Harvest Festival in the MMP

Good evening all. Feeling better as the day went on, the weather cleared up and we had a pretty nice (albeit cloudy) day. Went without the AC being on all day and we’ll see if this begins a trend or not.

Soccer practice took a little longer than planned, the goal we are assigned to has a 8-ft high chain-link fence about 10 feet behind it and on the other side is a small hill and then a large pond…so of course we had several boys put soccer balls into the pond and they (and the coaches) had to fish them out. It’s a pretty big pond, about 80’ x 200’ in my estimation, so it’s not like you can wade out there and get it. What we do is throw rocks to stir up the water and get the ball moving toward the shore. We managed to rescue both soccer balls but I am afraid that once the story gets around we’ll have every player trying to kick the snot out of their soccer ball so it will go over the fence and into the pond…10/11 years olds, gotta love them cause you can’t drown them…

Cheeburger and chips have been consumed and are being assimilated as I type this, and since I ate my meat I could have pudding for dessert–and I did.

And 20 messages to scroll through…best be about it.

rocky, hope you stayed dry and glad you had some fun canine time.

Taters, hope the money shows up, it all should be computerized by now (and I know, GIGO). Glad you could reconnect with an old workmate. And thanks for the battery suggestion, I’ll remember to ask about it when the car comes in.

Thanks to all for sharing their driver training stories; we have a number of cars around here that have a bumper sticker that says, in effect ‘new driver, please be patient and careful.’

Cookie. glad the memory test went well. I find that I often forget something, but remember it as soon as I enter that area/room and can remember the prior history clearly, so I guess my mentis is still compos (NOT compost, doggio!)/

Nut, British (and European) driving is rather more..civilized…than in the US of A.

Happy to know the situation is normal. And of course a cat would be fascinated by a…katana…

Coppertone, sorry they were so abrupt, but that’s the way some businesses are.

One of Us!! One of Us!!

JtC, quite a driving story. Glad to hear nobody’s died.

Oopsie, glad the lesson went well. And thanks for the suggestions, they would not have occurred to me (especially using the phone camera)

swampy, you were not being bad; God simply answered your prayers…

VanGO, hopefully the museum item gets straightened out and the folks in charge learn a lesson about using that GC.

Pilot, Jays are hanging on to a 2-1 lead in the 7th, so your hopes may be met. (and just looked as I am editing this message and it is 4-1 Toronto now). And glad GF has better tastes than her friends.

And that’s all for now, I will not be like Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout and I will be taking th garbage out to the curb this evening. Take care all.

Up from naptime, having a martini and chicken with egg noodles.

Indeed, that’s what breaks are for.

I like that “Disco Inferno” can loosely be translated into “I learn through suffering”

:+1:

Sounds like Gordie’s first day with me.

Spot, three days from now:

So you were there when they switched? My Okinawa friend told me about that. Just one day everyone started driving on the other side of the road.

We had driver’s ed at school, and either didn’t have any fees or just a minimal fee. It wasn’t mandatory, but if I can think back that far, you needed some sort of driving school so it was much cheaper than taking lessons at a private school.

My parents didn’t have driver’s ed. They could just take the test.

I ordered a watch.

It’s a ‘retro mod’ Seiko automatic movement copy of a Rolex Submariner. I already have a 1978 Rolex Submariner, but I’ve always wanted a Sub on a NATO band. (I have a grey NATO band.) I don’t care for the extra tic-marks after the 10 on the bezel, but it’s a nice-looking watch. And it’s a lot cheaper than another Vintage Rolex.

And NYY are defeated. Better luck next year you loozers!!!1! Sorry @Misnomer. How can I console you?

Good luck w everything w a non-asshole employer …

BBBoo will be suitably fortified. Bellowing and righteously roaring is right up her alley.

… in a manner the other kids recognize. Oops!

Nifty

I admire your pettiness. #TeamOfIrrationalHatred

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and cloudy with a chance of rain mid to late afternoon. No big plans for the day outside of makin’ a batch of beef and veggie soup in the biiiiiig slow cooker. That and cornbread will be sup. We will indulge in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

Oopsie sorry about the Yankees losin’. Take a deep breath, sigh, and say, “there’s always next year.”

