*oof* Mexican food tonight. I had fajitas, and used all four corn tortillas. I usually get one fried jalapeño. The side order is two. Tonight I ordered the side order… and got three. And yes, I ate all of them. I’m stuffed like a demon. I also had two grande Cadillac margaritas. Mi Esposa had a ‘lava’-something margarita. It was a grande, and was blended. It looked like it had strawberry sundae topping mixed in. I did not want to taste it. She only had one, saying, ‘I can only have one dessert.’
Coming up on 18:00, and Hocus Pocus is playing. (It started at 16:30, just as we were sitting down at the restaurant.)
Meet Calypso! This boy is about 3.5-4 months old and looking for a home of his own! He is a little bit if a shy guy at first but this guy love to snuggle and man this little guy can talk. He’s often the first one to remind me it’s dinner time and rushes me till the food is put down. If you’re looking for a kitty who is used to chaos, other cats and even better yet DOGS this is your guy! You can find him on the Main Street Mutt and Meow Rescue website now!!
I think Abbey would like a kitten. (Calypso is a girl’s name; so if we get him, I guess we’ll call him Cal.)
And a late evening greeting to all. Did finally get out of the house around 4pm and took a mile walk around the park before coaching soccer, so decided to go to the gym afterward and put in some good work so didn’t get home until about 9pm, where I am currently working my way through my second ham-n-cheese sammich. Have the NFL tackleball game on Amazon Prime open in another tab (what is it with the Giants-Eagles never going to form?) and enjoying the mid-60’s evening. Still got a little cough but feel much better than I did this morning.
And catching up with y’all…
Nut, boo! on friend not listening about boxes and yay! for making the ratties part of the family (don’t know if your family members bite you often, but you get the idea…)
Pilot , ladies are probably jealous that GF got such an amazing catch as you. Hope things work out.
Bright Tree, glad your problem is outside, mine is either in the wall or under my slab so it makes for a mess either way.
FCM, sounds like a fair distribution of work for Otis. Glad he’s got a good appetite, means he’s comfortable where he’s at.
red, taking care of the maintenance folks will pay off in the short and long term..but you already know that.
Coppertone , may things continue to work out for you…even if maintenance doesn’t put the seat down.
Flyboy, first Otis and now Calypso, seems to be pet adoption season here in the MMP. And I need to watch that movie again (for those wondering, it’s Operation Petticoat starring Cary Grant).
And getting close to 10pm so I’ll sign off now. See y’all tomorrow.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Every cloud has a fucking silver lining. Except that one. That one is hoping you fucking fail.”
Are you planning to attend any of it? Do you think the weather will dampen everyone’s spirits?
Yes, we do have a lot of cameras around our streets (mainly town centres) and on our roads which makes some people feel safe, and some people feel quite victimised! The rise of the doorbell camera in recent years has led to a lot of people posting bits of video on sites like NextDoor, claiming that some person is acting suspiciously when in fact, they’re just walking down the street or they’ve stopped to tie a shoelace outside someone’s house. Our house was burgled many years ago, and ‘im indoors installed an alarm system and security cameras after that, mainly so that we could see who was outside the front door. One camera points from the front of the house directly across the street so that it covers anyone approaching the house via the front gate, and anyone casually trying the car’s doors to see if they’re open. There’s one at the back of the house in case anyone comes down the side passage, and another one at the front that points towards the area where my car’s parked (and across towards the idiot neighbour’s frontage).
That’s only natural, you have to learn to remind yourself that it’s a “before and after” kind of thing. There were things you couldn’t do before, that you can do after. It’s nothing to feel guilty about, just accepting that it’s a different time now. On a slightly different note, the day my mother died was the first time in almost five years when I switched my phone off at night. For so long, I’d had the phone on and by the bed in case she called in the night. Then, finally, I no longer had to do that. It felt sad, wrong, and liberating all at once.
That doesn’t sound like a good solution at all, I hope they can find some way of fixing it so that you don’t have all that extra work.
