Has anyone tried Guiness Blonde American lager?

I’ve been seeing it around and almost bought some but it’s a little more expensive than my usual beers so I thought I’d ask for opinions here first.
I’m a lager kind of guy and didn’t care for regular Guiness.

It’s not bad. I don’t know why they are bothering - they already brew one of the best lagers around.

Eh. It’s no Olympia.

Thanks for the links. Have you tried it? If so, what’s your rating?

Which one is that? Regular Guinness is a stout, right?

Nope, never even heard of it.

Just as a reference my current favorite is Dos Equis in the green bottle. Also very fond of Yuengling.

I am pretty sure he means Harp.

Ooh! I did the thing!

It did not taste like Guinness. It tasted like a decent, unexciting, stereotypical American lager. I was a bit saddened, actually. I mean, logically, it shouldn’t taste like guinness if it’s a lager, but I guess I felt it should have something? I dunno.

Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t taste bad, just tasted like normal boring beer. I don’t prefer lagers anyway (feel like they’re usually bland) but hoped this would be a standout example.

Stick with Yuengling unless you just want to say you tried it.

I haven’t had it, but I can pretty much guarantee it’s unimpressive based on pedigree. It’s an America-only beer being sold under an exclusively import label. That tells me this is a product invented in a marketing department. I assume it’s being made-to-order by a domestic brewer just to try and sell American beer with the Guiness name.

There’s nothing “Guiness-y” about it. A few years ago, they launched Guiness Black Lager, which was at least a clever idea to make a light-drinking beer that looked kinda like Guiness. It wasn’t particularly good, though.

In my view, lousy lager is lousy, but the difference between decent lager and great lager isn’t all that huge. It takes a really impressive product to get me to pay premium beer prices for lager.

Can’t buy Yuengling in my state yet. Nearest Ying is about a half hour each way.

Back when I was young Coors and then Olympia were a big deal because they were not available here. Once they were widely available nobody liked them.

Honestly though, I do think Yuengling is a very enjoyable beer by my criteria:

  1. Must taste good.
  2. Must not produce a massive hangover if imbibed in large quantities.

I’ve tried one. It’s not a style I’m overly fond of, but it was better than I expected. I had pretty bad expectations, though. It’s definitely better than a Budweiser or any of the other macro brews. I’d say the ratebeer and beeradvocate rankings are accurate.

Thanks for the replies! I’m going to try it this weekend.
