Has Doctor Demento changed, or have I?

So, last night was the first time in quite a few years that I listened to the Doctor Demento radio program. I found it… Well, profoundly unfunny. Enough so that I turned it off before the countdown.

I remember as a younger man, perhaps a decade ago, eagerly awaiting Sunday nights to ‘wind up [my] radio’ and listen in to the ‘mad music and crazy commedy’, and I really, really enjoyed it. Last night, the Doc seemed a lot more reserved (yeah, I know he’s older) and the music just seemed like a mishmash of old records; more a media archive than trying to play things that are humorous / entertaining.

I remember hearing that the show format changed after 9/11, but I don’t have confirmation of this. Has it taken a nose-dive whilst I was away? Or was it just an off-night for the good doctor? Or have my tastes just changed that much?

Not sure. I haven’t listened to Dr. Demento in at least a decade, probably 15 years. Hell, I used to get up at 5AM on Sunday mornings in college to listen to the show when it was on the local radio station! But I haven’t had a local station that airs it in at least that long and I just apparently don’t have…something…that would let me listen to internet radio (not something technological, something mental).