Can’t beat a good bowl of soup! Unless it’s with another bowl of soup!
Calypso is gorgeous! But if I was over there, I’d have Coral and Driftwood in a heartbeat
Today has barely begun but is already irksome. Our building’s Facilities team missed the deadline to order the big water bottles for our offices so we’ve got none left now. I’ve asked them if there are any spares we could get hold of, or where we can get hot/cold drinking water from because staff will be asking us and we don’t know.
Yesterday we were notified of a job that we last heard about two months ago - all we got was a link to a page with some templates to look at, and a message that we may have some work to do and more info would follow. Of course, since our team manager’s been off and we’ve been largely unsupported since then, info did not follow until yesterday when our manager’s manager sent a spreadsheet with a kind of polite demand to know why certain tasks had not been completed. Errr…because nobody told us what we needed to do, when we needed to do it, and where to find the guidance docs to complete it.
Now I’m also involved in a message from an ex-colleague asking about setting up assessments because something in that process has changed and we haven’t been told about that either. We’ve kind of worked it out between us, but who knows if we’re doing the right thing or if we’re about to screw up a major system for everyone else? Who cares!
Just got back from watching the rehearsal for my kids’ performance tomorrow. The school has a festival and the students put on a program with dances and music.
SenGirl just turned 17 and SenBoy is now 15. When the hell did they grow up?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and drizzly with a predicted high of 70 with rain until late mornin’ and then mostly cloudy the rest of the day. Fine by me as we have nowhere we want or need to be today. Our usual RDOS inactivities are the plan of the day. Soup and cornbread for sup.
Flyboy Calypso is a cutie! He’s a lucky cat to find a home with y’all.
BooFae for shame! Why didn’t you use your mind readin’ skillz and just know to get that irk done! Have I mentioned lately how much I love bein’ a RDOS?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Yeah - my baby turned 40 a month ago - how is it I have a 40-y/o daughter?? Oh, right… yeah…
Furnace came on for the first time this season - and it was set at 68°, so it’s not like we live in a hothouse. We might see mid-60s today and once laundry is done, I might venture out with Otis. Since I know he handles a mile easily, I expect he can manage the mile anna quarter around the “block” - such as it is. We’ll see how I feel later today.
Otis has an appointment with the groomer for a bath and a beard trim. He is rather stinky - more than Higgs ever was - and he’s a bit too big for us to manage a bath. Our house in FL had a big shower stall and it was easy for me to take a dog in there for a scrub. They could shake off without soaking the whole room and I could towel off the worst of the wet before turning them loose. Unfortunately, our shower here is only about half that size and Otis is bigger than Bernie or Pixel. So Rufflections gets the honor of cleaning him up. Which means I get a couple of dog-free hours later today.
If NOAA is to be believed, we’re in for rain starting tomorrow thru Monday night. We can surely use it. Plus it should keep the nasty soil on the hill damp enough that it’ll be easy to dig out. I got an email from the guy in charge of the landscape project - he said end of this month or first of next month we should be ready to go - so 3-ish weeks? That gives me time to dig out more of the plants I want to transplant, tho I don’t know where I’ll put them in the interim. I need a load of topsoil. I already bought edging to make some new or expanded beds. Maybe next week?
But today is for making dirty clothes clean. Good times!
Currently 33F/1C, which is the overnight low still hanging on at 0730; the 6mph north wind brings it down to 27F/-3C. Predicted high today is 61/16. 70-80 percent rain expected Sunday and Monday, complete with a coastal flood watch. We’re near the coast, but we’re around twelve feet higher than the place behind us so we don’t need to worry.
Plan for the day is RDOS – I don’t think any of us needs to even go outside today. So let the sloth begin!
Sounds good! Our dinner last night was a half a roasted acorn squash each and an ear of corn. Obscenely healthy, other than the butter. Breakfast will be a ham and cheese omelet.
