Has this many people ever wished for one person to die?

Tens of thousands of USA citizens die every year through a lack of affordable healthcare. This has been going on for decades. Administrations of both stripes have failed to do anything meaningful about it whether by incompetency or obstruction or inaction.

Scene… there has been a shipwreck and 3 people have survived. 2 of them are in a lifeboat, and 1 is still in the water. The two on the boat are arguing and fighting rather than saving the third victim, who drowns. Do the two people in the boat share the blame of the third person dying?

Does your answer change if you learn that one person was trying to throw a rope out to save the third person, and the other was fighting to prevent him from doing so?

You need to bring the analogy a little closer in:

There’s someone in the water. They’re going to drown.

It’s a dark night. It’s raining. Why should I believe you? I can’t see or hear anyone.

I can hear them, right over there.

That is just the wind and the waves.

Give me that rope so I can toss them a line.

You just want to get credit for saving their life.

Give me the damn rope.

There is no room for them in the lifeboat. We’ll sink. Or capsize getting them in.

In all cases the people acting against the best interests of those in need are the ones who are to blame. As would be the case where people in the boat didn’t do all they could to ensure the drowning people were saved.

Well, what if the person in the water was Hitler just before he came to power and the one fighting to prevent the rope being thrown knew what was to come, but the other guy in the boat didn’t.

There is no real point because we can go on and on and on with this.

Is it really morally superior to show mercy and sympathy to someone who deliberately and with malice, hurts & kills children. Who will continue to do so, and likely much worse, if he lives and remains in power. I would cheer at his death because it may/may not make the world a better place, but it will bring an end to the current suffering in his detention camps. I’m morally inferior, but very practical.

I don’t wish for him to die. I think his death would be greatly beneficial to this country because he is a malignant cancer upon our great experiment. So, in a sense, I hope for it. I fear the malignancy has spread, so removing the original tumor might not save us entirely.
