that was all good. Today I was up early for campus but the bus was late so I missed the train I’d planned to be on. Got the one after it, which was running slightly late but still made it to Big City Station in time for the faster train out to campus. Now I am in the office with a cup of tea and my breakfast. Then I will check for skip fires.
Tonight I am not going out with my friends as they are away, I’m going over to theirs after work to feed the ferret and make sure he’s ok, then back home to deal with stroppy cats who will be annoyed that they’ve had to wait an eternity for food and clean litter trays.
Taters, I hope you are feeling better today.
I am feeling… kinda blah. I have two IEPs for next week that I’m starting on and I have no idea what I’m doing. Hopefully my awesome teacher friends can help.
Ok, soon it will be time to awaken the lap dog and go look for some breakfast.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and cloudy. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and be our usual RDOS selves this afternoon. Wednesday night doin’s over to the church house is a cookout and eat outdoors adventure due to the parish hall bein’ full of yahd sale stuff. I have agreed to be grill master for the burgers and dawgs (NMD). OYKW told me yestiddy he will skip this one. Don’t blame him as I really wish I hadn’t volunteered myself.
BooFae I hope that you can be repentant enough to receive absolution from the kittehs.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Such bother!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
My parents both grew up on farms, and my mother grew quite a large vegetable farm when we were small. There really isn’t anything like corn fresh from being picked. Tomatoes as well.
Taiwan has Mid-Autumn Festival, and a national holiday, but unfortunately Japan does not. We celebrated it when we lived there, but didn’t do anything here.
It’s getting cooler now, with nights dropping down to around 5°C. We had to get out winter blankets out.
The sailing season is almost finished.
Staring in amazement at the fees listed on that web page – people really pay that much for driving lessons? First time I ever drove a car was a month or two after my 24th birthday. After all those years watching other people drive I had no problems at all with the ten-mile drive home.
I hope you’re as happy with your Hyundai as we have been with ours. I know nothing of their hybrids, but our plain old ordinary gas engines have served us well. And mine has the grey interior which does a good job hiding dirt, and that makes me happy!!
That’s what I need and haven’t been able to find so far. At the moment, we have most of a 16# bag that he may or may not like. I’m wondering if softening it in low-sodium beef broth will change his opinion. Thanks for the suggestion - I’ll see what can be done.
No kidding. Tho when you think about it, the time involved and the hourly pay required to keep good workers makes for higher labor costs than one might expect. We’ve run into that with the boat. But the workers are better than at other yards and, well, you get what you pay for, generally. Glad it’s not major damage.
I was aghast at some of the prices I encountered - like over $5/#!! At that rate, his food would cost more than ours!! The vet did say we can add veggies to his dish. He loves carrots! And we know to avoid onions, garlic, grapes, and chocolate. (Yes, chocolate comes from a plant so it’s a veggie!!!) Anyway, the search goes on.
Heh - this is FCD with the boat work. He has definite ideas of how he’d do it, but he can’t, mostly because of his physical state, and I try to point out that the yard crew does this stuff all the time and maybe they know things that he doesn’t. But he always thinks it through as if the tools were in his hands. Maybe it’s a guy thing.
Merrylande has mandated driving school (dunno when that happened - certainly not when I got my license 50+ years ago) and I just looked this up:
$395.00. This Package Meets the minimum requirements for Maryland Driver Education Certification. This Includes 30hrs of Classroom Instructions and 6 hours of Driving Lessons.
Apparently you no longer have the option of learning from the little book and driving with a licensed driver, then taking the test. Which is good, but had mandatory driving school been in effect when I was 17, I’ve had had to save several months to manage it. Tho I did take the class thru night school and the fee was doable for me.
Anyway, we had a rainy night and it could continue for a few more hours. I guess it’s part of a front coming thru because we’re looking at lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s/low 70s for the rest of the week. Welcome, autumn!
I may run to Aldi and maybe Food Lion for a few things, but no other plans as yet. FCD has a few more things to do on the boat before they can put the generator back in place. Beyond that, whatever happens will happen.
Happy Wednesday!!