Looks like somebody hacked our credit card again and ordered some sexy women’s clothing. I’ll have to cancel the card today, I guess.
loser lurgy hit hard in philly last night. baseball, football, and hockey; oh my!
swampbear, i’m more a clam chowder person. i have discovered loaded potato soup. i consider that a chowder. my favourite “cream of green pea” was discontinued by campbell years ago. i am still in mourning.
scareyfaerie, i may come across an event or two due to where i live. tonight the concert is down the street. yest. i did see 1 battleship going down the river. our office has a slice of a view of the delaware river.
your video story had me thinking of all the series of procedurals that i watch. scareyfaerie cameo on a true crime episode. ring cameras have gone wild. the condo i live in has banned them from being used in the hallways. one good thing with the security cameras is i will have alibi verification should i need it. no need to question the cats.
on to shred day at the office. i have 6+ boxes of shred!
It’s 52°F and raining lightly. The light rain is expected to continue until around 7:30 or so, with intermittent showers the rest of the day, and a daytime high of 60°F.
@Aspenglow, the food seems to help Buster more than Maisie, but it does help. Unfortunately, we’ll need to go back for the shots soon. The itchies have started again.
Cookie, I’m sorry to read about the card being hacked again.
Boo Fae, what a series of work annoyances! I hope all is settled soon.
Oopsie, what you’re feeling is quite normal. When we flew out to Missouri, not long after Polar had to go, I remember feeling both a sense of relief that we didn’t need to worry about finding boarding and guilt that I was relieved. It was the first time I had been able to travel without worrying about a dog in more than 20 years. I had a Lab (Cap’n) before Polar and Brandi, so it was an ongoing hassle. I also remember feeling guilty that I was happy not to have to pay for meds anymore. There will be lots of firsts and feelings associated with them.
We didn’t leave the house yesterday, but we will probably do so today. My husband is bound and determined to get to the deli and go to lunch.
The body crud continues. It’s pretty annoying how long things hang on now. I’m hoping this all passes without turning into a sinus infection or anything. I don’t want to have to go to the doc.
Calypso is quite the cutie, FlyBoy.
Everyone out here seems to have Ring or equivalent cameras out here. Most of my neighbors have them.
I think we’ll stop at the grocery store after the deli trip. It’s supposed to be cool and rainy this weekend, which is perfect soup weather. I think I’ll make split pea and ham, or maybe navy bean.
Alright, it’s time for more coffee and then a shower. Take care.
Appendages crossed for a new addition to the LA family. Calypso is quite the little cutie!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll get sheveled and take the cookies to the office. I’ll go to the post office sometime today to drop a couple of cards in the mail and pick up some yogurt from Aldi (Joe V’s didn’t have any plain yogurt of any kind yesterday). Thus are my day’s plans.
There was a knock on my door a bit before nine last evening. It was the woman who used to live here whose package was on my door step yesterday. That will save me from having to track her down.
And a late good morning all. Was up about 3:30am to answer the call of nature and it seemed to me I couldn’t get back to sleep very well, but when I finally did get up and look at the clock, it was 8am, so I guess I did get my recommended daily allowance of snooze. Done the Firday shopping and that has all been put away, along with some sammiches to break my fast, so most of the morning duties have been completed. For once there is no soccer practice. Coach called it off because the other team cancelled our game tomorrow (not enough players, the bane of Fall Break) so I am at loose ends for once. Probably a little time at the gym (been spending too much time there) and more work around the house. We’ll see. Weather is nice again, about 68F going to 75F and no rain in the near forecast.
I don’t have any cameras around the house, this is a pretty safe neighborhood, don’t think I’ve seen a cop car on the street but once in all the years I’ve lived here. Have thought about getting an on-board camera for my car, but just been too lazy to do the research and shopping.
That may be the best summation I have heard after habits changed after the death of a loved one. We’ve all felt it, one way or another.
boo fae, sounds like the Facilities folks need better management, and management is not too spiffy either…good luck.
