You laugh, but really, look at what he was saying. Essentially everyone who disagreed with The Big Lie was in on it. No matter how Republican they were before they told the truth about the election, afterwards, they were all lying traitors who betrayed Trump, the Republican party, and the nation, without exception.
This whole-hearted rejection of literally everyone who disagrees with him is what it takes to actually believe Trump won the election. Once they’ve gone over the edge of that cliff, there’s no limit to what amount of nonsense they’ll believe.
I almost made a similar reply earlier. The list of people who wanted Trump out gets longer every day. Election officials, the Democrats, the media, judges, lawyers, Mike Pence,… If the conspiracy is big enough it doesn’t need to be a conspiracy. All those people don’t need to scheme to steal the election, they can just vote for Biden.
This was the most mind-boggling part of this entire thing to me and I assume is going to cause the self-destruction of this flavor of the Republican party at some point.
I mean, for fuck’s sake, Governor Kemp basically wrote the book for the Republican party on how to steal an election through suppression, which is how he became governor, but because he wasn’t willing to actually go to jail to give the state to Trump, who couldn’t win even with the suppressed vote count, he became persona non grata.
Hell, his replacement, Secretary of State Raffensperger also did everything in his power to ensure Republicans won. It just wasn’t enough, and he too wasn’t willing to go to jail, so he’s also on the shit list.
When you steal an election for the Republican party and the leader of the Republican party says that your Democratic opponent that you stole it from would probably be a better governor (we all agree, Donny!), it’s not really helpful. Not that I’m complaining.
I don’t know if it is behind a paywall; it came to me as a link in a news summary that I get every morning and that anyone can subscribe to. It is hard to summarize but details the ways many of the officials in the AG’s office (including, surprisingly, Wm. Barr) pushed back on claims of fraud that had been investigated and found empty. There were, of course, others who egged him on–notably a minor official named Jeffrey Clark who seemed to be angling to become AG in the “coming” Trump administration.
Of course, you have to believe in the “lamestream” NY Times to credit this.
That’s because the Senate released a 394 page report detailing the conspiracy to overthrow the government.
The title is
“Subverting Justice - How the Former President and his Allies Pressured DOJ to Overturn the 2020 Election. So, far, it’s a good read, it ties all the news stories on the subject into one narrative.
I voted for the Democratic Presidential candidate for the first time in my life to save my country.
I will confess, though, to a certain amount of pleasure in seeing the whining – and disgust that more people voted for him in 2020 than 2016, just not enough.
Same here. Must be something in the water?
(If there is, I wish I could get my neighbors to drink some!)
To be totally clear, in 2016 I could not bring myself to vote for either candidate. But one week of the 45th presidential administration convinced me I would vote for anyone running against him in the next election.
Really? You had trouble deciding between the narcissist with no qualifications for the presidency and his opponent, who had served in the Senate, was Secretary of State and was well qualified in many other ways?
Yes, it really is a shame the extent to which the relentless Republican campaign to malign Hillary Clinton was successful. She’s a smart, well-qualified woman who would have made a fine president.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is to listen to her. I remember when she said in the late 90s (or thereabouts) that there was an actual orchestrated Republican campaign against her. I thought, “Gee, that sounds a little paranoid.” But she was right.
She warned us about Trump, saying he was a Russian puppet. She was right.
She warned us about “deplorables.” She was right.
Recently, she warned us that our democracy is at stake, and I know she is right on this, too.
Okay, this deserves an answer.
I did not like Hilary Clinton for quite a few reasons, some of them may have been unfair. But I decided the only sane way to be a decent citizen was to vote for her. Voting for Trump was never a serious option for me.
But then the FBI announces they are reopening an investigation and they did it right before the election. I had to believe they took that unprecedented step because they had found something that could not wait until after the election- something that would make every Hilary voter regret it.
I struggled, I waffled, I suffered! I could only consider Trump for a moment before I wanted to vomit AND kill myself. Definite NO on Trump. I could resolve to vote for Clinton for a full day, maybe even two once, but then more news coverage of what the FBI knew and why they took the extraordinary step so close to the election and I would waver. Right up until I had the ballot and pen in hand I struggled to know what was the right thing to do. After filling out the rest of the ballot I went back to the top and stared for a few minutes. At that moment I could not vote for either candidate and left it blank-- it physically hurt to do so.
I started to regret it as election coverage commenced. The next day I was shocked, by the inauguration I was feeling ill again. There was still a sliver of hope the job or the party would inspire him-- or even that a shadowy figure in the background would start to call the shots.
I made an error but I made it for sincere and moral reasons. I still hoped Clinton would win (it was supposed to be a lock!), but I didn’t want to contribute to her win in case she was indicted and convicted within two months of being inaugurated. The one small bright point was how highly motivated I was to vote for Biden! I have swung all the way to the other side of the spectrum now.
To be fair you certainly weren’t alone in that. As others have pointed out, there was a decades long smear campaign against Hilary, and even if you were sympathetic to her, you couldn’t help but absorb some of the messaging. So, like others, you were primed to be suspect of her.