Morning all. Woke up with a little congestion and a cough that I feel in my chest, so the rain and change in seasons have apparently given me a small cold. Not feeling particularly sick, just a little uncomfortable. We’ll make like a camera and see what develops… After yesterdays adventures and excursions I’ll probably be sticking close to home today, soccer practice is at 5:30pm but with the rain the past couple of days the fields might be closed. It’s supposed to be drying for the rest of the week, but temperatures won’t get above 80F and the evenings will be in the 50’s, so good sleeping weather as I call it.
I took Driver’s Education in High School when I was 16 and that plus some practice with my parents (for some reason my mom read that practicing driving in a cemetery was a good idea, I just hope the spirits that reside within the place have forgiven me…)
FCM, this is the first year with the Palisades having a hybrid version, but Hyundai has been doing it for quite some time with other vehicles so it should be ok. I works by converting energy from braking as I understand it so don’t have to plug it in anywhere.
And need to break my fast here, so have a good >checks calendar< Hump Day all.
rainy days and wednesdays…
philly hasn’t had a rainy day like this in a bit. going to be a thin turn out in the office. various transit issues are making anyone using the suburban train routes very frustrated.
tuesday was a good dog day. i got to ride the elevator with 2 of my favourite doggy neighbours.
lsl, my mother would have been fascinated by the horseradish fest. she was the family go to for borsht and horseradish sauce. if you returned the jar/container it would get refilled. i don’t believe anyone took up her mantle on that. if i get a whiff of it my face melts.
Good morning.
It’s 48°F, dark, and partly cloudy outside. Today will feature a mix of clouds and sun, with daytime temperatures reaching a high of 62°F.
FCM, before I had to switch to Royal Canin SkinTopic (which is prescription and ridiculously expensive), I had the pups on Fromm Gold Large Breed puppy and then dog food. It was also not cheap. I think trying out small bags or samples is the best approach. Fortunately for me, mine are Labs and are like Mikey of cereal fame, who will eat anything.
Unfortunately, I do not know when or IF they pressed the button to submit my retirement application. So, I’m not sure if my packet is even there to begin with, let alone to receive the estimated payment, much less the remaining pay and leave payout from active service. If things don’t shake loose by Monday, I’ll probably look into moving some funds from my TSP.
I felt a little better yesterday, but by evening, I was feeling pretty icky again. I did manage to do all my laundry, although I still have bedding and towels to do today. I am feeling kind of icky now, but I’ve only been up a little over an hour, so I’m sure part of that is because the phlegm has to drain and move. I’ll live, but it’s still annoying.
One of my old workmates called me yesterday, looking for a voice of reason, I guess. She went out under the DRP/retirement just like me. We are the same age, and many of our life experiences mirror each other, making it uncanny. We bonded over these shared experiences over the last few years. Many of us, both active and retired, belong to a private chat. Of course, my former MPA promptly reported that OMB had removed language guaranteeing back pay to furloughed federal employees. She can be rather dramatic. The newest MPA, who, in my opinion, was going to be written up prior to accepting the DRP, immediately started pushing everyone’s buttons, posting unsubstantiated rumors related to pay and payouts for those who had recently retired. She called me because she was interested in my thoughts and knew I wouldn’t go off the deep end. I told her, I am a little worried, but I’m not going to go into freak-out mode just yet. We talked some more, I pointed her to sites I’d been reading, and then we spent time catching up, with a plan to get together very soon.
Pilot, I’m glad the scrape is minor, but sorry you still need to go through the expense and hassle of repairing it.
I also took Driver’s Ed in high school, but I think I had to pay around $60 for it. I practiced with my mother and some of her friends and passed both my written and driving tests on the first try.
Metal Mouse, your new ride looks nice. Don’t ever let it sit for too long without driving it. I know you’re always active and on the go, but when you take your trips, I recommend checking into a solution to prevent your battery from draining. We encountered multiple issues with Hyundai Sonatas that had to be parked during COVID, and they were all hybrid models. Of course, these were 2016 and 2017 models, so perhaps Hyundai has addressed this issue.
The pest person (not sure if it’ll be our normal guy) is supposed to come today, so we’re stuck here. I’m considering discontinuing this service (at least for now). I have traps set under the house, but I can’t remember the last time tech actually went under the house to check for other areas of intrusion. They placed the traps so they could see them from the outside, but it just bothers me; they don’t check more thoroughly. I also have bait stations outside. Sometimes they’re hit, sometimes they’re not.
Well, I suppose I should get the day started. Please take care of yourselves.
