Has anyone used CBD on their dog?

I’ll take a look. If we still have some I might try it again.

I hope your doggo’s test results were encouraging.

Lymphoma in the stomach as well as some intestinal issues. I managed to get his chemo pills into him today which made me happy. He’s also getting prednisone for the intestinal issues.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

CBD does not stimulate appetite. It is an appetite depressant.

I only have the brief Wikipedia cite because I wanted to post this ASAP. Plenty of corroberating info out there.

From Wikipedia:

Cannabis in general is an appetite stimulant but I think that is mostly because of the THC. Products that have CBD in them generally have very low amounts of THC so as to not be psychoactive.

CBD = appetite suppressant

THC = appetite stimulant
Talk to an experienced pot dispensary to find out about products that are good at stimulating appetite but don’t “stone” too much. There are a lot of hybrids, blends, and formulations out there. Don’t be discouraged :slight_smile:

I’m so sorry your dog is sick :frowning: My dogs always make a bee-line for the cat’s food. Maybe try some cat food?

I find it interesting so many dopers believe in woo. Is this no longer the Straight Dope? :confused:

I posted the question because I was interested in the “straight dope”, and I suppose that if I received some positive anecdotal evidence I’d give CBD a try because it couldn’t hurt. I’m willing to risk $30 to possible help my pal. Would I use CBD in lieu of actual medicine? Nope, not a chance.

And for I Love Me, an experienced pot dispensary is not available in my state.

And I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, but that’s a different discussion.

I’ve heard of people using THC-infused peanut butter to increase hunger although they were presumably more careful than with CBD.

Change “pot dispensary” to “veterinarian” in the above.

This. For God’s sake - I suppose I can see treating yourself, but tormenting a dying dog with worthless crap is something else.

If he’s suffering and real medicine can’t help, then put him down.

IMHO.

Shodan

I suppose not everybody has your automatic divine knowledge of everything in this world, and has to ask whether something is or isn’t “worthless crap” before having your superior knowledge of all things.

No need to be harsh to Shodan; It takes Daniel-Day-Lewis dedication to affect the persona of one’s username for 18 years.

So you ask the stoner at the pot dispensary?

No wonder it’s taking longer than we thought.

Shodan

Well, that’s my point, though I wouldn’t put it as strenuously as you do. I think it’s undeniable that THC and CBD do SOMETHING, but how confident can one be about dosage–especially for pets–when there’s no research on the subject? Or if there is, I’d like to know about it.

THC/CBT have been reported by cancer patients as being helpful for years. Of course they do not replace chemo or other ‘western medicine’, but they have been reported by people to increase appetite, decrease nausea etc.

I applaud the OP for looking for ways to help his dog & the decision of if/when to put his dog down is his alone.

Today for breakfast he had rice cooked with chicken broth, a scrambled egg, and some pulled pork mixed in. He liked it. Don’t know yet what I’m fixing him for dinner.

I think you misunderstood. The OP was talking about using something to alleviate some of the side effects of the actual, medical, veterinarian-prescribed MEDICINE. See the difference?

Yes, the asking about CBD experiences was to possibly alleviate symptoms rather than effect a cure.

OP asked FORUM MEMBERS. I don’t know what CBD is. We don’t have pot dispensaries. OP asked for information, what on earth is your problem with THAT? If you think what he/she is asking about is ineffective nonsense, then say that. Criticising people for “believing in woo” presupposes that they KNOW that it is woo. YOU know everything (or think you do), but other people might need to ask for information.

Hey, I wasn’t handing out woo,I was trying to prevent it. The OP asks about using CBD products to stimulate appetite in a dog. I came into this thread only to point out that it’s the marijuana without CDB that increases appetite. CBD dominant cannabis will likely act as an appetite depressant.

If ones dog is sick they should talk to a veterinarian about treatment. If one wants to know about pot and the munchies (or lack thereof) it makes sense to talk to a budtender. Non legal pot states don’t have such people, just dealers. They aren’t going to have access to CBD or other medical-grade products.

In California where I live cannabis might be considered an acceptable medicine to stimulate appetite in dogs. I don’t know–I don’t have a dog. But it can be used as medicine, you know. that’s not just some lame cover story invented by potheads.

Using it to deal with appetite was probably one of the first accepted uses of cannabis as medicine (along with treating glaucoma).

Which part was the woo? That THC stimulates appetite?
