I guess you’re right, Marley. Obama’s just another shallow pol who is only concerned with leveraging the situation.
It never crossed his mind that of the millions who upon hearing Hillary’s “inartful” comment, there are a couple of hundred nut jobs who looked in the mirror and said something like, “Say hello to the next Lee Harvey Oswald!!!”
Yours is a suave reading. And of course it’s correct.
This year, I agree that it is too late. But if, Og forbid, Obama would lose for some reason, who would support her in another try after her performance this year?
Her stubbornness and refusal to face the facts seems very Bush-like to me. If she does get the nomination  I’m voting Monarchist Labor.
That’s not what I’m saying. I’d be ticked off if somebody even hypothetically, tangentially suggested my death that way, and I’m sure he is, too. It’s yet another ill-considered statement on her part as she sinks deeper into “You can’t make me quit” mode.
But on the balance, these words don’t affect the campaign. And I am convinced there is a lot of behind-the-scenes wrangling going on here, and she’s just shot herself in the foot. She’ll probably have to spend a few days apologizing and defending herself instead of trying to make the case that she should be on the ticket.
I really don’t think there are that many people in Hillary’s base who hate Obama so much they’ll shoot him if they get the chance. (Who is less likely to kill a Presidential candidate than old women? :p) There are psychos out there, but they aren’t taking their cues from Hillary.
Hopefully she’s expended enough of the vaunted “Clinton Captial” at this point that she can be drummed out of national level politics for good. I never cared that she transplanted herself to a state to take an office before, but after watching her performance during this campaign she’s clearly unstable enough that she doesn’t deserve to hold office at anything higher than say the HOA level. IMHO, she was promised this run in return for her cooperation during Bill’s “troubles” and she’s going to feel like that her debt isn’t repaid and she’s going to do something less than smart at a future point because of it. Unstable people don’t take much pushing.
I’ll give her the same benefit of the doubt that she gave John Kerry about his “stuck in Iraq” botched joke or that she gave Obama about his “bitter” comment. She jumped on both for cheap political game. What goes around comes around, bitch.
Well yes, there is that then isn’t there? That this much time has passed and Obama hasn’t done just that only increases my own admiration for the way he’s running his campaign. I’m no Democrat, but at this juncture in our nations history someone like him might be just the thing that we need. If only he could ease off the gun control thing.
I wouldn’t worry about it. The NRA has enough legislators in its pockets to stop any meaningful new laws. Unless there is a slew of, say, presidential assassination attempts*.
*Please note, you diligent Homeland Security and Secret Service agents, this is not in any way an endoresment of the concept.
As a member of the NRA, I can already appreciate that, however some of his past statements and his support of re-instating the expired and foolish Assault Weapons Ban give me pause. You’re from Wisconsin, you must know guys like me. I’d like to support a dem, but I can’t support candidate who advocates a gun ban.
Wow, I don’t really think she did that intentionally, or at least didn’t realize it would be taken that way, but yowza! While I agree that this isn’t the biggest deal in the world (albeit a bit creepy), it has come at that time of a campaign where any bad little thing could be seen as the final straw for the about-to-lose-anyway candidate. I’m sure the viral video crowd’s gonna have a field day with this one.
Not only is she committing political suicide, she’s a political suicide bomber.
ETA:
About the gun ban…
Your choice, man. Is it that important to you? Would you not agree that we’d be better off with Al Gore and slightly restricted weapons than we are with Bush? Think about that and a lot of other things before you cast your vote based on your pet issue. Guns are here to stay, don’t worry.
To amend this I would say, Would you not agree that we’d be better off with Al Gore and slightly more restrictive weapons rhetoric than we are with Bush?
She’s not getting the benefit of the doubt from me on this one because 1) this isn’t the first time she or her surrogates have said something similar, 2) there’s no reason to reach back to 1968 if her only point is that primaries can go until summer, and 3) there’s no reason to even talk about RFK being assasinated. She could have just as easily said “look, RFK was still competing in June.” What does him being killed have to do with anything?
Obama has been likened to Kennedy repeatedly. It’s no secret that folks are worried about an Obama assassination. Clinton is a smart ambitious politician who knows the power of words.
Sorry, can’t buy that this was an innocent gaffe. It has calculation written on over it.
It is a lesson in* karma*, when it starts to stink due to your own abuse of it, people begin to read your vibes with less generosity. I don’t see how, by any stretch of my fertile imagination, that HRC is talking about anything but how long a campaign can go on, the subjects, the verbs, they all point straight to it.
But she has pulled some other nasty stuff, so she catches the ass bite of karma, the coming around of what went around. Chomp!!
With the irony sauce that, in this instance, I’m convinced she’s pretty much not guilty.
Hell, she wouldn’t shop that shit around herself, in person! She’s got people for that.
Sorry but she has it coming. This is so unforgivable a transgression that she deserves none of the mannerly treatment of good society. The only positive is that this hopefully buries her chance to muscle her way onto the ticket and perhaps will force the supers to break the other way. This is beyond pathetic.
Great special comment by Keith Olberman tonight. Catch it if you can.