Coppertone glad one of your employers is sympathetic. May the other one suffer an eternity of painful paper cuts.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, soup makeage commences! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Its 45 degrees.:grimacing:
Going to training today.

A gracious good after… er… morning!

It got down to 48° overnight but I’d closed most of the windows, so the house didn’t drop below 70°. Highs mostly in the low-to-mid 60s for the next week, maybe bumping 70° a time or two. We’re scheduled for our autumnal HVAC service next Firday - good timing, methinks.

I contacted Jessica at Hospice yesterday - she’s going to arrange to swing by here and pick up the Big Bag o’Blankets. It’ll be nice to see her again. Last batch I gave her was in January - this batch is more timely for the cool weather. I haven’t decided if I’ll order more yarn or not. At the moment, I’m trying to use up all the remaining scraps in a throw - with the cool weather approaching, FCD and I like a little cover as we recline.

I will go for groceries today. I need to inventory pantry and fridge/freezer and make a list. I also need a few things at the Mart of Wal so I really should get moving early and have done with it.

This morning, Ziva followed me out of the bedroom to get her morning treats - she hasn’t had any since the big, black, stinky canine moved it. She hung out with me until FCD had the audacity to release the beast. They came face-to-face in the dining room - she hissed and Otis looked confused, then she bolted for the bedroom, and he continued looking confused. Life with critters is, um, interesting.

I took Otis out for a short walk yesterday, and I think, weather permitting, I’ll do it regularly, working up the the full mile anna quarter walk around the block. I need the exercise and FCD hates walking, plus he really can’t set a quick enough pace. The dog seems to do well on leash, altho we didn’t encounter anyone else, so that’s to be seen.

And so the day begins. Happy Thursday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “In my opinion, this is the fucking perfect type of weather. But I’m also fucking broken and not very fucking bright.”

I was going to wish you a fab day out with her, and some happy thrifting but I see she bailed on you. Sorry about that, I hope you had an enjoyable day doing your own things instead.

I’d be nervous about that too, my memory is pretty bad and relies a lot on me writing lists! I hope she doesn’t cancel it, sounds like the baseline could be important.

That’s great news, and must be a fantastic boost to your confidence too. I hope the audition goes really well and the guys are equally impressed with your talents.

All of the above! The only way to learn is by experience and since we have to spend so much of our time having lessons, the place to do it is on the road amongst the qualified drivers. Sadly a lot of fresh immigrants don’t bother to take the UK test and rely on their overseas driving licence until they get stopped by the police for some minor infringement, then find themselves in a proper pickle because they’ve been driving here for too long on the wrong licence.

Yesterday became far more eventful than it should have been. I got out of work at the appointed time, then went on a slightly extended trip home as I needed to go to my friends’ house to feed their ferret. Sorted him out and caught another bus back which fortunately drops me off a couple of streets away from home.

I walked down my street towards home and saw a police car with flashing lights parked across the street, thought nothing of it and went into the house to get on with cat feeding and other stuff. Heard a knock at the door and it was PC Plod, asking if we had any CCTV from the camera at the front of the house as there had been an assault outside the house earlier in the evening. I had to explain that the disc or the server had been wonky lately so although the camera records, I wasn’t sure if it was backing up properly, and didn’t have access to it anyway. ‘im indoors can do that, but wouldn’t be home until Thursday night to look at it. PC Plod gave me a contact card and crime log number, and I said I’d let them know.

I went to look at it because I know how to get to it via the TV, found the 2-3 minutes of footage that might have helped (two guys arguing with some pushing and shoving, but no actual fisticuffs), played it back on the telly and recorded it on my phone, then rang the police back to tell them, and uploaded it to the link they’d sent me. I told ‘im indoors about it via email today and he said he has a camera that points a slightly different way (which I couldn’t see on the box) so he might find something on there to send to the police.

Tonight should be far less dramatic, I have to run the rollsuck round the house as the catsitter’s coming at the weekend!

