Has any actor won a performance Oscar AFTER receiving a Lifetime Achievement AA?

I went to see Troy tonight (speaking of- I wonder if I’m the only person ever to notice that Brad Pitt is absoluckingfutely gorgeous?) and was wondering this during Priam’s scenes. This is the best role in a big-budget film that Peter O’Toole has had in years and would probably have won him an AA nomination because it’s a movie and he’s Peter O’Toole. It would very probably win him the AA itself as one of those “maybe he wasn’t the best actor in the category but he’s 70, a great actor, and has never had an AA” awards (e.g. Judi Dench, Al Pacino, etc.) were it not for the fact that he won a Lifetime Achievement Oscar last year.

Has any actor/actress ever won a Best Actor/Actress or Best Supporting Actor/Actress Oscar AFTER winning a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, or is the Lifetime Achievement a kiss-of-death award?

Incidentally, Peter is 71 years old but could pass for 90 easily. His haggard face and beautiful eyes look like they’ve already worn out 7 bodies and are negotiating for an 8th.

I believe Paul Newman received a Lifetime Achievement AA the year before he won for The Color of Money.

Henry Fonda also received a Lifetime AA before his Best Actor AA.

Oddly enough, Peter O’Toole initially refused the Lifetime Achievement Oscar when it was offered to him. He said that he was “still in the game” (i.e. still a working actor), and thought he might yet win an Oscar on his own merits. He had to be persuaded that the Lifetime Achievement award wasn’t merely a subtle way of saying, “You’re over the hill and couldn’t possibly win an award at this point, unless we take pity on you and give you this consolation prize.”

Maybe this year, he’ll prove that his first instincts were correct.
