Has the quality of college students changed?

I just think that there’s more kids in college these days. My theory is that there is always some consistent percentage of people who are smart and hardworking (let’s say %5 for arguments sake). Doesn’t matter if they go to college or not, they will always stand out as the brightest and most motivated in the group. Those people will aways stand out.

There will be some percentage of total retards (say %10) who will be fuckups no matter what advantages in life they have.

The remaining %85 will be varying degrees of “unremarkable”. They will just get by their entire lives, advanding until they reach their level of incompetence. They may graduate high school, go to whatever college their inflated grades and parents income level will allow and take average 9-5 jobs doing mundane stuff.

30 years ago, you didn’t need a degree to work at most regular jobs. Now you do. People aren’t going to get smarter so we just make it easier for them to get the qualifications they need to do the work that needs to be done.

What msmith537 said. As sad as it is, I don’t think people are getting stupider, but more people are going to college, and that brings the average down. Some schools even lower their expectations, which of course affects the overall student quality, even the smarter (i.e harder working) ones. Of course some of the harder working ones already have a grasp of grammar and syntax, so they are not at a loss. It is the average graduate that suffers not the top 5%.

Anytime expectations are lowered, God kills a kitten.

Shows you how many kittens in this world there are, no?