She didn’t do badly. The best recommendations that he made was that she needs to get back to regular exercise and start watching her diet. These are things that spouses don’t listen to each other about, but may heed from a doctor. He also referred her to another couple of appointments, but that’s going to be a hard sell at this point.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 50°F, dark and cloudy outside. It’ll be generally overcast, with a slight chance of a rain shower around 7:00 a.m., and the daytime high will only reach 62°F.

I’m glad things went relatively well for your wife at the doc visit, Cookie.

I would say that hopefully Ziva gets used to Otis, FCM, but she’s a grand old lady. It took my cat a couple of years to accept Cap’n when we got him. Even then, the poor pup was barely tolerated, but Mr. Peepers was not averse to a good snuggle next to Cap’n. I miss that boy, lo these many years later.

Ugh, the crud that’s invaded my body is annoying. Last night, the cough returned. This morning, my head feels completely stuffed, and everything feels rather thick and unwilling to move.
I hope being upright for a couple of hours settles things down. My husband really wants to go to lunch and the German deli to obtain cold cuts and Teewurst. I guess I’ll play it by ear.

BooFae, wow, that does sound like a small bit of excitement!

I spent yesterday morning removing the dead plants (my husband didn’t water while I was gone) from the front porch planters, watering everything, hosing down the porch, and watering the plants in the back, too. I ran the rollsuck, tidied the kitchen, and took care of a few other chores, too. I was done by 10:30 a.m.. I still haven’t mowed the lawn, and I really need to get to it. I should have done it yesterday, darn it.

Oopsie, I’m so glad things went well with the voice coach. I’m sure you’ll smash it at Sunday’s audition.

Some of my former workmates reached out to me yesterday, and I chatted for a bit with all of them. It was mainly commiseration and “Have you heard if” type of stuff.

Well, I should get another cup of coffee in me and then get the last of the dishes in the dishwasher so I can run it. Take care of yourselves!

Yes, but it didn’t “just” happen. Everyone was all atwitter about it for a very long time. It was on US and Okinawan TV and radio. Covered street signs were installed, and many streets had their markings removed in the weeks leading up to the day.

The island wide curfew started at 1800 (I think) and lasted until the next morning when we woke up to new street markings, directional signs were uncovered and covered as needed, street lights were adjusted.

Those of us who could, took the day off. I found myself a nice spot on a hill where I could watch the traffic by the gate and one of the civilian street lights. It was very entertaining.

Nobody died then either. Speed limits were slow and everyone was being cautious. Busses got stuck under overhangs, many fender benders happened but the next day it was almost as if nothing was different-its always been this way.

Up, caffeinating (and lord god, I need that), breakfasted and fixing to do KP.

I was awakened (again!) at one this morning to the smoke alarm, except this time, it wouldn’t stay off. It screamed for an hour until emergency maintenance got here. He’ll be back with a new one as soon as he gets in this morning (no worries, there’s one in the living room too). Sis will be here today and even if she bails again, I am going to the grocery store.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

it will be a wild weekend in philly. the navy and marines are celebrating 250 years. lots of happenings around the delaware river on the phila and camden sides. with a huge parade on monday morning. and! that’s not all! a big nor’east’r is forming. it should hit sundayish. good times.

there is a parade of ships going on now. 8 navy ships will be docked on the delaware and be open for visits. the event(s) start this morning and will continue to monday. wild times!

And a good, albeit late morning to all. Stayed in bed until nearly 8am, then had to wait for the morning pills to take effect on an empty stomach, but have finished a Big Bowl O’Cereal so I’m doing good. Trash bin is back in the garage, glad I took it out late last night cause they showed up early to collect it, ordered some more replacement stuff for my hearing aids (little plastic ‘domes’ that fit over the assembly and tiny little ‘prowax’ pieces that protect the mechanism against wax buildup). Otherwise outside of a still nagging cough and slightly political nose (it’s running), all is well. Nothing much on the agenda except soccer with the littles at 5:30pm and need to make up my Firday shopping list, I’m running low on Diet Pepsi/Pepsi Zero and Kroger has a ‘buy 2, get 2 free’ deal on, so that will be my major purchase.