Sensei, everyone else grows up to fast, while we never seem to age…
FCM, hope Otis gets along with the groomer. I have mentioned before I watch the You Tube Channel ‘Girl with the Dogs’ as she does groomings, and the pet’s reactions can run from A to Z.
Herald, Stay Dry and Sloth On!
Cookie, damn, I wonder if you should just pulp that credit account and get another one from another source…that one seems permanently compromised.
rocky, unless you have a time machine or they took the USS New Jersey for a jaunt up the river, I doubt it was a battleship you saw (sorry to be pedantic, but having visited most of the battleships here in the USA, I react to that term). Shred On!
Taters, know what you mean about crud hanging on. I work out, go shopping, coach soccer but that nagging cough in my chest refuses to go away. Enjoy the deli trip.
red, I imagine the cookies will be highly appreciated and will put you in good light with the management/maintenance folks. Glad package got where it was supposed to.
And need to do a few minor things and then check my Firday You Tubes before deciding my course for the afternoon. Take care all.
Hi folks - A bit after noon on a warm but drizzly day. Unlike yesterday, today I was up and out early after a long and refreshing sleep that started at a reasonable time. Since then I’ve killed breakfast and errands. Now should be home until seeking dinner.
Looking forward to GF coming over for the weekend tonight after a long-planned girls-only birthday party for last weekend’s hostess. It’ll be late and she’ll be semi-sauced by then. She’s resolved to stop any me-bashing as soon as it starts. Which might escalate into her leaving the party if they won’t play nice, but I hope they’ll be better than that. Gaaah, do I hate drama.
Flyboy that’s a darn fine kitten you’ve got lined up. Best of all, you don’t need to build a catio; you already have one!
The Navy being the water service, a little rain shouldn’t hurt 'em a bit.
Well said. Same for @Tater’s longer and equally wise comments.
As y’all know, I’m not a pet person. But I went around a larger version of the same bush when my wife died.
I’ve settled on the idea of chapters within the book of life. That chapter, for good or ill, has ended. This one has begun. Of course there are differences, or it’d just be one longer chapter. It’s 100% OK to value the things the new chapter affords that the previous one did not. Yes, it feels odd & mixed and maybe even disrespectful at first. Almost like the song, every bit of life is a mixture of good and bad, happy and sad. Kind of like the old “raisin vs. chocolate chip in a cookie” surprise, once you know to expect that flavor, the next bite is a lot less surprising / off-putting.
I hope you responded to them with exactly that level of candor.
I always feel soooo virtuous when I eat like that. Then wonder why I don’t do it more often; it’s a supremely easy & fulfilling meal. Good on 'ya.
Dayum about the card. It’s always something.
Hooray for that!
~10 years ago I got a gasoline company affiliated card to use for buying all my gas and nothing else. On the theory that gas pumps were the main threat, and by isolating those purchases from everything online or in person, it’d be (almost) no hassle to replace if hacked.
In those 10 years it’s been hacked once and my two primary online / in-person cards have been hacked 5 or 8 times total. Which feels like it’s roughly proportional to the total transaction count on each card. The threat is now everywhere, since it’s more about skilled hackers breaking into corporate or retail systems and copying their CC purchase records en masse for sale or use later than it is folks putting skimmers on gas pumps.
I’m sort of resigned to a hacked CC simply being a roughly annual annoyance of modern living, kinda like doing a tax return or having to renew medical insurance.
Ouch! Best of luck shaking this off soon.
We have a few recent threads on-topic if you become serious.
One learning I had from that is that the cameras are 99% useless at catching any sort of hit and run, such as my own recent parking lot scrape. Or just a scary road rage encounter that never got past words & gestures. There’s just not enough resolution or frame rate or field of view to really identify faces, read license plates driving off, etc.
OTOH, they are excellent for documenting the facts of an accident where all the parties are identified at the scene but someone is playing the “he said she said” lying game with the cops and insurance companies.
So depending on which threat you’re trying to address they may be a wise or wasteful purchase.