Definitely cooling down, it’s either 59F (if you believe my computer) or 64F (if you prefer the Weather Underground info on-line), but either way it means I am wearing clothes that I do not wear during the hot months. Not even close to turning the heat on, but still much preferable to having the AC working all day.

doggio , love the pic–Samurai Cat!

flyboy, nice watch, I have nothing that fancy but it will look sharp on your wrist.

FCM, poor Otis, he probably is willing to make friends with the crotchey old biddy he shares the house with, but she is still doing her ‘I vant to be alone’ act. Glad Otis behaves well on-leash, but the proof will be when the first squirrel or other dog is spotted.

boo fae, so some drama in the neighborhood. Glad you and 'Im Indoors could help, I do not have a camera at my door, have thought about it but since I only plan to be here another 3 years or so, I probably won’t.

Taters, sounds like you have a more serious bit of what I have. Take care now.

red, glad maintenance got the alarm replaced, that had to be annoying. Hope Sis maks it over today.

rocky, enjoy the festivities, if not the rain. We’re an Army town and their celebration was this past June, so nothing much going on here.

And that’s all for the morning report, will check back later as the day proceeds on it’s course. Have a good one all.

That’s something I’ve found really striking about the various police shows we’ve watched on BritBox - there seem to be many, many cameras all over the place! I think it’s a great idea, tho I’d prefer not to be recorded scratching where it itches… :open_mouth:

She barely tolerated Higgs, tho if she realized that Otis is afraid of her…

Coke products are BOGO at Food Lion if you have their magic card. I assume it’s some sort of marketing ploy, rather than saying “Half Price!” Even tho the fine print on the sign says “Will ring up as half price” - tho at some stores, you have to buy however many to get the deal. Read the fine print!!!

Anyway, back from 3 shopping stops. Even tho I had a note, I almost forgot the bandaids! But all is good. I even got some canned pumpkin and a sack o’sweet potatoes to go with dog food. And I got him a proper food bowl. We’d been feeding him in a large ceramic dish I’d made, but besides being heavy, the surface was rough - didn’t glaze well. I also discovered that the wet food I’d ordered from DaJungle costs essentially the same at Mart of Wal - maybe 2¢ more.

I was also pleased to see Otis eat some dry kibbles when I got home. He went to eat the rest of his breakfast (maybe a quarter of a cup) and I tossed some kibbles in the bowl, and he ate most of them. So progress!

We went to Salsa’s last night and I just had my leftovers for lunch. In a little bit, I’ll harness up Otis and take him for a slightly longer walk today. I want him to get to know the neighborhood so if by chance he gets out, he’ll know where to come back. Plus, yanno, exercise.

OK, break time over. Back at it!

Navy birthday is next Monday, but the Marine Corps birthday is 10 November. Trying to save money by doing a combined celebration, are they? Actually, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek (Virginia), being a joint Navy-Marine Corps base, does have a joint celebration, somewhere in October, between the two dates. I always paid more attention to the Submarine Force birthday, on 11 April (the anniversary of the Navy’s acquiring its first sub, USS Holland, in 1900).

High school was a long time ago for me. Drivers’ Ed was optional, and some kids opted out, for fear that it might drag down their stellar GPAs. There was a bonus, in the form of getting your driver’s license 6 months younger. There was one fool who thought it would be funny to bring a helmet to the in-car instruction. That was me.

The True Fan, I’m told, endures a bad year, or seven, and remains loyal. Here at Chateau de Nott, we are StL Cardinals fans, though Mrs. Nott’s expression of it this year has been in ignoring baseball most of the season, and in griping about them when the subject comes up.

I lived in STL during the brief tenure of Joe Torre then all of the Tony LaRussa era plus a bit more. Which was a fairly successful run and included notables like Mark McGwire, Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, etc.

I still have a warm spot for the team, but they’re blowing a lot of cold air on it. OTOH, now living in the land of the Marlins, a bucket of warm spit usually puts on a better display of baseball prowess than the locals do. Making the raggedy Cards look good by comparison.
